At Karnak Temple, a sharp whoosh cut through the air as three centenarians suddenly appeared. Yet the tourists nearby neither gasped nor shouted at their arrival. Even those walking right past them unconsciously averted their eyes and turned their attention elsewhere.
"The Muggles can't notice us!" Grindelwald said. He pointed in a certain direction. "There. That's our destination."
Dumbledore and Newt looked where he pointed and saw a towering Obelisk standing tall and straight, especially solemn in the gathering dusk.
"Are you sure this is the place?" Newt asked doubtfully after circling the Obelisk. Did the people at the local Ministry of Magic have slugs for brains? How had they missed the entrance to a sealed protective enchantment in such an obvious place?
Grindelwald ignored Newt and moved purposefully around the Obelisk, tapping several mud bricks on its four sides more than a dozen times with his wand.
With Grindelwald's final tap on the mud brick before him, the material of the side of the Obelisk facing them abruptly changed. Its once-rough surface became perfectly smooth, reflecting their figures as clearly as a mirror.
"This is..." Before Dumbledore could finish, a sudden shift in space and time cut him off. Everything around them seemed to spin, space and time twisting out of alignment. In a daze, the three found themselves in completely unfamiliar surroundings, as though they had crossed the boundaries of space and time.
"Lumos Maxima!"
Grindelwald raised his wand, and the enhanced Lumos produced a light as brilliant as burning magnesium at its tip. With a sweep of his wand, he sent the dazzling orb of light floating into the air, illuminating the entire space.
Dumbledore and Newt narrowed their eyes against the sudden glare. As they slowly adjusted to the light, they peered around at their surroundings.
