Ch. 361The Strongest Returned

Key plot points and events

  • The Formless Demon devastates Luka City after a conflict among its defenders. Chen Feng identifies its limits: it has no intelligence, responds to hostility, and gains new abilities by replacing old ones. He believes it can be calmed through non-hostile influence.
  • Chen Feng discovers Kail Meow apparently dead from smoking. A powerful healing mage resurrects her and creates a new body. Kail immediately resumes smoking, and Chen Feng sends her to spread cigarettes among the Monster’s clones—not because the cigarettes stop it, but because her uncomplicated pursuit of happiness influences it.
  • Survivors resume fighting, driven by grief and hatred, despite the Demon Kings’ efforts to call a truce. The Monster continues wrecking the city until its contract expires and it returns to its own universe.
  • Chen Feng receives enormous rewards, reaches level 3,000, and realizes the system has likely skimmed much of the Divine Power spent by his employer. He also learns that the Proficiency System is repairing Hextech, contingent on defeating the King of the Undead.
  • The Spider Queen, Nightmare Queen, and Slime Queen regret the destruction. Chen Feng offers them a chance to help save Luka City if they assist him in defeating the King of the Undead.
  • Chen Feng explains time reversal to Xia Mei and takes the Staff Hero’s Philosopher’s Stone, whose save point reaches back to the previous day. He plans to use it to undo the catastrophe, while keeping the demons’ separate respawn realms and Small Worlds in mind.
  • Before reversing time, Chen Feng tries to seize the Dark Elf’s World Items and extract information about the Great Tomb. The Dark Elf instead sacrifices herself and the items to summon Serpent King Butis, a colossal demon god. Since the summon exists outside the earlier events, Chen Feng concludes time reversal cannot remove it; he prepares to fight.
  • The chapter ends with the Demon Sword awakening in the castle and joyfully announcing that its master is awake.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shows sharp tactical reasoning, mixing careful planning with irreverent humor. He recognizes that the Monster responds to emotional intent, negotiates with the three Demon Queens, and remains focused on the King of the Undead and the Great Tomb. His confidence is tested by the Dark Elf’s unexpected sacrifice and Butis’s arrival.
  • Xia Mei remains compassionate and eager to help: she tries to sacrifice herself to save Kail Meow, then insists Kail quit smoking. Chen Feng begins teaching her how time reversal works.
  • Kail Meow returns to life but immediately resumes her smoking and hissing habits. Her desire to enjoy herself becomes an unlikely means of calming the Monster.
  • The Staff Hero reveals possession of the Philosopher’s Stone and lends it to Chen Feng for its valuable save point.
  • The Dark Elf remains fanatically loyal to the Lord of the Undead. Rather than be captured or betray the Great Tomb, she disappears in a summoning sacrifice.
  • The surviving adventurers and Demon Kings illustrate the gulf between the desire for peace and the hatred left by mass destruction: the Demon Kings call for a truce, but the survivors refuse to forgive or trust them.

Significant themes

  • Hatred perpetuates violence: Even when the Monster’s behavior can be influenced, grief and vengeance reignite conflict and prolong the devastation.
  • Peace through empathy and goodwill: The Monster responds less to force than to non-hostile intent, embodied comically by Kail Meow’s pursuit of happiness.
  • Time reversal has limits: It can restore events within a defined world, but cannot necessarily undo what exists outside that world or preserve memories across a reset.
  • Loyalty and sacrifice: The Dark Elf’s devotion to the Great Tomb drives her final act, while Chen Feng’s alliances depend on bargaining and shared goals.
  • Comedy amid catastrophe: The chapter balances mass destruction and moral tragedy with absurd resurrection, smoking jokes, and Chen Feng’s complaints about reward-system corruption.

Ch. 362You're so loud

Plot points and events

  • The Sun Law weakens anything entering the Land of Fire, but summoned demon god Butis remains enormous and overwhelmingly powerful. The Dark Elf Peloro has called him forth to stop the heroes from using the Philosopher’s Stone to reverse the damage to Luka City.
  • Chen Feng and Gle attack Butis. The Staff Hero weakens his defenses, while Chen uses Love God’s Fourfold Slash, empowered by the love and abilities of Gle, She Qingqing, and Kail Meow. Their combined assault wounds Butis, but he immediately kills them; both revive.
  • Sword Saint Jiahao arrives and, after boasting and arguing with Chen, kills Butis with a casual sword strike prompted by the demon god’s deafening roar. His victory is later retold in a hugely exaggerated story to children.
  • The Staff Hero uses the Philosopher’s Stone to rewind Luka City to before the festival. Chen explains that he also had the Hero of the Arts’s memories erased and made her believe she was good, so she could spend her life making amends. The Monster girls’ injuries and traumatic memories are healed.
  • Chen and Gle conclude that peaceful coexistence between humans and Monsters is becoming more achievable: unlike centuries earlier, Peloro needed elaborate manipulation to provoke a conflict.
  • Chen plans to confront the King of the Undead with a much larger group than expected. Sword Saint initially refuses, but agrees when Chen offers a custom device from the Slime Queen. After a comically misunderstood massage invitation, Chen receives an unexpected gift addressed to him—and becomes alarmed.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen is resourceful and increasingly influential, but remains wary of his growing success and the mysterious gift. His banter with Gle shows their familiar, teasing relationship; he privately conceals that he has been stealing her blessing.
  • Gle contributes her Abyssal power to Chen’s attack and shows confidence in their revival, while the pair bicker over their strength and plans.
  • Kail Meow’s love unexpectedly provides the greatest boost to Chen’s technique, underscoring that affection—not status or power—can have remarkable force.
  • Sword Saint Jiahao is presented as absurdly foul-mouthed, boastful, and eccentric, yet powerful enough to kill Butis effortlessly. He joins the campaign for a comically shallow reason.
  • Chen’s decision to give the Hero of the Arts a chance to atone reflects his preference for rehabilitation over simple punishment.

Significant themes

  • Love can transcend strength and status: Kail Meow’s contribution vastly exceeds expectations and transforms Chen’s attack.
  • Peace requires persistence and education: The children’s retelling of history reflects how shared stories can support human–Monster coexistence.
  • Redemption and healing: The Hero of the Arts is given a path to make amends, while victims receive care for both physical and emotional wounds.
  • Heroism and absurdity: The chapter repeatedly contrasts world-shaking stakes with silly dialogue, exaggerated legends, and mundane motivations.

Ch. 363Fool Knight's Javelin

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng uses Spatial Teleportation to leave Luka City with Gle and Xia Mei before opening the mysterious gift. Appraisal calls it safe, but reveals a helmet, a Mechanical Shard, the Sun King’s Wine Flask, and the Purple Yew Necklace.
  • The gift’s sender appears at the Sword Saint’s quarters: a polite, well-dressed man whose identity and level Appraisal cannot read. Chen Feng’s attempt to use Time Stop and assess him fails to uncover his details.
  • The stranger reveals that a freckled young woman gave him the necklace—evidence that Xiaomei, Sika’s girlfriend, has been captured. He also exposes the unconscious Sword Saint, whom he incapacitated with a “gift.”
  • Chen Feng deduces the man is Ulbert, Ancestor of Flame Demons, by testing his reaction to comments about rival powers. Ulbert confirms that the Ghost King told him about Chen Feng.
  • Ulbert uses a deck of cards to reveal how badly Chen Feng’s allies have been weakened: the Sword Saint is unconscious, Bravery is missing, the Sun King’s eldest son has been driven mad, and Sika’s grandfather—Rasao, the legendary Necromancer—is dead.
  • Ulbert warns that the Regression Sage, a little girl with Chen Feng, is the only major ally left. He displays the Fool Knight’s Javelin, a one-use weapon that permanently erases anything it touches, and threatens to keep Chen Feng and others alive to make them suffer.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng remains calculating and cautious: he delays attacking until he understands the stranger’s abilities, then identifies him through verbal traps. The news about his allies and the weapon, however, leaves him facing a severe strategic disadvantage.
  • Ulbert emerges as a composed, manipulative enemy who gathers intelligence, exploits hostages, and uses theatrical card tricks to demonstrate how thoroughly he has cornered Chen Feng.
  • Gle and Xia Mei provide brief moments of confusion and humor, but their lightness gives way to alarm as the threat becomes clear.
  • The Sword Saint is revealed to have been taken by surprise and incapacitated.

Significant themes

  • Caution versus deception: Chen Feng’s careful approach helps him avoid the gift’s curse, but Ulbert has anticipated his habits and turned information into a weapon.
  • Power through knowledge: Ulbert’s advantage comes not just from force, but from knowing Chen Feng’s allies, weaknesses, and plans.
  • Vulnerability and loss: The missing, compromised, and dead allies underscore how exposed Chen Feng’s side has become.
  • Irreversible danger: The Fool Knight’s Javelin raises the stakes with the threat of permanent erasure, beyond ordinary resurrection or recovery.

Character interactions

  • Chen Feng moves from joking frustration with Gle and Xia Mei to a guarded confrontation with Ulbert.
  • Xia Mei’s concern for the unconscious Sword Saint highlights the group’s personal bonds and the cost of Ulbert’s attack.
  • Ulbert flatters Chen Feng’s intelligence while threatening him, turning their exchange into a contest of deduction and intimidation.
  • By naming Chen Feng’s allies and threatening the Regression Sage, Ulbert shifts the confrontation from a direct duel to psychological warfare.

Ch. 364Pieces be with you

Key plot points and events

  • The Ancestor of Flame Demons confronts Chen Feng and reveals that he has killed several of Chen’s allies, presenting keepsakes as proof: Goblin Slayer’s helmet, a fragment from a Tower-Climbing Robot, and the Sun King’s Wine Flask.
  • He explains that Goblin Slayer was killed because his anti-goblin Blessing might threaten the demons if Chen used race-transformation magic. The robot, whose attacks grew exponentially stronger, was defeated by sending a time-reversing subordinate back to before it activated.
  • The Ancestor says he has captured Chen’s apprentice Sika, as well as the Legendary Mage Fulameng and the Demigod Saintess. He claims they are held in two locations and forces Chen to choose whom to rescue.
  • Chen recognizes the real scheme: the Ancestor expects him to choose Sika, but has likely switched the captives’ locations. The plan is to make Chen appear to abandon Fulameng and the Saintess, damaging their trust in him.
  • Chen also infers that Cologne Village fell through the intervention of the Immortal Ancient Dragon and the Flesh Ghost King, despite its many retired Heroes, powerful defenders, and traps.
  • While the Ancestor is distracted, Chen secretly takes and upgrades the Fool Knight’s Javelin, ending the confrontation’s immediate standoff on his own terms.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng remains composed despite the threats and hostage dilemma. He carefully weighs the risks, deduces the enemy’s manipulation, and exploits the Ancestor’s long-windedness to steal the javelin.
  • The Ancestor of Flame Demons is revealed as calculating and manipulative, but also overconfident. He expects Chen to panic and fails to account for Chen’s resourcefulness and opportunistic theft.
  • Sika is established as a deeply important apprentice to Chen, making her hostage-taking a powerful source of pressure.
  • Fulameng and the Saintess are shown as valuable allies whose safety and trust are central to the Ancestor’s plan.

Significant themes

  • Trust and betrayal: The Ancestor aims to fracture Chen’s relationships, while the warning “never trust a Cihang Native” reflects the chapter’s atmosphere of deception.
  • Strategy under pressure: Chen cannot act freely because of unknown abilities, a possible hostage, and the risk of touching dangerous equipment; success depends on observation and timing.
  • The danger of complacency: Cologne Village’s impressive defenses prove insufficient against exceptionally powerful, unexpected opponents.

Character interactions

  • The Ancestor taunts and threatens Chen, using the deaths of allies and the captives’ predicament to provoke him.
  • Chen refuses to play the emotional game, exposes the proposed rescue dilemma as a trap, and mocks the Ancestor’s reliance on the Ghost King’s advice.
  • The Ancestor’s confidence collapses when Chen reveals that he has taken the Fool Knight’s Javelin and upgraded it while they were talking.

Ch. 365Netherworld Star Arc: A Grand Serial

Chapter summary

Key events

  • Chen Feng laments that Equipment Amplification spent 16 System Points enhancing the fool knight’s javelin, producing a Dream God’s Divine Spark and a piece of bamboo instead. Equipment Amplification defends the cost by pointing out the Flame Demon Ancestor’s extraordinary luck, though Chen Feng remains furious.
  • While Chen Feng is distracted by the system, the Great Beast ambushes and apparently kills the Flame Demon Ancestor with a distant sniper shot. Chen Feng prepares to attack, testing his powerful Love God’s Fourfold Slash on the Great Beast first to check for reflected damage.
  • The Ancestor reveals that he has Peerless Beauty, a mind-controlling World Item, and uses Sika’s Magic Cylinder trap to reflect Chen Feng’s attack. Chen Feng counters with spacetime powers, redirecting the damage, then traps Sika in the Map of Mountains and Rivers and attacks him with several soul- and body-altering abilities. Sika remains under the Ancestor’s control, however, so Chen Feng withdraws beyond Peerless Beauty’s range.
  • The Ancestor summons another controlled Hero, a low-level young man whose unique Blessing lets him imitate almost any Magic below level 10,000. The Ancestor opens more than a hundred Teleportation Arrays, confirming Chen Feng’s suspicion that the Hundred Hero Legion consists of controlled Heroes with powerful Blessings.
  • Chen Feng retreats with his allies. Gle points out that many of their potential supporters—including Bravery, the Sword Saint, and the Sun King’s Eldest Son—have already been defeated or captured.
  • Chen Feng deduces that the enemy also has a noncombat intelligence-gathering World Item. Since World Items affect only their own universe, he decides to recruit help from another universe to counter the Legion’s Judgment Rank advantages.
  • His Mythic Three Kingdoms system warns that its heroes may be too physically weak for the fight and could die. It directs him instead to the Netherworld Star, whose inhabitants can kill by rules, possess Single-Entity Rank judgment, and are effectively immortal.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shifts from anger over his lost Points to tactical problem-solving. He tests the risks of his attack, identifies the enemy’s abilities, deduces the source of their intelligence, and develops a cross-universe counterstrategy.
  • Equipment Amplification offers a comic, self-defensive explanation for the costly enhancement, blaming the Ancestor’s immense luck and its own guaranteed failure chance.
  • The Flame Demon Ancestor is shown to be a calculating threat: he controls Heroes through Peerless Beauty and deploys a large roster rather than relying on strength alone.
  • Sika is revealed as the user of Magic Cylinder and remains controlled even after Chen Feng captures and attacks him.
  • Gle voices the allies’ fear and frustration over how many powerful defenders have been removed from the conflict.
  • The Great Beast serves as Chen Feng’s test target before Chen Feng risks using his reflected-damage-prone attack.

Significant themes

  • Power and counterpower: The Hundred Hero Legion’s Judgment Rank abilities seem overwhelming, but Chen Feng searches for powers operating under different rules.
  • Information as a weapon: The enemy’s intelligence-gathering item has no direct combat strength, yet it has exposed the heroes’ plans and meeting places.
  • Strategic adaptation: Chen Feng survives by observing, testing, and reasoning rather than meeting every threat head-on.
  • Cross-universe alliances: The chapter ends by expanding the conflict beyond one universe, suggesting that outside allies may bypass local World Item limits.

Ch. 366Chen Feng Had Joined the Ghosts

Key plot points and events

  • A powerful figure from Netherworld Star sends Chen Feng to the Paranormal Multiverse, a school where each classroom is effectively a universe. He arrives with a genuine admission letter and joins a class full of bizarre, immortal beings called wraiths.
  • In Human Behavior class, the teacher asks how many testicles a human man has. When Chen Feng signals the correct answer to Xiao Xiao, the loudspeaker-headed student answers—and is immediately cut in half by the teacher’s chainsaw. Xiao Xiao later reassembles and revives.
  • Chen Feng’s ghost-catching system identifies Xiao Xiao as a Joke Specter whose rule kills anyone who laughs three times within his range. Chen Feng takes the name “Wind Ghost” to conceal that he is human.
  • In Rules Horror Studies, the teacher’s cough instantly kills the class, including Chen Feng. Chen Feng revives with his Life Divinity and learns that wraiths are conceptual beings formed from Death Divinity: they can be incapacitated, but cannot be permanently killed below the Multiversal level.
  • The teacher warns that wraiths must learn to express and use rules as weapons. Chen Feng realizes he will need to master these abilities to survive and keep his humanity secret.
  • At dorm assignment, Xiao Xiao cannot room with Chen Feng because he snores. Chen Feng is instead paired with Xiao Mei, a seemingly ordinary, attractive schoolgirl who asks whether he thinks she is beautiful. Recognizing the question as suspicious, Chen Feng realizes she is Creepy Skin.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng moves from bewildered newcomer to wary strategist. He adapts his identity, studies the wraiths’ powers, and recognizes that his usual strength is limited in this world.
  • Xiao Xiao turns out to be friendly despite his lethal rule. Chen Feng helps him answer the teacher’s question, and the two quickly become companions.
  • The teachers establish the school’s brutal rules: the chainsaw-wielding Human Behavior teacher casually punishes a wrong answer, while the Coughing Ghost can incapacitate students through a simple cough and even threaten Chen Feng’s system.
  • Xiao Mei/Creepy Skin appears charming and humanlike, but her beauty question signals a new potential danger.

Significant themes

  • Survival through understanding: Knowing how rules work is essential, since ordinary physical strength offers little protection.
  • Appearances and identity: Chen Feng must pass as a wraith among monsters, while the human-looking Xiao Mei may be more dangerous than she seems.
  • Death and resilience: Students can be killed or shut down, yet wraiths return because their existence is rooted in indestructible Divinity.
  • Dark comedy amid horror: The school’s bizarre lessons, casual violence, and Chen Feng’s dry reactions contrast with the genuine danger.

Ch. 367I'm doomed! I'm surrounded by female ghosts

Plot points and events

  • Chen Feng recognizes that the beautiful Xiao Mei is likely dangerous, but, lacking information about her killing rules, compliments her appearance.
  • Xiao Mei brings him to her dorm, which is covered in portraits of herself. When Chen Feng declines to see more revealing pictures, a second Xiao Mei bursts through the boarded window, claiming to be the most beautiful. The original attacks her, but the “corpse” splits into two smaller copies that turn on her.
  • Chen Feng discovers that the room is a separate universe hidden by a cognitive filter. It contains countless Xiao Meis fighting and multiplying whenever one dies. One restrains and licks him, but a mysterious giant hand snatches him away just as he is about to be overwhelmed.
  • Chen wakes in the room of Xiangsi—“Xiao Si”—a giant female monster who asks him to tutor her in Human Behavior. Her poor grade hides uneven knowledge: she answers some technical questions impressively but cannot manage basic facts about human bodies. Chen realizes she is especially interested in teenage boys and secretly cheats on one question by inspecting a drowning experiment.
  • Back in her universe, Xiao Mei pieces together that Chen is human, not a monster, and becomes infatuated with him.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng remains cautious and resourceful, using flattery, observation, escape abilities, and even cheating to survive. His confidence repeatedly clashes with how little he understands the monsters’ worlds.
  • Xiao Mei is revealed as a multiplying, deadly entity, but also as someone who has developed a genuine—or at least consuming—interest in Chen.
  • Xiao Si appears intimidating but is nervous and socially awkward. Her tutoring request reveals both her gaps in understanding humans and her fixation on young boys.

Significant themes

  • Appearance versus reality: The cognitive filter disguises the true scale and horror of the monsters and their environments.
  • Knowledge and survival: Chen’s safety depends on gathering clues and interpreting strange rules, while incomplete information makes even ordinary interactions perilous.
  • Monstrous repetition and excess: Xiao Mei’s endless copies turn rivalry over beauty into an unstoppable cycle of violence and multiplication.
  • Humanity as an object of study: Xiao Si’s lessons—and Xiao Mei’s discovery—show how humans are strange and compelling to the monsters.

Character interactions

  • Chen and Xiao Mei begin with mutual compliments, but her invitation to view more photographs quickly becomes a trap. Their encounter ends with Chen rescued by an unknown force.
  • Chen tutors Xiao Si, whose anxious manner and uneven answers shift their relationship from apparent danger to awkward instruction.
  • Xiao Mei’s final realization that Chen is human turns their brief encounter into a looming source of danger and romantic obsession.

Ch. 368The Most Punishing Cultivation System

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng is abruptly returned from the Paranormal Universe to the Land of Fire, where less than a second has passed despite a full day’s pursuit there. The Hundred Heroes Legion repeatedly catches up through teleportation arrays, forcing him to keep fleeing.
  • The Legion includes several Heroes Chen Feng recognizes, but Goblin Slayer is the greatest threat: his multiverse-wide blessing can kill Chen Feng instantly and prevent ordinary resurrection.
  • After a day of chase, Chen Feng blinks back to the Paranormal Universe, where it is morning and time for class.
  • He meets Willow Tree, a specter who offers him a twig that supposedly solves a problem if Chen Feng states his wish and snaps it. The system identifies the twig—and then more of Willow Tree’s hair—as the World Item Wish-Granting Willow. Chen Feng starts plucking it, despite Willow Tree’s protests.
  • In Rules Class, the Coughing Ghost explains that simple killing rules are stronger than complicated ones, then introduces the process of awakening death rules: suppressing the death divinity within oneself.
  • Chen Feng assumes he cannot participate because he has no death divinity. Instead, he invents the Ghost-Binding Art, which lets someone who defeats a specter try to bind it and gain its abilities. Failure means death, and the base success rate is just 1%.
  • The system then raises Chen Feng’s success rate to 100% because of his paranormal talent. He realizes that his Save-Load System may be paranormal in nature and declares himself the “Paranormal Prodigy” chosen by three gods.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng remains opportunistic and irreverent: he flees the Heroes, exploits Willow Tree’s gift once he learns it is a World Item, and complains about the brutal ability he has just invented—only to discover he is exceptionally suited to it.
  • Gle helps knock out Sika, who has been brainwashed into preparing to dig for the Great Tomb. She and Chen Feng speculate about how the Heroes ended up in the flame demon’s hands and joke about the Heavenly Realm’s deployment system.
  • Willow Tree is self-conscious about losing his hair and hopes his height explains why no girls pursue him. Chen Feng’s flattering theory cheers him up, though Chen Feng then pulls out more of his “hair.”
  • The Coughing Ghost teaches the class’s rules-based approach to specters, while the Joke Specter trades jokes with Chen Feng and comments on his treatment of Willow Tree.

Significant themes

  • Rules over raw power: In this world, a specter’s killing rule determines its danger; a simple rule can outweigh impressive abilities.
  • Risk and reward: Chen Feng’s new binding method carries a near-certain death penalty, embodying an exceptionally punishing cultivation system—until his unusual talent overturns the odds.
  • Comedy amid danger: Threats such as instant death and deadly specter rules are undercut by banter, absurd misunderstandings, and Chen Feng’s shameless opportunism.

Ch. 369I'll win

Plot points and events

  • Chen Feng has fifteen hours before returning to the Land of Fire. He needs to defeat and control a ghost to gain a Single-Entity ability, but he is still searching for the right opportunity.
  • Hoping to find opponents, he asks about a class where he can fight classmates and heads to PE. He learns the Joke Specter, Xiao Xiao, is often bullied there.
  • A newly arrived Blood Ghost attacks Chen Feng and Yearning Ghost, but the school’s Sweeping Auntie intervenes because it has dripped blood on her hallway floor. She easily defeats it, then forces it to lick the floor clean. Yearning Ghost explains that this is the Auntie’s killing rule and that she is one of the school’s ten strongest ghosts.
  • In PE, students fight one-on-one under the supervision of a corpse-like teacher. Chen Feng learns that the Elbow-Strike Ghost can knock opponents unconscious with one hit and trigger a killing rule after three.
  • The Elbow-Strike Ghost defeats the Rain Ghost, evading rain that the Rain Ghost created himself. Impressed—and seeing a possible way to incapacitate the Hundred Hero Legion without killing its members—Chen Feng challenges him.
  • When the Elbow-Strike Ghost threatens Xiao Xiao, Chen Feng uses Time Stop and Spatial Teleportation to move him out of harm’s way, then declares that he wants the Elbow-Strike Ghost’s ability.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng is increasingly eager to fight, but his interest is not purely aggressive: he hopes to gain a useful ability and may be able to spare the controlled Heroes by knocking them unconscious rather than killing them. He also protects Xiao Xiao.
  • Xiao Xiao, the Joke Specter, is vulnerable in PE and initially tries to avoid class, but comes anyway—apparently out of concern for Chen Feng. His established history with the Elbow-Strike Ghost helps explain his reluctance.
  • Yearning Ghost acts as Chen Feng’s guide, explaining the dangers posed by newly born ghosts and the school’s rules.
  • The Sweeping Auntie is revealed to be an extraordinarily powerful, rule-bound ghost whose obsession with cleanliness intimidates even the school’s most dangerous residents.
  • The Elbow-Strike Ghost is shown to be a formidable fighter, able to move with astonishing speed and defeat the Rain Ghost. His bullying of Xiao Xiao brings him into direct conflict with Chen Feng.
  • The Rain Ghost initially appears limited by the need for rain, but his weather-control skill lets him create the conditions for his ability; even so, he loses to the Elbow-Strike Ghost’s speed.

Significant themes

  • Power governed by rules: Ghost abilities can be strange or conditional, but understanding their rules can be as important as raw strength.
  • Strength and restraint: Chen Feng wants power, yet considers using a nonlethal ability to save the Heroes rather than kill them.
  • Comic contrast: The school’s cosmic threats are undercut by mundane concerns—especially the Sweeping Auntie’s spotless hallway and students’ fear of PE bullies.
  • Protecting the vulnerable: Chen Feng’s intervention for Xiao Xiao suggests that his desire to fight can coexist with loyalty and concern for others.

Ch. 370Elbow this

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng provokes the Elbow-Strike Specter into a duel, concealing his own abilities while relying on observation and strategy rather than brute force.
  • His opening explosive arrow does no damage, and the Elbow-Strike Specter’s speed gives him the upper hand. Chen Feng uses Levitation and Time Acceleration to evade while waiting for Spatial Teleportation to come off cooldown.
  • Chen Feng’s real plan is to expose the specter’s muddy shoes: he had noticed they were wet after the specter fought the Rain Ghost. He teleports the Elbow-Strike Specter into a corridor, where the cleaning lady attacks anyone who dirties her floor and knocks him unconscious.
  • Chen Feng discovers that he can bind a specter only after defeating it. Although the cleaning lady helped, the binding succeeds, granting him the Elbow-Strike Specter’s abilities and killing rule. Binding drains his vitality, but his Life Divinity balances the loss.
  • The bound specter explains that he bullied Joke Specter because Joke kept trying to make everyone laugh—a dangerous habit, since laughter triggers Joke Specter’s killing rule. Chen Feng moves into the Elbow-Strike Specter’s room.
  • Back in the Land of Fire, Chen Feng and Xia Mei have been struggling against Gle, Goblin Slayer, and the Shapeshifting Hero. The Hero’s sure-hit curse repeatedly forced them to use death and time reversal to undo transformations.
  • Chen Feng counters the curse by invoking the bound Elbow-Strike Ghost’s Super Running, outrunning the attack and defeating both Heroes with a blow.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shows patience, tactical thinking, and confidence in enduring the painful binding process. He also learns the cost and mechanics of his Ghost-Binding Art, then finds a way to offset its vitality drain with his Life Divinity.
  • The Elbow-Strike Specter goes from arrogant challenger to defeated subordinate. Once bound, he reveals that his conflict with Joke Specter arose from Joke’s attempts to make others laugh.
  • Joke Specter remains devoted to his dream of making everyone laugh, despite the lethal danger his rule creates. Chen Feng’s reaction suggests he sees the dream as ill-advised.
  • Xia Mei continues supporting Chen Feng through repeated reversals, but in the final confrontation he assures her she need not intervene.
  • The cleaning lady serves as the decisive outside force in the duel, enforcing her floor-cleaning rule with her slippers.

Significant themes

  • Knowledge and preparation over raw strength: Chen Feng wins by noticing the muddy shoes and exploiting the specter’s vulnerability.
  • Rules as both danger and opportunity: Each specter’s killing rule or weakness shapes the conflict; understanding those rules lets Chen Feng turn paranormal mechanics to his advantage.
  • Power and its costs: The Ghost-Binding Art is formidable but painful and drains vitality, requiring Chen Feng to find a counterbalance.
  • Relative power and “cheating”: Chen Feng’s final victory contrasts universe-granted Blessings with the greater scale of power he has acquired from the Paranormal Universe.

Ch. 371Pride came before a fall.

Plot points and events

  • The Ancestor of Flame Demons, Ulbert, uses the World Item Thousand-Eyed Wind to monitor Chen Feng, identify his allies, and expose his plans. It also shows him a game update describing the new “Weird” monsters and their weaknesses.
  • Ulbert learns that the Elbow-Strike Specter can be disabled by fall damage and uses his legion’s cheat-like systems to keep pursuing Chen Feng and Xia Mei. Chen realizes their enemies’ information advantage makes bringing more Weirds into the fight too dangerous.
  • Back in the Paranormal Universe, Chen finds the Elbow-Strike Specter reconciled with the Joke Specter. He also learns that Xiao Mei has been attending Spatial Studies, though he worries about what she may be planning.
  • Chen asks about the Wish-Granter Specter, whose wishes come with harsh, potentially disastrous costs. To circumvent its twisted wish-granting, he writes an extremely detailed wish demanding the total, irreversible destruction of Ulbert’s World Item, while forbidding collateral damage or harm to himself and his allies. He has the Joke Specter read it aloud.
  • At the Great Tomb, the King of the Undead and Ulbert discuss launching a surprise attack. Before they can act, Thousand-Eyed Wind suddenly explodes and disappears from the universe.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shifts from reacting to the chase to targeting the source of Ulbert’s intelligence. He is cautious about the Wish-Granter Specter but tries to control its risks through precise wording, while making the Elbow-Strike Specter read the wish before the Joke Specter volunteers.
  • Ulbert is confident that his surveillance and the legion’s systems give him the upper hand, but his advantage is abruptly destroyed.
  • The King of the Undead and Ulbert share a trusting, if somewhat improvised, discussion of their next move.
  • The Joke and Elbow-Strike Specters show camaraderie after reconciling; their banter also reveals their histories and the dangers of dealing with the Wish-Granter.

Significant themes

  • Pride and sudden reversal: Ulbert’s confidence in his powerful surveillance tool collapses in an instant.
  • Power versus loopholes: Even an immensely strong item or monster may have a specific weakness—or be defeated by carefully exploiting its rules.
  • The cost of wishes: The Wish-Granter embodies the danger of bargains, twisted interpretations, and hidden consequences.
  • Information as power: Ulbert’s ability to track Chen gives him a major advantage, making the destruction of his World Item a strategic turning point.

Ch. 372Godslayer

Chapter Summary

  • Chen Feng’s wish—using the Joke Specter to snap the willow branch and erase the Ancestor of Flame Demons’ World Item—worked, but triggered the branch’s equivalent-exchange rule. The Joke Specter must fulfill a wish for the Wish-Granter Specter, or suffer permanent, universe-level bad luck; if it refuses, Chen Feng’s wish will also be undone.
  • The Joke Specter’s assigned task is to play a game in the cabin of “Big Brother,” a powerful Special-Grade Specter known as the Godslayer. In his games, winners receive rewards, while losers surrender everything, including their lives. Worse, he can revert specters to Death Divinity, erasing their memories and effectively destroying their identities.
  • Chen Feng realizes his wish may have been too ambitious, but refuses to accept a deal that would undo his success. He decides to visit Big Brother rather than abandon the challenge, and asks the Joke Specter and Elbow-Strike Specter to guide him.
  • In Room Nine, Chen Feng finds walls and piles made from the bones of defeated Lokis, then reads a ledger listing other divine beings—among them Set, Anansi, and Hermes—who lost to Big Brother. He politely asks to hear the rules.
  • Big Brother presents a contract. The system warns Chen Feng that it is Multiversal Rank: signing will disable all abilities below that level, including his major systems and divine powers. His equipment and systems cannot currently rescue him if he loses, though Daily Intelligence confidently predicts he will prevail.

Character Developments and Interactions

  • Chen Feng remains pragmatic and transactional. He briefly worries that his wish was too large, but his fear of losing the World Item’s destruction outweighs the danger, so he faces the Godslayer directly.
  • The Joke Specter is frightened by the consequences of its assigned game but cannot refuse without triggering the curse.
  • The Elbow-Strike Specter explains the curse and warns Chen Feng about Big Brother’s strength and the fate that awaits losers.
  • The Wish-Granter Specter insists that the exchange is unavoidable and blames the specters for making such a large wish.
  • Big Brother is introduced indirectly through the specters’ warnings, the bone-built room, and the ledger of defeated gods, establishing his menace before Chen Feng meets him at the card table.

Significant Themes

  • The cost of wishes: Powerful gains demand an equally serious obligation, and refusing the price risks losing the original reward.
  • Identity and survival: Reversion to Death Divinity may preserve a specter’s existence but erases the memories that make it itself.
  • Risk and confidence: Chen Feng chooses to confront danger for the sake of a favorable bargain, while the system’s warning creates tension about whether his confidence is justified.

Ch. 373Brother Liang, save me!

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng studies Room Nine’s shotgun game before entering. Each player has one health initially and receives three single-use items: a cigarette that adds maximum and current health, a saw that doubles the next live shot’s damage, and a phone that reveals a future shell. A challenger may invite a consenting friend, but the two cannot communicate.
  • Chen Feng watches a reckless challenger’s friend lose. The friend uses the saw on the first shot, hits a blank, and then dies when the dealer fires the saw-enhanced live round. Chen Feng concludes that watching careless players is making him dumber.
  • A robot proposes a strategy designed to avoid losing. Chen Feng recognizes its logic: use a cigarette first, shoot oneself, then use the phone on the second round. This preserves control of the gun and can force a win or draw, depending on the shells. The robot draws after the second shell proves live.
  • The next challenger reveals two hidden traps. The dealer’s increased maximum health carries over between games, giving him an advantage against a new challenger; and a draw still counts as “not winning,” so the challenger is absorbed into the dealer’s collection.
  • Chen Feng realizes his own health has also carried over, then deliberately dies and revives using his life divinity, hoping to gain a “victory to the underdog” buff before signing the contract.
  • Choosing a teammate, he rejects several plausible options and calls on the famously reliable-sounding “Brother Liang.”

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shows patience and sharp analytical skill, extracting both the game’s strategic logic and its loopholes by observing other players. His confidence is comic: he calls the challenge easy, casually revives after dying, and ultimately seeks an unexpectedly powerful teammate.
  • The Joke Specter and Elbow-Strike Specter provide comic commentary and misunderstand the rules and strategy. They grow increasingly impressed by Chen Feng’s deductions.
  • The gold-toothed challenger and his flower-shirted friend misunderstand the game’s risks; the friend returns expecting a victory and instead finds his companion dead.
  • The robot applies a mathematically sound, cautious strategy that secures a draw, while the synthetic challenger discovers too late that a draw is still a loss under the contract.
  • Chen Feng’s choice to invite “Brother Liang” sets up the next stage of the chapter’s action.

Significant themes

  • Caution and observation: Chen Feng’s first lesson is to watch before acting, allowing him to learn from others’ mistakes.
  • Rules, wording, and loopholes: Small distinctions—maximum health versus current health, and “win” versus “don’t lose”—determine survival.
  • Risk versus strategy: Aggressive play can be fatal, while careful reasoning may avoid defeat but not necessarily secure a prize.
  • Comic confidence amid danger: The lethal game’s grim mechanics are undercut by the ghosts’ misunderstandings and Chen Feng’s breezy reactions.

Ch. 374In Other Words, Big Bro Won

Key plot points and events

  • Zhuge Liang is imprisoned in Azathoth’s Dream Realm after investigating the Dream Pantheon, whose knowledge corrupts those who encounter it. He uses his Devoted Service Blessing to gather intelligence and is rescued by Big Brother.
  • The Dream Sixth Seat, the Top Tipster, tries to rewrite events by bribing the author of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The attempt fails: Luo Guanzhong will not change the story, and the Seat discovers Big Brother’s story is tied to the Death Pantheon. He panics and erases his own memory.
  • In the Paranormal Universe, Zhuge Liang replaces Chen Feng as Big Brother’s opponent in the shotgun game. The game contract disables Zhuge Liang’s Blessings and forbids outside interference.
  • Zhuge Liang appears to make a clever, cautious play: he uses the future phone, fires a blank at himself, then chooses Cigarettes to gain health and control the next shot.
  • Big Brother counters by secretly choosing the saw. The double damage kills Zhuge Liang, and the spectators realize Big Brother had engineered their confidence by letting them watch his earlier game against the robot.

Character developments and interactions

  • Zhuge Liang shows strategic brilliance and willingness to risk his life, first to learn about the Dream Pantheon and then to escape. His careful game plan is ultimately defeated by Big Brother’s hidden advantage.
  • Big Brother is revealed as a calculating, deceptive player who anticipates not only his opponent but also the spectators’ assumptions. His victory suggests his apparent luck and insight make ordinary strategies unreliable.
  • The Dream Sixth Seat is powerful enough to manipulate stories through real-world donations, but is baffled by historical details and frightened by Big Brother’s connection to the Death Pantheon.
  • The Elbow-Strike Specter repeatedly misunderstands the game, while the Joke Specter is more perceptive. Both are misled by Big Brother’s staged demonstration and end up recognizing the trap too late.

Significant themes

  • Knowledge and corruption: Understanding the Dream Pantheon is dangerous, while knowledge can also be a source of power.
  • Strategy versus cheating: Zhuge Liang’s sound reasoning fails because he assumes a fair, rational opponent; Big Brother’s concealed information and manipulation overturn the expected logic.
  • Narrative control: The Top Tipster’s ability to alter stories links fictional events to real-world creators, but even that power has limits.
  • False confidence and misdirection: Big Brother wins partly by shaping what others believe, making the spectators’ assumptions part of the trap.

Ch. 375Northward

Plot points

  • Chen Feng returns to find the first Challenger dead and Big Brother holding the shotgun. He reveals that the first shell was blank, which puzzles the watching Joke Specter.
  • The second game begins. Big Brother has two hearts because Cigarettes permanently raised his health limit; Chen Feng has four item boxes, including the saw passed on by the first Challenger.
  • The Joke Specter realizes the first Challenger deliberately sacrificed himself so Chen Feng could inherit the extra saw. Using both saws would let Chen Feng deal enough damage to defeat Big Brother, but only if he could secure a live shell.
  • The first Challenger had used the Future Phone to check the opening shell of Chen Feng’s game. Chen Feng infers this from the feather fan left on the table, which bears the clue “Northern Expedition.” Its direction—and the “north” clue Zhuge Liang had given him earlier—indicates that the first shell is live.
  • Chen Feng discards the phone, shoots himself, and survives. He announces that the outcome is decided.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng demonstrates calm deduction, recognizing the game as a team effort and acting decisively on the clue left for him.
  • The first Challenger (Zhuge Liang) is revealed as a strategic, self-sacrificing teammate who lost deliberately, passed on the saw, and secretly conveyed the information Chen Feng needed.
  • Big Brother appears to have controlled the first game through luck and mind-reading, but his plan depended on the first Challenger not finding a way to help the next player.
  • The Joke Specter works through the hidden rules and comes to understand the sacrifice and Chen Feng’s winning strategy. The Elbow-Strike Specter initially misunderstands why the first Challenger lost, prompting the Joke Specter to explain.

Significant themes

  • Cooperation and sacrifice: The first Challenger gives up his chance to win so Chen Feng can succeed.
  • Reasoning against apparent certainty: Careful reading of the rules exposes a path through Big Brother’s seemingly unbeatable advantages.
  • Trust and communication: The fan’s “North” clue lets teammates coordinate despite the game forbidding direct contact.
  • Selflessness versus trickery: The specters frame the failed mythological tricksters as selfish, contrasting them with Zhuge Liang’s willingness to sacrifice himself.

Ch. 376The second World Item

Key plot points and events

  • In Big Bro’s lethal game, Chen Feng uses the future phone to survive the first round, then saws down the shotgun barrel and shoots Big Bro. He wins, but chooses Zhuge Liang—already dead and held in Big Bro’s collection—as his reward rather than taking one of the collection’s extraordinary treasures.
  • Chen Feng realizes the game can be used to rescue friends in danger—or even bring back the dead. He had considered choosing Sika’s Grandfather, but worries the old Hero might confuse live rounds and blanks. He chooses Zhuge Liang instead, partly because Zhuge Liang has not sent him a new Voyage Roster.
  • Zhuge Liang returns from the dead and says he has been to Universe 42. He gives Chen Feng three Brocade Pouches containing strategies for a future crisis involving the Dream Pantheon. Their exchange implies that opening the pouches too early could alert someone who can learn about past events. They agree to say no more.
  • After Zhuge Liang leaves, Chen Feng asks the Joke Specter to bring in one of its underlings and record the game’s solution. The Joke Specter summons the Suona Monster, a being that destroys civilizations by sounding a deathly tune. The Monster has just annihilated a civilization that avoided death through consciousness backups and transfers, but submits when ordered to play.
  • The Suona Monster accidentally kills Chen Feng with its greeting. Chen Feng resurrects himself, finds a shotgun in his possession, and discovers it is the World Item Winner Takes All. It turns powerful enemies he has defeated into bullets.
  • The magazine contains only two bullets: one made from the Five Seats of Vengeance, and another Chen Feng identifies as the Great Yokai.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shows both restraint and strategic thinking: despite coveting Big Bro’s treasures, he spends his reward to restore Zhuge Liang. He also quickly interprets Zhuge Liang’s hints and recognizes the identities of the weapon’s bullets.
  • Zhuge Liang returns composed and enigmatic. His journey to Universe 42 and his carefully guarded advice suggest he is preparing Chen Feng for a dangerous confrontation with the Dream Pantheon.
  • The Joke Specter is loyal to Chen Feng, whom it calls its Big Bro, and eager to help. Its comic rivalry with the Elbow-Strike Specter continues, and it instructs the Suona Monster to clear the game.
  • The Suona Monster is obedient but dangerously lethal: its greeting kills Chen Feng, prompting the Joke Specter to angrily rebuke it.
  • The specters’ jokes contrast with the serious, layered exchange between Chen Feng and Zhuge Liang.

Significant themes

  • Friendship and sacrifice: Chen Feng gives up the chance to claim a powerful prize in order to save Zhuge Liang.
  • Death and resurrection: The game can restore the dead, while the Aether Empire’s effort to abolish death produces an oppressive society and ecological imbalance.
  • Cunning and hidden knowledge: Zhuge Liang’s pouches, his cryptic warnings, and the Dream Pantheon’s possible ability to learn past events point to an information war.
  • Power and its cost: Winner Takes All converts defeated enemies into ammunition, but only a tiny number of Chen Feng’s victories qualify—suggesting the weapon recognizes exceptional foes rather than ordinary strength.

Ch. 377Wanji's enemies

Key plot points and events

  • After surviving Room Nine, Chen Feng and his classmates return to the corridor, where other students admire their bravery. Chen Feng is still worried about the coming western-fantasy battle against a hundred system-bearing Heroes, and wants to conserve his powerful bullets for the Ghost King.
  • In Mechanical Class, the Joke Specter explains that “Appliance Malfunction” can disable not just ordinary machines but systems used by transmigrators. Chen Feng studies the textbook and discovers its author’s long-standing vendetta against Wanji, who has allegedly cheated system users out of their rewards, exploited them for intelligence and livestream profits, and even trapped one user in accelerated training while erasing his memories.
  • The book teaches Chen Feng how to interfere with lower-tier systems. By reversing the process, he repairs and upgrades his Ghost-Catching System to version 5.0, unlocking the ability to recruit weaker vicious ghosts, learn defeated opponents’ escape routes, and turn ghosts into specters using Death Divinity. He concludes that Wanji’s Chosen outside Cihang City likely have systems at least this advanced.
  • Wanting to study higher-level mechanics, Chen Feng learns he needs a Level-Two Ghost certificate. His classmates identify Xiao Si—the Yearning Ghost—as the class’s Level-Two student and say she is attending Anthropology. Two male specters offer to approach her, but Chen Feng dismisses them and decides to go himself.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng shifts from worrying about how to face system users to seeing systems as a vulnerability he can exploit. His quick study of the textbook lets him both break and repair supernatural systems, reinforcing his ingenuity and confidence.
  • The Joke Specter proves to be a knowledgeable guide, connecting the strange mechanics course to Chen Feng’s larger problem.
  • The Elbow-Strike Specter and Joke Specter reveal their shared admiration for Xiao Si, though their boasts about winning her over make them seem more comically self-assured than persuasive.
  • Wanji is portrayed as an exploitative system-maker, though his alleged crimes are presented through the textbook author’s angry account.

Significant themes

  • Systems and exploitation: The chapter humorously exposes how powerful systems can conceal manipulation, stolen rewards, and forced labor.
  • Knowledge as a weapon: Chen Feng turns a seemingly absurd class into a practical countermeasure against powerful opponents.
  • Reversal and adaptation: Rather than merely disabling systems, Chen Feng learns to repair and upgrade them, turning an enemy’s methods to his advantage.
  • Comedy and parody: The chapter mixes supernatural danger with jokes about school courses, system mechanics, and awkward attempts at romance.

Character interactions

  • Chen Feng banters with the Joke Specter about whether Appliance Malfunction is useful, then listens as it explains the textbook and the route to advanced study.
  • He reacts with growing outrage to the textbook author’s accusations against Wanji, eventually sharing the author’s hostility.
  • The two specters compete over who would be better suited to approach Xiao Si; Chen Feng teases them about their crushes, rejects their plan, and confidently takes over.

Ch. 378Date a live

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng returns to class in high spirits, but Joke Specter warns him not to look too pleased. He bumps into a small, human-looking boy and learns they share anthropology class.
  • The boy, Xiao E, fills in for the absent Teacher Dream Ghost. Yearning Ghost attends and openly tries to impress him, while Joke Specter fumes with jealousy.
  • Xiao E asks what happens to a body when it is burned. Chen Feng answers accurately from personal experience, earning the boy’s admiration.
  • After class, Yearning Ghost gives Chen Feng her level-two ID in exchange for help winning Xiao E’s affection. Chen Feng advises using the “suspension bridge effect” to associate fear with attraction, then suggests winning Xiao E over with food.
  • Xiao E offers Chen Feng cookies he made in cooking class. Chen Feng passes them to Elbow-Strike Specter, who eats them all; Yearning Ghost crushes his skull in anger when she realizes none were saved for her.
  • Yearning Ghost rejects using the Willow Branch to force Xiao E to love her. Joke Specter instead proposes staging a rescue: the group will pose as dangerous ghosts, then Yearning Ghost will save Xiao E and appear heroic.
  • The group agrees to the plan and learns the boy’s name is Xiao E. Chen Feng suspects from his thinness and love of food that he may be a Starvation Ghost.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng uses his knowledge of death and dating tactics to navigate the school’s strange social world. He accepts Yearning Ghost’s ID only after offering to help her.
  • Yearning Ghost is infatuated with Xiao E and wants his genuine affection rather than magically compelled love. Her shyness and tenderness coexist with alarming possessiveness and violence.
  • Joke Specter is jealous of Yearning Ghost’s crush but ultimately helps devise the rescue scheme.
  • Xiao E comes across as gentle, apologetic, and talented at cooking, while his classroom question suggests familiarity with grim subject matter.
  • Elbow-Strike Specter becomes the unlucky victim of Yearning Ghost’s rage after eating the cookies.

Significant themes

  • Romance filtered through horror and comedy: courtship advice, crushes, and jealousy are paired with ghosts, death, and grotesque violence.
  • Genuine affection versus manipulation: Yearning Ghost refuses to use magic and wants Xiao E to love her willingly, though the group’s planned rescue still involves deception.
  • Misunderstanding and absurdity: Chen Feng’s practical advice is repeatedly distorted into crude or literal interpretations by the ghosts.
  • The uncanny ordinary: Classes, cooking, and romantic schemes exist alongside burned bodies, death divinity, and supernatural danger.

Character interactions

  • Chen Feng mediates between the jealous Joke Specter and Yearning Ghost, then becomes her adviser and helps her pursue Xiao E.
  • Yearning Ghost tries to impress Xiao E in class, while Xiao E’s praise of Chen Feng briefly redirects her hopes—and his cookies become the focus of her jealousy.
  • The ghosts misunderstand Chen Feng’s advice, but Joke Specter eventually offers the plan that brings them together: stage a threat so Yearning Ghost can rescue Xiao E.

Ch. 379Ghost Village

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng’s group plans to stage an attack on the Starvation Ghost so the Yearning Ghost can “rescue” him and win his affection. They abandon the idea of fighting in his universe after realizing the students’ true forms and abilities could destroy it.
  • The Yearning Ghost explains that ordinary living creatures die simply by approaching her, ruling out Chen Feng’s suggestion of finding her a human admirer.
  • The Joke Specter proposes using cooking class to get close to the boy. Chen Feng learns that students make food by killing chosen elites in a series of games and infusing it with their fear. The elites can eventually earn resurrection, and the dead are reincarnated with their memories erased.
  • The Yearning Ghost prepares a heart-shaped lunchbox, but the Elbow-Strike Specter finds it so awful that he spits it out.
  • Knowing which cooking room the Starvation Ghost uses, the group searches the corridor. Chen Feng chooses a room called Ghost Village and notices that its unlocked door feels suspicious.
  • Inside Ghost Village, a Plague Doctor and two grotesque wedding-clad ghosts demand that a paper-bodied monster—identified as the Substitute Death Ghost—hurry up and prepare to kill a child. The Substitute Death Ghost says it needs extra lives before facing the powerful Starvation Ghost.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng shows caution and concern for collateral damage, while also questioning the school’s treatment of souls. He ultimately chooses the Ghost Village room despite sensing danger.
  • The Yearning Ghost remains intensely focused on the Starvation Ghost and demonstrates both formidable space-crossing abilities and a fatal effect on nearby living beings.
  • The Elbow-Strike Specter is portrayed as physically dangerous but comically vulnerable to the Yearning Ghost’s terrible cooking.
  • The Substitute Death Ghost appears cautious and strategic, preparing extra lives before taking on a stronger opponent.

Significant themes

  • Danger beneath comic situations: The romantic scheme and terrible cooking humor sit alongside threats capable of destroying entire universes.
  • Power, rules, and collateral damage: School restrictions contain the students’ deadly abilities, but spaces such as cooking rooms have loopholes.
  • Ethics of exploitation: Chen Feng objects to turning the dead into entertainment, even though the textbook offers them a path to resurrection and a new life.
  • Foreshadowing and suspicion: The unlocked Ghost Village door and the ominous figures inside suggest that the group has walked into a dangerous setup.

Character interactions

  • Chen Feng tries to dissuade the Yearning Ghost from risking damage to the Starvation Ghost’s universe, jokingly offering alternative romantic prospects; she rejects them because living beings cannot survive near her.
  • The Joke Specter’s cooking-class idea redirects the group’s plan, while the Elbow-Strike Specter’s reaction to the lunchbox provides comic relief.
  • Chen Feng questions his companions’ assumptions about the unlocked door, but the Elbow-Strike Specter dismisses his concern—prompting Chen Feng to suspect trouble is now inevitable.
  • The Plague Doctor impatiently pressures the Substitute Death Ghost, who defends its preparations by pointing out the strength of its intended opponent.

Ch. 380The Elbow-Strike Specter Was No Maggot

Plot points and events

  • Chen Feng, Yearning Ghost, Joke Specter, and Elbow-Strike Specter wait at the entrance to Good Person Village, hoping other mission participants will help reveal Starvation Ghost’s killing rule. The specters disguise themselves so the newcomers won’t mistake them for enemies.
  • Several elite arrivals describe missions tied to the village’s April 3 festival. Their instructions range from delivering a letter to attending—and strictly obeying rules at—the banquet. Comparing clues leads Chen Feng to suspect that Starvation Ghost’s rule involves food.
  • The group learns that April 3 is the Cold Food Festival, when fire is forbidden. The villagers have taken their food to Good Person Village, leaving the party with nothing to eat except offerings at a grave. Eating them may provoke the dead; refusing may trigger Starvation Ghost’s rule.
  • A blind, unusually tall old man reveals the grave’s history. Chen Feng identifies its occupant as an extraordinarily powerful ghost, and the newcomers’ protective charms and religious safeguards fail when they approach.
  • Elbow-Strike Specter casually eats the grave’s roast chicken, provoking the female ghost. He destroys her with a single elbow strike.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng stays cautious and analytical, using the missions, festival customs, and village clues to infer Starvation Ghost’s rule. He also wonders whether the apparent similarities to Earth imply that the “real world” resembles it.
  • Elbow-Strike Specter is confident enough to dismiss the danger and eat the offering; his overwhelming strength proves his bravado justified.
  • Joke Specter helps keep the group’s plan lighthearted, while Yearning Ghost grows impatient to find Starvation Ghost.
  • The arriving Taoist Master and Celestial Team captain boast about their spiritual and religious protections, only to have them fail spectacularly. Their confidence contrasts with Chen Feng’s caution and Elbow-Strike Specter’s actual power.

Significant themes

  • Rules and survival: Small differences between missions—such as whether participants may leave early—can determine who survives.
  • Knowledge versus confidence: Chen Feng’s careful deduction is more useful than the newcomers’ impressive credentials and protective items.
  • Dark comedy amid horror: The grave’s grotesquely elaborate backstory, the visitors’ boasting, and the sudden one-strike victory make the danger deliberately absurd.
  • Power and perspective: A ghost terrifying to the newcomers is trivial to the specters, highlighting how strength depends on who is judging it.
