Background / History
Life in Nuoding City
Su Yuntao grows up in Nuoding City as the son of Su Haichao, the local Spirit Hall master, and becomes the older brother of Haichao’s adopted son, Tang Shan. He previously attended Notting Academy. Before Tang Shan’s influence, he expected his future to remain local: inheriting his father’s position if fortunate, or becoming an ordinary Spirit Hall deacon 3 22 24 39.
Tang Shan makes physical conditioning central to Yuntao’s cultivation. After a year of training, Yuntao accompanies his father into the Soul Hunting Forest and obtains his first ring from a Gray-Furred Wolf. When the same beast yields a rare Soul Bone, he declines to absorb it and offers it to Tang Shan, whose future Martial Soul and cultivation prospects are still uncertain 2 3 4 5.
For the following years, Yuntao trains publicly as a test subject for the anonymous Grandmaster’s theories about physical fitness and Soul Ring limits. Su Haichao also teaches him the awakening procedure in preparation for Spirit Hall duties. Yuntao’s first practical attempt awakens Tang Shan’s Martial Soul; he later conducts awakenings in villages under Nuoding City’s jurisdiction, including Holy Soul Village 10 12 29.
Second Ring and the Soul Arenas
At eighteen, Yuntao tells Tang Shan that he wants to compete in the Great Soul Arena and see the continent. Tang Shan supports the decision but urges him to discuss it with Sisi. After obtaining his thousand-year second ring, Yuntao leaves Nuoding City with his family and begins confronting the uncertainty of Sisi’s commitment to him 24 29.
In Star City, he fights under the name Lone Wolf. His unusual second ring becomes a public demonstration of the Grandmaster’s theories, while his victories and one-against-two matches build a following in fewer than ten days. Ning Fengzhi investigates him but dismisses his long-term importance because of his Level 3 Innate Soul Power, rejecting Gu Rong’s suggestion to eliminate him 32 39 44.
Arena combat leads Yuntao to discover Martial Soul Fusion and develop a cultivation method suited to his wolf bloodline. His final Star City match pits him against Feng Lang, a Soul Elder whose Wind Blades and Wind Trap repeatedly frustrate his attacks. Yuntao wins by creating a ranged claw strike, then enters Deep Meditation 39 40 43 44 45.
Ironwall City and Departure
On the road, Yuntao participates in his family’s coordinated attack against an Evil Soul Master, following Tang Shan’s close-range assault with his self-created skill before Su Haichao delivers the finishing attack. In Ironwall City, he resumes arena fighting, refuses an invitation to join the army, and enters Xue Qinghe’s service alongside Tang Shan 49 53 56 64.
His fighting spirit attracts Chen Zhan, who offers to teach him the Killing Dao. Yuntao initially wants to know the man better before deciding, but subsequently becomes his disciple and undergoes a demanding daily training regimen. Xue Qinghe also helps secure his Spirit Hall Travel Pass after Salas initially rejects the request because of the brothers’ service to the prince 78 82 91.
Yuntao leaves Heaven Dou City to travel independently, promising Tang Shan monthly letters through Spirit Hall. Three years later, he returns to Nuoding City as a twenty-one-year-old Soul Elder. Remembering his father and brother, he decides to pause his travels and first visits the local Spirit Hall to find Ma Xiunuo 91 151.
Appearance
After absorbing his first ring, Yuntao becomes tall and muscular enough to resemble a sturdy eighteen-year-old, although his face retains its boyishness. He has handsome features and wears leather armor. By twenty-one, his expression and bearing reflect the experience of years spent traveling and fighting 5 151.
- Lone Wolf Possession: dark-green pupils, sharp claws on all ten fingers, swollen muscles, and thick fur 12 65.
- Martial Soul Fusion: a forward-leaning posture, dim green eyes, and an unsettling predator-like presence; outwardly, the change is less dramatic than its combat effects 41.
Personality
Yuntao is protective and generous toward his family. He gives up a Soul Bone despite wanting it, instinctively shields Tang Shan when an urgent messenger arrives, and catches his distracted younger brother before he collides with a carriage. Their affection regularly takes the form of teasing, sparring, and mock complaints about Tang Shan acting like the older sibling 5 10 17 30.
He is exceptionally receptive to advice, but increasingly wants to choose his own direction. His dedication to cultivation becomes so intense that he complains about Sisi interrupting his training. Following their separation, he treats every missed arena match as lost combat experience, yet distinguishes his enjoyment of fighting from warfare and refuses military recruitment 11 24 43 53 56.
Three years of dangerous battles and contact with ordinary people leave him quieter, more reserved, and more composed. He retains affection for his family and his former home rather than treating independence as a reason to sever those ties 151.
Abilities & Skills
Lone Wolf Martial Soul
Yuntao’s Beast Martial Soul grants wolf-like physical traits and gradually influences his movement and instincts 12 21.
- Sharp claws support close-range attacks; during the Bloodthirsty Wolf hunt, he wounds the beast’s flank while Tang Shan attacks from the front 28.
- Observing wolf- and dog-type Soul Beasts rapidly improves his claw technique 21.
- Its influence makes Tang Shan’s human-oriented Human Fist difficult for him to learn. Yuntao instead proposes developing a method based on wolf behavior 21.
Rampage
His first Soul Skill is an enhancement ability, later identified as Rampage 40 65.
- Strengthens his possessed form and helps him maintain speed during travel 22 24 65.
- Provides no independent burst attack; relying on two enhancement skills initially leaves him especially vulnerable to control-type opponents 33.
Bloodthirst
His second Soul Skill raises every attribute by ten percent and grants absolute calm 40.
- Allows him to almost completely ignore pain, think faster, and identify responses to enemy attacks more clearly 40.
- Keeps him composed under Feng Lang’s prolonged pressure rather than attacking recklessly 45.
- Can suppress a reflexive response, such as closing his eyes when something approaches them 40.
Martial Soul Fusion
Also described as an unconventional Martial Soul Avatar or incomplete Beast Soul True Body, this state combines Yuntao’s human judgment with the Lone Wolf’s instincts and inherited combat experience 40 41.
- Enables instinctive evasion while his main consciousness concentrates on tactical decisions 41.
- Produces smooth Soul Power circulation better suited to him than Spirit Hall’s meditation method 41.
- Rapidly consumes stamina, Soul Power, and mental strength 41.
- Initially requires pressure to enter; repeated practice makes access easier, and he later masters the state 41 44.
- Is not a conventional seventh-ring Martial Soul Avatar, despite Tang Shan’s comparison between their underlying functions 40 41.
Bloodline-Derived Cultivation
Yuntao adapts the Soul Power route revealed by Martial Soul Fusion for ordinary cultivation 43.
- Improves cultivation speed and compresses Soul Power into a denser form 43.
- Reaches complete mastery during Deep Meditation after his victory over Feng Lang 46.
- Tang Shan speculates that the compression might relate to forming a Soul Core; Yuntao does not demonstrably form one in the supplied chapters 43.
Self-Created Wolf-Claw Strike
Inspired by Su Haichao’s Claw Shadow, Yuntao concentrates Soul Power in his left arm and releases a large spectral wolf claw 45 46.
- Strikes at range and knocks Feng Lang from the arena platform 45.
- Su Haichao judges the tested attack stronger than his own second Soul Skill 46.
- Its first use consumes Yuntao’s remaining Soul Power completely 45.
- Provides the ranged attack needed for his family’s coordinated Evil Soul Master battle 49.
Internal Martial Arts
Yuntao develops bodily control through Tang Shan’s exercise regimen, horse stance, Standing Stake, and repeated sparring 9 10 15 20 49.
- Uses Bright Force offensively and defensively during training matches 49.
- Practices wolf-like movement under Martial Soul Possession to refine his offense and defense 34.
- Approaches completion of his internal martial arts training during his three-year journey 151.
Martial Soul Awakening
Trained by Su Haichao, Yuntao can conduct awakening ceremonies using a hexagram array, six black stones, and infused Soul Power 12.
- Awakens Tang Shan’s Martial Soul on his first practical attempt 12.
- Performs village awakenings, including a visit to Holy Soul Village where none of the tested children possess Soul Power 29.
Equipment / Items
- Leather armor — worn after his first-ring breakthrough 5.
- Spirit Hall Travel Pass — secured with Xue Qinghe’s help; permits requests for reasonable assistance from local branches, but grants neither command authority nor substantial institutional power 91.
- Su Haichao’s token — given to him to present at Spirit Hall in Heaven Dou City 82 91.
- Gray-Furred Wolf Soul Bone — offered to him because it came from his first-ring beast; he declines it in favor of Tang Shan 5.
Relationships
- Tang Shan — Adopted younger brother, trainer, and closest cultivation collaborator. Yuntao protects him, trusts his guidance, and promises monthly letters when leaving to travel 5 17 39 91.
- Su Haichao — Father and cultivation guide. Prepares his ring hunts, teaches him awakening duties, and supports his decision to travel independently 3 12 29 82.
- Sisi — Former romantic attachment. Her refusal to travel and noncommittal response about waiting for him lead Yuntao to reconsider the relationship after Tang Shan challenges his interpretation 18 24 29.
- Chen Zhan — Master. Offers instruction in the Killing Dao, then subjects Yuntao to strenuous daily training after he accepts the apprenticeship 78 82 91.
- Xue Qinghe / Qian Renxue — Patron whom Yuntao serves as Xue Qinghe. Helps obtain his Travel Pass and respects his decision to leave; Tang Shan keeps the prince’s true identity from him 64 82 91.
- Ma Xiunuo — Elder whom he affectionately calls “Grandpa.” Yuntao seeks him out upon returning to Nuoding City 151.
- Feng Lang — Soul Elder arena opponent. Their difficult match prompts Yuntao’s self-created claw technique and subsequent Deep Meditation 44 45.
Notable Quotes
“Little brother, I'm only eighteen. I'm still young. Until now, I've spent almost all my time around Nuoding City. I've never traveled far.” 24
“Yes. Better to make a clean break, or I might not be able to go.” 91
Trivia
- “Blind Eye God King” is a metatextual joke, not an attained cultivation rank. Tang Shan introduces it while recalling Su Yuntao’s frequent appearances in fanfiction from his previous life 1.
- Yuntao’s breakthroughs make Tang Shan jokingly question whether his older brother is the real protagonist and Tang Shan merely his “cheat” 45.
- The author states that Yuntao will eventually become a god, but not Asura. This is a future authorial promise, not his confirmed status in the supplied story chapters 78.
