Drive Dumbledore out of Hogwarts?
Even now, looking back on it, Percy thought Fudge had been talking nonsense.
He did want to do his part for the Ministry of Magic, make a name for himself, and climb the ranks, but drive Dumbledore out? Was he supposed to risk his life doing it?
As for the things Fudge had suggested—digging up problems within Hogwarts, finding faults, picking apart details, and looking for loopholes...
He had not come up with a single idea. Even though Fudge had given him the same authority Umbridge had enjoyed at Hogwarts, he still had no idea what to do.
All along, Percy had thought his job would be to make trouble for the professors, preferably forcing one or two of them to leave so the Ministry of Magic could extend its influence into Hogwarts.
The task Fudge had given him went far beyond anything he had imagined.
Yet the thought of the deputy head position Fudge had mentioned still made Percy decide he had to try, no matter what. If he really could complete his mission this year and become the deputy head of a department within a year or two, then, as a deputy head barely into his twenties...
Percy could almost see himself becoming the youngest department head, brimming with confidence and ambition.
He would prove everything to his father—he was right!
