Background and History

Harry joins Gryffindor's Quidditch team after a flying-class chase involving Draco Malfoy and Neville's Remembrall 14. During his first year, he becomes fixated on the Mirror of Erised. He and Ron also suspect Snape of pursuing the Philosopher's Stone, despite Dumbledore's assurance that Snape can be trusted 49.

Will Behrens later gives Harry a pair of glasses containing Mr. Strange, a demanding tutor whose persona was created with Dumbledore and the Sorting Hat. Strange helps Harry with Potions and spell practice, while Dumbledore asks Harry to keep the glasses secret 131. During a staged basilisk attack arranged by Will and Dumbledore, Harry fights to protect the petrified Draco. His spells cannot overcome the creature's resistant scales, and he is eventually disarmed 137 148. The wider wizarding world is told Harry has died, but Dumbledore hides him in a safe house and begins intensive personal training 153 154 155.

Harry later becomes one of Hogwarts' Triwizard champions 354. After Voldemort's return, Will deliberately distances himself from Harry to reduce the risk of information reaching Voldemort through their connection.
