Ch. 101The Group Was Full of Talented People

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng tells the group chat he has reached Perfected Qi Refining and is about to enter Foundation Establishment. Unlike the others’ worlds, his Foundation Establishment will trigger deadly Tribulation Lightning—apparently because someone altered his world’s laws.
  • The First Saint Demon Venerable and Unlucky Corpse Emperor offer protective artifacts, but Chen Feng cannot use their help directly. The War Marshal instead sends him blueprints for a Reverse Inductor: a cybernetic body that converts electrical attacks into energy and can release that energy.
  • To hide his tribulation from the Great Yokai, the Demon Venerable proposes spreading a flawed cultivation manual that draws many people into Foundation Establishment, creating constant storms and distracting the yokai. Chen Feng balks at the collateral damage, though the Netherworld Star member suggests targeting his enemies instead.
  • Chen Feng asks how to deal with Bull Face, a bodiless consciousness that can move among Incarnations. The group offers drastic possibilities—sending him into Subspace, eating his consciousness, or destroying every Incarnation in the city—but no practical solution emerges.
  • The Netherworld Star member confirms that Body of Sorrow, whom he ate, cannot be restored even through Time Reversal. With a Dharma Protector dead, Bull Face may hide, making him harder to find.
  • Chen Feng turns to Prophet India for help locating his enemies. When he arrives at the P.E.A.C.D. base through Liu Xiaohu’s Incarnation, India is missing from the corridor where she usually appears, leaving him alarmed.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng remains pragmatic but shows concern about innocent people who might be harmed by the Demon Venerable’s plan. He gains a promising technical solution to the lightning threat but still lacks answers about Bull Face.
  • The First Saint Demon Venerable’s joking manner gives way to his ruthless, experienced approach to sabotage and distraction.
  • The group’s supposedly powerful members prove unevenly helpful: the King of the Monsters boasts about surviving lightning yet suggests an indiscriminate attack that could wipe out the city. The group teases him, and his status changes to “Getting Beaten Up” before he abruptly logs off.
  • The members’ banter mixes absurd humor with grim advice, while Chen Feng’s final discovery shifts the chapter back to the danger and uncertainty of his own world.

Significant themes

  • Power and its costs: Solutions to Chen Feng’s problems often threaten innocent lives or cause widespread destruction.
  • Unintended consequences: Altered natural laws and the loss of Body of Sorrow reshape the stakes in ways the group cannot easily undo.
  • Isolation amid connection: The chat offers knowledge and technology, but it cannot solve Chen Feng’s most urgent local threats.
  • Uncertainty and disruption: India’s unexpected absence closes the chapter on a new mystery.

Ch. 102The Seeds of Foundation Establishment

Key plot points and events

  • After sensing a sudden change in Cihang City, Chen Feng abandons his Incarnation and logs off rather than risk confronting the five final bosses.
  • A system message reports that Liu Xiaohu’s Incarnation is hungry, but Chen Feng stays offline in case it is bait. He sends Meng Chengcheng to investigate and learns Liu Xiaohu has fainted and is hospitalized.
  • Chen Feng suspects Cihang Bodhisattva’s stone statue caused the change. He considers ways to locate Bull Face, but postpones action because Bull Face is likely wary after Body of Sorrow’s death.
  • Chen Feng turns to his next goal: reaching Foundation Establishment. He cannot understand the Cybernetic Body blueprints, and the Trio are no better at deciphering them. He decides Mr. QP, a capable researcher trapped in Crazy Zoo, may be able to help once Chen Feng rescues him.
  • At the Prison, Chen Feng begins carrying out the Demon Venerable’s instructions by distributing the Mayfly Record, disguised as the Feather Record. The method lets practitioners reach Foundation Establishment, but it contains a lethal backdoor.
  • Chen Feng warns the prisoners to stay cautious and avoid provoking monsters, while privately acknowledging that Foundation Establishment will not make them strong enough to face the city’s threats.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng is cautious and strategic, retreating from danger and using Meng Chengcheng and Old Wolf to check on Liu Xiaohu without exposing himself. He also weighs the risks of recruiting Opinion Desire or repeating the trials to find Bull Face.
  • Meng Chengcheng recognizes Chen Feng as the one possessing Liu Xiaohu and agrees to investigate after he reminds her that he saved her.
  • The Trio’s lack of mathematical ability frustrates Chen Feng; their exchange also highlights how unsuited they are to analyzing the blueprints.
  • Chen Feng chooses not to ask Jiang Die for help because she may be the Lord’s Incarnation and could recognize the blueprints’ Subspace origins.
  • The prisoners regard Chen Feng as a “High Immortal” and accept the cultivation manual, unaware of its hidden danger.

Significant themes

  • Caution and uncertainty: Chen Feng must act amid incomplete information, hidden enemies, and the risk that small changes have altered events.
  • Moral compromise: Teaching the cultivation method may endanger good people now or empower villains who could harm them later.
  • Power and manipulation: Chen Feng uses time-reset abilities to dismiss moral hesitation and begins treating the prisoners as pieces in a larger plan.
  • False hope and concealed costs: The manual offers a path to Foundation Establishment, but its fatal backdoor makes the gift far more dangerous than the prisoners realize.

Ch. 103Mr. QP

Key plot points and events

  • Six months after switching to the faster Mayfly Record, the cultivators’ progress has surged, and the first are already facing tribulation.
  • Chen Feng discovers that India is impersonating the supposedly dead Body of Sorrow. India and several other Dharma Protectors now serve Cihang Bodhisattva, whose influence has spread through the Holy Cow Cult. Cihang knows Body of Sorrow is dead and plans to use the impersonation—and Chen Feng’s staged role as a successful believer—to lure Bull Face.
  • Chen Feng asks the Wealth Dharma Protector for 200 billion, hoping to complete his spending task, but is told that producing or moving that much money would be impractical.
  • After Bull Face fails to contact him for a month, Chen Feng goes to the Zoo to find Mr. QP, the source of the Tribulation Lightning. Old Wolf suggests looking among the Demon Kings, since only one could hide a person for so long.
  • Chen Feng reaches Shark King’s lair after fighting Elephant King, Bear King, and Mantis God. Each defeat has allowed Cihang to recruit another Great Sage, making her growing power a concern.
  • Chen Feng finds QP—but QP says he does not want to be rescued. Shark King calls him “darling,” revealing that the two are romantically involved.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng remains resourceful but grows increasingly uneasy about Cihang’s expanding power and India’s transformation. His search for QP ends in an unexpected personal entanglement rather than a straightforward rescue.
  • India has become a loyal, composed agent of Cihang after encountering the Bodhisattva’s true form. Her change leaves Chen Feng wondering whether she is still the person he knew.
  • Cihang Bodhisattva is shown to be strategic and increasingly influential: she has taken over the Holy Cow Cult’s Dharma Protectors and recruits powerful yokai as Chen Feng defeats them.
  • Shark King and QP appear to have a close relationship. QP rejects Chen Feng’s rescue attempt, while Shark King steps in protectively.
  • Old Wolf helps Chen Feng narrow his search by reasoning that only a Demon King could conceal someone undetected.

Significant themes

  • Power and influence: Cihang’s rise may be more dangerous than the decline of the existing Great Yokai.
  • Transformation and loyalty: India’s altered identity raises doubts about what remains of her former self.
  • Unexpected alliances: The apparent captive is content with his situation, complicating Chen Feng’s assumptions about rescue and allegiance.
  • Comedic contrast: Chen Feng’s serious, battered mission ends with the surprise that QP is Shark King’s “darling.”

Ch. 104The Gathering Storm

Key plot points and events

  • Shark King initially threatens Chen Feng, but Mr. Qipa calms her with affection. Their over-the-top romance—and Qipa’s exhaustion from keeping up with her—provides comic relief.
  • Chen Feng and Mr. Qipa discuss the Zoo. Qipa confirms that its supposed supernatural rules were invented by the monsters, and says P.E.A.C.D.’s false intelligence makes him suspect something is wrong within the organization. Chen Feng agrees.
  • Chen Feng gives Qipa engineering blueprints. Though they are outside his specialty, Qipa offers to create a biological version and asks Chen to return in a month with supplies.
  • In Cihang City, Bull Face—secretly running a lottery shop—feels threatened despite the cult’s apparent calm. The missing Ten Thousand Souls Banner and the loss of Demon’s time-and-space travel suggest a powerful new enemy has emerged.
  • Needing more Incarnations, Bull Face selects believer Liu Ling for a Heaven Ritual. He judges her record plausible because her son once attacked a gathering and killed a subordinate. He chooses the ritual date at random, hoping to avoid an ambush, then orders it to begin that day.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng remains pragmatic and curious: he learns about the Zoo and P.E.A.C.D. while securing Qipa’s help with the blueprints.
  • Mr. Qipa is affectionate toward Shark King but privately admits he is struggling to match her stamina. His relationship with her mixes sincere devotion with physical comedy.
  • Shark King shifts quickly from threatening Chen to acting bashful and demanding affection from Qipa, revealing a softer, possessive side.
  • Bull Face is increasingly anxious and distrustful. His careful screening of followers—and his reliance on random timing—shows how strongly he fears an unseen, possibly time-travel-informed attacker.
  • Chen Feng’s file is discarded without scrutiny, creating an ironic contrast with Bull Face’s detailed suspicion of everyone else.

Significant themes

  • Distrust and hidden threats: Both Chen and Qipa suspect institutional deception, while Bull Face fears an enemy he cannot identify.
  • Power and vulnerability: Even formidable figures have weaknesses—Qipa is overwhelmed by Shark King, and Bull Face’s authority cannot protect him from uncertainty.
  • Chance versus foreknowledge: Bull Face’s random date selection may be useless against someone who knows past events.
  • Comedy amid danger: The couple’s exaggerated romance and Chen’s reactions lighten a chapter that also advances the looming threat around Cihang City.

Ch. 105You're Playing It Like This?

Plot points and events

  • Old Wolf reports that a man in a training suit has summoned Liu Ling, Yellow Hair’s mother, to a “Heaven Ritual.” Chen Feng realizes Bull Face is moving and decides to follow, despite being underprepared.
  • Old Wolf uses the Wind-Control Art to conceal them as they trail the group. After several decoy stops, the man uses a set of keys to reveal a hidden Great Auditorium. Thirteen believers enter, and the building disappears.
  • The auditorium’s disappearance erases Chen Feng, Old Wolf, Liu Ling, and the believers from the memories of everyone outside. Their actions are reassigned to others, showing how Bull Face’s powers can rewrite reality and memory. Chen Feng’s decision to follow is crucial: otherwise, he too might have forgotten the opportunity.
  • Inside, a singer distributes an Ascension Gospel and leads the believers in the Holy Hymn. The book contains two contradictory rules: chanting the Holy Words causes a person to burn, while listening to the hymn causes brainwashing and bodily possession. Each rule directs victims toward the other, leaving Chen Feng with no safe choice.
  • As Chen Feng struggles to understand the trap, a believer nearby begins chanting the Holy Words.

Character development and interactions

  • Chen Feng weighs caution against a rare chance to confront Bull Face. He chooses to act, accepting the risk because waiting could cost him the opportunity permanently. Once inside, his familiarity with horror “rules” cannot help him: the contradiction leaves even him feeling powerless.
  • Old Wolf demonstrates how much he has improved after six months of training, successfully concealing both himself and Chen Feng.
  • Liu Ling becomes the target of Bull Face’s summons, though her role in the ritual remains unclear.
  • Bull Face is established as a powerful and devious enemy whose methods can alter memories and the apparent history of events.
  • In a parallel scene, Erha, She Qingqing, and the Great Yokai sense that the past six months have become surreal. The Great Yokai’s investigation into the sudden spread of identical cultivation techniques intensifies his suspicion that the world itself has been altered.

Significant themes

  • Caution versus seizing an opportunity: Chen Feng must act before he is fully prepared or risk losing his chance for good.
  • Manipulated memory and reality: Bull Face’s influence makes people forget events and attribute actions to others.
  • Rules as traps: The Gospel’s opposing instructions turn a familiar survival-horror structure into an impossible dilemma, where obeying either rule seems fatal.
  • Disorientation and loss of agency: The characters struggle to trust their memories, their understanding of the world, and even the choices available to them.

Ch. 106This Bastard Was Devious Beyond Belief

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng realizes the ritual’s Holy Words and Holy Hymn are lethal, but decides he must stay until he sees a believer transformed—proof that Bull Face is present.
  • He plans to endure the curse using the Tortoise Art’s ability to feign death. He orders Old Wolf to maintain their invisibility until the ritual reveals Bull Face, warning him that staying will likely cost him his life.
  • Old Wolf chooses to stay, trusting Chen Feng’s promise to revive him and cure his hidden ailment. Chen Feng warmly accepts him as a subordinate, asking him to call him “Boss.”
  • Bull Face is secretly hiding among the thirteen singing believers, rather than in the singer or the Training Suit men. He can shift between Incarnations in a second, making him exceptionally difficult to kill.
  • As the ritual begins, some believers become puppets while others—including Liu Ling—are consumed by flames. After several transformations succeed, Bull Face lets his guard down.
  • Chen Feng attacks in one devastating burst, killing everyone in the auditorium. Having entered a feigned-death state before the ritual began, he avoids the curse and awakens unharmed.
  • Bull Face survives as a disembodied consciousness, but with every possible Incarnation destroyed, he has nowhere to escape. Chen Feng realizes Bull Face must still be alive because the mission remains incomplete, and keeps searching.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng demonstrates patience and tactical discipline, accepting personal pain and risk rather than acting before confirming Bull Face’s presence. He also earns Old Wolf’s loyalty through an honest, if grim, choice.
  • Old Wolf proves ambitious and steadfast by choosing to remain despite knowing he will die.
  • Bull Face is revealed as deeply paranoid and cunning: he uses decoys and hides among innocents, relying on opponents’ reluctance to kill indiscriminately. Yet Chen Feng’s attack catches him without an escape route.
  • Chen Feng and Bull Face end in a tense, mutual standoff: each recognizes the other as dangerously clever and wonders how much the other knows.

Significant themes

  • Deception and counter-deception: Both Chen Feng and Bull Face rely on misdirection, hidden identities, and assumptions about their opponent.
  • Patience and timing: Chen Feng waits until he can strike with certainty; Bull Face’s brief lapse in vigilance proves costly.
  • Loyalty and trust: Old Wolf’s decision to stay reflects his faith in Chen Feng’s promise.
  • Moral ambiguity: Chen Feng’s all-at-once attack kills innocent believers as well as threats, underscoring the brutal costs of confronting supernatural enemies.

Ch. 107Finally Took the Bait

Plot and events

  • Chen Feng searches the blood-soaked auditorium for Bull Face, who has lost his Incarnations and can only stall or wait for help.
  • When Chen Feng calls him out, Bull Face tries to bargain, offering power and information. He claims not to know the other leaders’ abilities because they erased their memories of one another after a past enemy exploited them.
  • Bull Face confirms that Cihang Bodhisattva is good and explains that the group sealed her because they themselves are villains. Chen Feng remains wary, suspecting Bull Face’s apparent surrender is a delay tactic.
  • Bull Face reveals that his weakness is hidden in the Gospel Book’s parables. Chen Feng rapidly reads all six stories, which appear connected to the Six Great Protectors. Bull Face then gives him the supposed clue: read the first character of each title. The characters spell out, “Do not read the Gospel Book.”
  • The warning is a trap: picking up the book lets Bull Face possess its reader. Bull Face reveals that he lied about the danger and explains his power of Cognitive Modification, which can implant false beliefs.
  • Bull Face admits he created the supposed rule that horrors must follow rules and truthfully explain their killing rules. For millennia, this belief made people trust horrors—and helped conceal his manipulation. He begins possessing Chen Feng, expecting the takeover to succeed.
  • Chen Feng turns Bull Face’s boastful phrase back on him: “After all that acting, you finally took the bait,” hinting that he may have anticipated the possession.

Character development and interactions

  • Chen Feng is quick-thinking and suspicious, but his confidence in the established rules of horrors makes him vulnerable to Bull Face’s long-running deception. Even while apparently trapped, he remains defiant and suggests he has a counterplan.
  • Bull Face shifts from waiting and bargaining to triumphantly revealing his scheme. His pride leads him to explain too much, and his belief in his victory may expose him to Chen Feng’s counterattack.
  • Their exchange becomes a contest of manipulation: Chen Feng probes for weaknesses, Bull Face feeds him false information, and both try to make the other believe they have control.

Significant themes

  • Truth and manufactured belief: A rule trusted for generations can be a deliberate lie.
  • Caution versus manipulation: Chen Feng’s usual skepticism is undermined by a seemingly reliable system of rules.
  • Pride and overconfidence: Bull Face’s need to explain his elaborate success may create an opening for his opponent.
  • Trust and moral alignment: Cihang Bodhisattva’s goodness contrasts with the villains’ motives for sealing her.

Ch. 108Why Aren't You Laughing Now?

Plot points and events

  • Bull Face invades Chen Feng’s mind to seize his body, but Chen has deliberately baited him with the Netherworld Star’s selfie.
  • The image exposes Bull Face to the Netherworld Star: a terrifying living planet that tries to swallow him. Unable to erase such a vast memory, Bull Face deletes part of his own memories to escape, returning to Chen Feng weakened.
  • Bull Face claims Chen can only harm him physically and assumes he has the advantage. Chen reveals that he has another weapon.
  • In a flashback, Chen explains his plan: break through to Foundation Establishment, which will trigger a powerful tribulation. Because Bull Face is possessing him, it cannot escape the Heavenly Dao’s lightning.
  • Chen begins the breakthrough inside the auditorium. Tribulation lightning engulfs the area and starts destroying Bull Face, who begs Chen to release him. Chen mocks him as his apparent victory collapses.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng proves willing to use both psychological traps and dangerous cultivation tactics. He turns Bull Face’s invasion against him, then exploits their connection to force the spirit into the tribulation.
  • Bull Face shifts from confidence to terror. Though resourceful enough to sacrifice part of his memories to escape the Netherworld Star, he returns weakened and misjudges Chen’s remaining options.
  • The Netherworld Star is shown to be overwhelmingly powerful and protective of Chen; it worries that Bull Face’s attack puts the group leader in danger.
  • Chen and Bull Face’s confrontation is a contest of taunts and counterplans: Bull Face boasts that Chen cannot hurt him, but Chen’s tribulation makes that claim irrelevant.

Significant themes

  • Cunning over direct strength: Chen wins by setting a trap and turning Bull Face’s own possession against him.
  • The cost of survival: Bull Face’s escape requires sacrificing memories, which are fundamental to his existence.
  • Power beyond control: The Netherworld Star and the Heavenly Dao represent forces so vast that Bull Face’s abilities cannot withstand them.
  • Reversal and irony: Bull Face expects the last laugh, only to be caught in the very danger Chen anticipated.

Ch. 109More Unexpected Surprises

Key plot points

  • Chen Feng withstands the Great Yokai’s Ninefold Tribulation Lightning without using his defensive cultivation technique, choosing to ensure Bull Face dies even at the cost of his own life.
  • The lightning destroys the hall, kills the remaining cultists, and shatters Bull Face’s consciousness. The Great Benefactor System declares the mission to destroy the Mental Hospital and Holy Cow Cult complete, awarding Chen Feng 10 System Points and an Advanced Enhancement Stone.
  • Other system notices reveal that Chen Feng has completed one-fifth of the mission to rescue Cihang Bodhisattva—but receives no repair attempts because Cihang paid in advance.
  • Chen Feng expects to use Load Save, but discovers he has survived as a Loose Immortal: his body is gone, yet his Primordial Spirit remains. Unable to use his usual reset method, he explores the area as a ghost.
  • He is nearly caught by Ghost King’s Ghost Messengers, but a ghost called Brother Dao rescues him and invites him to join his band of followers.
  • The two collect offerings at a grave. Chen Feng learns that refining spirit money strengthens spiritual power, and the Spendthrift System unexpectedly credits him with spending one million.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng proves willing to sacrifice himself to eliminate Bull Face, but his survival forces him to rethink his next steps. He remains resourceful and irreverent, quickly viewing ghosthood as a chance to build spiritual power and prepare for a future fight.
  • Bull Face, the long-hidden ruler of Cihang City, is finally destroyed, ending his threat.
  • Brother Dao is introduced as a confident, self-appointed “next Ghost King.” He saves Chen Feng, explains the danger of the Ghost Messengers, and teaches him how ghosts benefit from spirit money.
  • Chen Feng’s interactions with the system remain comic and transactional: he celebrates his mission reward, curses Cihang’s advance payment, and recognizes a possible route to earning more Spendthrift System points.

Significant themes

  • Sacrifice and persistence: Chen Feng accepts death to accomplish his goal, yet survives in an unexpected form.
  • Rebirth and adaptation: Losing his body shifts the story into a new supernatural phase, with Chen Feng finding ways to grow stronger as a spirit.
  • Humor amid catastrophe: The chapter balances mass destruction and death with Chen Feng’s jokes, complaints, and practical schemes.
  • Systems, rewards, and consequences: Chen Feng’s progress is shaped by competing systems, whose missions and payment rules often produce ironic surprises.

Ch. 110The Goal Was to Become a Ghost Master

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng and Brother Dao decide to recruit ghosts and claim a cemetery, since only offerings burned by the living strengthen ghosts and rival factions already control the cemeteries.
  • Brother Dao leads Chen Feng to a group of Motorcycle Ghosts, hoping to recruit them. His attempt at persuasion fails spectacularly: their leader, A Fei, has him beaten.
  • Chen Feng defeats A Fei in a direct clash, but A Fei refuses to join unless Chen wins a motorcycle race. Chen uses his Divine Sense to gain an early lead, then throws Brother Dao’s ghost-harming cleaver at A Fei, arguing that the race rules never forbade attacking the rider. The system counts the challenge as complete, and A Fei becomes summonable.
  • The Ghost-Catching System restores two functions: Star-Rank Enhancement, which uses spirit money to improve ghosts, and Skill Learning, which lets Chen’s ghosts gain abilities by devouring others.
  • Brother Dao explains Cihang City’s ghost hierarchy: six factions control the city, despite his calling them the “Four Heavenly Kings.” The group chooses the Hungry Ghost King as their eventual target and plans to capture one of his graveyards first.
  • Chen chooses Fire Ghost as their first target, despite the Motorcycle Ghosts’ fear of fire, and confidently claims his “Water Ghost” can defeat him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng shifts from looking for a quick way to start over to embracing the Ghost-Catching System’s potential. He shows confidence and resourcefulness, though his racing victory relies on exploiting a loophole rather than superior riding.
  • Brother Dao is revealed as weak in combat but knowledgeable about Cihang’s factions and strategic about building an organization. His grand recruitment speech gets him beaten, while Chen’s forceful approach wins A Fei’s respect.
  • A Fei moves from hostile challenger to Chen’s recruit after losing the race. His motorcycle-summoning ability and fire weakness become relevant to the group’s plans.
  • The Motorcycle Ghosts’ fear of fire creates tension around Chen’s chosen target, while their respect for him grows after he defeats their leader.

Significant themes

  • Strength versus strategy: Brother Dao argues that winning allegiance requires more than force, but Chen ultimately wins through strength and opportunism.
  • Power built through systems and alliances: Chen’s new recruits, spirit money, and ghost abilities offer a path to growing stronger and challenging established rulers.
  • Comedy through contradiction and loopholes: Brother Dao’s inflated claims, his mistaken “four” kings, and Chen’s technically valid but underhanded race tactic keep the chapter’s serious power-building plot humorous.

Ch. 111I've Only Ever Misjudged One Ghost

Plot and key events

  • Chen Feng and the Ghostfire Boys ride to Fortune and Longevity Cemetery to challenge the Fire Ghost, a subordinate of the Starving Ghost. The Fire Ghost’s ghosts attack, and his flames destroy one of Chen Feng’s allies, revealing how lethal the cemetery gang is.
  • Chen Feng summons the Water Ghost, whose invisibility and strength initially give the Ghostfire Boys hope. But the Fire Ghost’s flames ignite the corpse oil coating the Water Ghost, burning him away.
  • Chen Feng then defeats the Fire Ghost himself with a magically formed bow and arrow. The cemetery ghosts surrender, and Chen Feng takes control of the site.
  • Finding no valuables in the Fire Ghost’s villa, Chen Feng realizes the cemetery’s visitors could provide enough offerings to complete his Spendthrift System task in four days—and that the underworld money could also strengthen his soul and A Fei.
  • The next day, a messenger summons Chen Feng to meet the Hungry Ghost King and demands that he bring the day’s offerings. Chen Feng suspects the Ghost King’s hierarchy claims all such money. Rather than provoke a stronger enemy, he decides to comply, gather information, and prepare for a later confrontation.

Character development and interactions

  • Chen Feng remains resourceful and pragmatic. He misjudges the Fire Ghost’s matchup against the Water Ghost, but takes responsibility for the summon’s loss and quickly changes tactics, killing the Fire Ghost himself. He also chooses caution over immediate rebellion when faced with the Ghost King’s demand.
  • A Fei worries that the group cannot beat the Fire Ghost, then recognizes why Chen Feng stopped at Cihang Bridge when the Water Ghost appears.
  • Brother Dao is known and mocked as a notorious figure in Cihang City. He explains what others know about the Water Ghost and later comforts Chen Feng without pretending the summon’s death was not his fault.
  • The Fire Ghost is cruel and self-serving: he consumes strong ghosts rather than risk having capable subordinates, and treats violence as routine. His confidence collapses when the Water Ghost appears, but he regains control after exploiting the Water Ghost’s corpse oil—only to be killed by Chen Feng.

Significant themes

  • Strength and hierarchy: Ghosts grow stronger by consuming other ghosts or collecting underworld money, but powerful leaders control these resources and demand tribute.
  • Strategy and adaptation: Chen Feng’s victory comes not from his failed elemental matchup, but from abandoning the expected duel and using his own magic.
  • Power’s cost: The Water Ghost’s defeat and the cemetery gang’s initial reluctance to kill contrast sharply with the Fire Ghost’s willingness to destroy opponents.
  • Caution versus ambition: Chen Feng sees the cemetery as a source of wealth and growth, yet recognizes that challenging the Ghost King before he is ready could be disastrous.

Ch. 112Each With Their Own Agenda

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng, Brother Dao, and A Fei take the Ghost Subway to the Hungry Ghost King’s territory. Poison Ghost boards and kills five living passengers with poison; Stink Ghost then dissolves their bodies with corrosive sludge.
  • At Hungry Ghost Station, Chen Feng meets the other local ghost leaders. He hides his identity by claiming he is “Poor Ghost,” the successor who defeated Fire Ghost.
  • The messenger announces that the search for a powerful reborn superhuman has intensified: ghosts must now report anyone killed by a superhuman. Chen Feng realizes his past actions—including the massacre at Lewd Village and his killing of Bull Face—may have drawn attention. He suspects Cihang Bodhisattva concealed evidence by ambushing the investigators.
  • Chen Feng is assigned Fire Ghost’s former territory, Fortune and Longevity Cemetery, but must hand over its income to the Hungry Ghost King. The King reveals himself as the mountain and instantly kills Big-Mouth Ghost for stealing from him. Chen Feng’s system rates the King at eight stars, far beyond his expectations.
  • On the way back, Greedy Ghost proposes robbing another boss’s money shipment. Chen Feng agrees, while privately planning to betray Greedy Ghost afterward.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng stays outwardly sociable and composed while calculating risks and opportunities. His confidence in defeating the local ghosts collapses when he sees the Hungry Ghost King’s immense power; he also recognizes that Cihang Bodhisattva has been protecting him indirectly.
  • Greedy Ghost acts friendly and cooperative but intends to use Chen Feng as a scapegoat. Chen Feng mirrors the deception, intending to take Greedy Ghost’s money and abilities for himself.
  • Poison Ghost is openly hostile and complains about the investigation and extra work. Her history of killing and her appetite for corpses establish her as dangerous and repellent.
  • Stink Ghost shows how grotesque and lethal the local ghosts can be, casually melting corpses. Thorn Ghost postures arrogantly despite being weaker than the other leaders.
  • Brother Dao warns Chen Feng about Poison Ghost and introduces the group’s members. A Fei is startled by Poison Ghost’s effortless killing, recognizing her as an expert.
  • The Hungry Ghost King’s execution of Big-Mouth Ghost makes clear that the leaders are not safe from their ruler’s control.

Significant themes

  • Deception and self-interest: Nearly every character conceals their real motives; apparent warmth masks plans for betrayal.
  • Escalating danger: Chen Feng’s assumptions about the power scale are overturned by the King’s eight-star rating.
  • Consequences and surveillance: Past violence leaves traces, and the ghosts’ reporting system threatens to expose Chen Feng’s identity.
  • Power and coercion: The Hungry Ghost King controls his subordinates through mandatory payments and immediate, brutal punishment.

Ch. 113Robbery Has a Queue Too?

Plot points

  • Greedy Ghost proposes robbing the Ghost King’s share of the offerings at Station Eight during the Ghost Festival, when the money is delivered. He and Chen Feng agree to strike on April Fifth.
  • In the two months before the raid, Chen Feng replaces Fire Ghost’s former followers with loyal Motorcycle Ghosts. A Fei grows to three stars and loses his fire weakness after learning Fire Ghost’s skill.
  • Chen Feng, Brother Dao, Greedy Ghost, and the mercenary Black Hand plan to attack Station Eight at midnight. Greedy Ghost intends to blame the robbery on weak Taoists—or, failing that, on the reincarnator, whom ghosts have apparently used as a scapegoat before.
  • The group storms the station and kills its couriers. As the raid unfolds, a second crew—Poison Ghost, Stink Ghost, and Thorn Ghost—arrives through the rear entrance, apparently to rob the same place. Chen Feng greets them with dry amusement.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng takes charge of the operation and builds a loyal force, but remains wary of Greedy Ghost’s motives and Black Hand’s power. He also learns that the reincarnator has been blamed for past crimes, suggesting he may be a convenient target.
  • Greedy Ghost is shown as a calculating planner: he times the raid around the festival, recruits Black Hand, and arranges a scapegoat strategy.
  • Brother Dao shares his history as a former Ghost King courier dismissed for weakness. Chen Feng privately regards him as genuinely inept, despite his grand ambition to challenge the Ghost King someday.
  • A Fei has strengthened under Chen Feng’s help and displays his fire ability during the raid.
  • Black Hand, a powerful five-star ghost, is revealed to be ruthless and mercenary; he openly says he will take down even a Heaven King for enough money.
  • The arrival of Poison, Stink, and Thorn Ghosts turns the planned robbery into an unexpected confrontation between rival crews.

Significant themes

  • Greed and ambition: The festival’s offerings tempt multiple groups into risking everything for wealth.
  • Betrayal and scapegoating: Ghosts manipulate blame to protect themselves, and Chen Feng may be framed as the reincarnator.
  • Power and loyalty: Chen Feng strengthens his position by replacing unreliable followers with loyal ones, while Black Hand’s allegiance depends only on payment.
  • Dark comedy: The grand robbery is undercut by petty scheming, Brother Dao’s weakness, and the absurdly casual discovery that another crew has come to steal the same money.

Ch. 114The Whole Station Was in Chaos

Plot points and events

  • Chen Feng and the Greedy Ghost’s crew encounter three rival ghosts—the Thorn Ghost, Stink Ghost, and Poison Ghost—who also want to rob the Underworld Bank. Negotiations fail, and the Black Hand attacks.
  • The Thorn Ghost and Stink Ghost are killed by the Black Hand, though the Stink Ghost’s corrosive mud injures him and destroys one of his legs. Chen Feng and A Fei help finish off the Stink Ghost, earning a Stink Stone and a Black Mud Bomb skill manual.
  • When the Poison Ghost tries to flee, Chen Feng distracts the Black Hand by offering him a larger share, then kills the Poison Ghost with an arrow. Chen Feng gains a Poison Stone and a Poison Mist skill manual.
  • A letter reveals that the Heaven King, Human King, and Beast King intend to overthrow the Ghost King. Chen Feng realizes his cultivation teachings helped strengthen the Heaven King’s followers, contributing to the threat.
  • The three kings arrive at the station, followed by the nine-star Hell King. The robbery suddenly becomes the scene of a much larger confrontation.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng is pragmatic and opportunistic: he avoids unnecessary fighting when the money will satisfy his goal, bargains to manage the Black Hand, and takes the Poison Ghost’s kill by exploiting the Black Hand’s greed.
  • The Black Hand shows overwhelming power but is injured by the Stink Ghost and becomes fixated on compensation. His rivalry with the invading ghosts makes him an uneasy ally of Chen Feng.
  • The Greedy Ghost remains focused on the robbery until the letter exposes the political crisis, leaving him terrified by the kings’ arrival.
  • The Heaven King’s rise is indirectly tied to Chen Feng’s actions: Chen Feng’s cultivation lessons created more failed tribulation survivors, bolstering the Heaven King’s forces and helping set the rebellion in motion.
  • Chen Feng responds to the apparent disaster with excitement rather than fear, treating the escalating chaos as an opportunity.

Significant themes

  • Greed and opportunism: Characters bargain over shares, kills, and compensation, while Chen Feng turns others’ motives to his advantage.
  • Unintended consequences: Chen Feng’s efforts to disrupt the Great Yokai’s control have helped create a power shift that may destabilize the underworld.
  • Escalating chaos: A bank robbery grows into a potential war among powerful rulers, with each new revelation raising the stakes.

Ch. 115Not One of Them Was Human

Plot and key events

  • Chen Feng’s group arrives at the subway entrance with stolen spirit money, where the Heaven, Human, and Beast Kings are confronting the Hell King. Chen Feng explains that his party is stealing from the Ghost King while the three kings are rebelling, and the sides agree to focus on their shared enemy.
  • The Hell King’s overwhelming yin energy destroys Brother Dao and several lesser ghosts. She kills the fleeing Greedy Ghost, then fights all three kings at once, apparently without taking damage.
  • Black Hand’s Soul Detonation has no effect on the Hell King. He realizes she has a physical body, not merely a ghostly form. When the Beast King manifests and lands a punch, the Hell King’s disguise breaks.
  • Chen Feng recognizes the body as Meng Chengcheng. The Heaven King identifies the situation as possession, while Chen Feng infers that Meng’s Medium abilities let her host the Hell King without the usual bodily rejection. With her secret exposed, the Hell King begins losing to the three kings.
  • Chen Feng gathers money and prepares to leave, but a Taoist arrives riding a Coin Sword. Chen Feng realizes he is the prisoner who learned the Mayfly Record. The Taoist has survived its fatal flaw, evaded the city’s Great Yokai and tribulation lightning, and discovered a way to continue cultivating. His sword attack devastates the ghosts.
  • Chen Feng tries to complete his system mission by refining the stolen money, but receives no Points. He recognizes the bills as freshly printed “Dead Money” and realizes someone swapped the usable money out before the heist.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng uses humor and quick reasoning to interpret the shifting alliances, figures out the Hell King’s possession of Meng Chengcheng, and is impressed by the Taoist’s independent cultivation breakthrough. His confidence collapses into fury when the stolen cash proves worthless.
  • The three kings begin as a fragile coalition but coordinate against the Hell King. Their inability to hurt her is explained by her physical body; once the Beast King strikes her in manifested form, the balance shifts.
  • Black Hand makes the crucial deduction that the Hell King has a body, but she kills him immediately after he reveals it.
  • Meng Chengcheng / the Hell King is revealed to be a human Medium possessed by a powerful ghost. Her ability to accommodate souls explains how the possession can persist.
  • The Golden Coin Taoist emerges as a formidable cultivator who has overcome the Mayfly Record’s apparent fatal flaw through insight and experimentation. His arrival turns an already dangerous confrontation into a greater threat for Chen Feng and the other ghosts.
  • A Fei looks to Chen Feng for reassurance as the Taoist’s sword energy begins destroying ghosts; Chen Feng admits he can endure only another minute, and A Fei dies.

Significant themes

  • Betrayal and unreliable appearances: Alliances are temporary, the Hell King’s ghostly appearance hides a human body, and the stolen money is counterfeit in usefulness.
  • Ingenuity and adaptation: Chen Feng reasons through supernatural mechanics, while the Taoist surpasses the limits of a flawed cultivation art through independent discovery.
  • Power and vulnerability: The rules governing ghosts and humans determine who can harm whom; a hidden physical body changes the course of a seemingly one-sided battle.
  • Cynicism and survival: Chen Feng treats danger with jokes and opportunism, but the chapter ends by reinforcing his belief that Cihang City is full of deception.

Ch. 116Farming! Farming!

Key plot points

  • Chen Feng summons A Fei, who no longer remembers him but instinctively feels he should call him “big bro.” Chen Feng confirms that their master-servant bond survived his save reload.
  • His system inventory now includes A Fei as a ghost servant, new stones and skills, and 16 permanent System Points.
  • Chen Feng rejects the Honor of Kings Store System, unwilling to spend valuable System Points on shop items, and unlocks the Farming System instead.
  • The Farming System lets him upgrade parts of the Happiness Internet Cafe into cultivation facilities and defensive features. After weighing the options, Chen Feng chooses the Spirit Herb Garden because it will yield a new spirit plant after every save reload.
  • The balcony transforms into fertile, spirit-rich soil, producing a Spirit Ginseng that can extend life or be refined into pills with several healing benefits. Chen Feng wonders why he should risk alchemy when he can eat it directly; the systems offer conflicting advice about playing it safe versus going all in.
  • A vibration from the Chat Group signals that powerful figures from the City World and game world have arrived.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng’s relief at A Fei’s successful summoning shows how much he values their bond, even though A Fei’s memories are gone. He introduces him to the cafe regulars as his scooter-riding cousin.
  • Chen Feng feels at home among the cafe’s familiar occupants, contrasting its warmth with the scheming outside. His practical, resource-conscious side guides his system choices.
  • He considers Old Wolf’s needs, but prioritizes the Spirit Herb Garden’s lasting value over the Soul Hall that would help A Fei cultivate faster.
  • The Farming System gives cautious warnings about alchemy, while the Equipment Enhancement System urges him to take risks, prompting Chen Feng to tell it to be quiet.

Significant themes

  • Home and belonging: The cafe feels like family to Chen Feng, and he hopes to welcome A Fei into that circle.
  • Planning for the future: Chen Feng favors upgrades whose benefits will accumulate across repeated saves.
  • Practicality versus risk: The ginseng can be eaten safely or processed for greater potential rewards at the risk of failure.
  • Power-building through ordinary work: Farming turns the humble cafe balcony into a source of spiritual resources and future growth.

Ch. 117City World and Gaming Heavyweights

Plot points and events

  • The Demon Venerable greets the chat group according to his estimate of each member’s strength, placing Netherworld Star and the Corpse Emperor at the top.
  • Netherworld Star apologizes for failing to stop the consciousness-form enemy, but checks that Chen Feng is safe. Chen explains that he killed Bull Face by striking with Heavenly Thunder after Netherworld Star weakened the enemy and helped him regain control of his body.
  • The group worries about Chen’s reckless risk-taking. Meanwhile, the War Marshal—apparently influenced by a possessing god—keeps asking for women to join the group, prompting Chen to shut down the increasingly exaggerated demands.
  • Two new members arrive: Cosmic Overlord from City World and Wutian Buddha from the game dimension.
  • In City World, a transmigrator has become the Cosmic Overlord, a supposedly unmatched space-faring conqueror. Realizing his fleet is approaching Earth, he panics at the prospect of meeting its terrifying heroes and orders the expedition turned back.
  • In the game dimension, another transmigrator awakens in a Journey to the West–inspired game world. He learns that his former self helped arrange Sun Wukong’s death and recognizes the game-like health and mana bars above him. A black lotus and his role as the plot’s mastermind lead him to suspect he is Wutian Buddha.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng remains the group’s comparatively inexperienced leader, but his survival and decisive counterattack earn concern and respect from the others.
  • Netherworld Star shows accountability and concern, admitting the enemy escaped and asking after Chen.
  • The King of the Monsters cautions Chen against repeatedly risking his life.
  • The Demon Venerable reveals his status-conscious view of the group, while his excitement over the next recruits suggests he expects his own standing to improve.
  • The Cosmic Overlord shifts from yearning for a worthy opponent to avoiding Earth altogether after inheriting the captain’s identity and realizing how dangerous the destination is.
  • Wutian Buddha discovers that his new identity is tied to a villainous plan against Sun Wukong and begins piecing together his role from his memories and surroundings.
  • The War Marshal’s crude requests clash with Chen’s attempts to keep the group conversation focused, providing comic friction.

Significant themes

  • Reputation versus reality: Members rank one another by perceived power, while the newcomers’ worlds reveal dangers that outsiders may badly underestimate.
  • Transmigration and identity: Both new arrivals must interpret inherited memories, unfamiliar roles, and worlds that resemble stories or games.
  • Fear of overwhelming power: The Cosmic Overlord’s confidence collapses when he understands the dangers awaiting him on Earth.
  • Risk, responsibility, and camaraderie: The group’s concern for Chen contrasts with his willingness to gamble his life, while humor and concern coexist in their chat.

Ch. 118Super Jackpot

Key plot points and events

  • New group-chat members arrive: Wutian Buddha, from a Journey to the West game world, and the Cosmic Overlord, whose setting appears to be a space-faring superhero universe. Wutian says he is the final boss and has inherited a situation in which Monkey King has been taken apart.
  • Wutian decides to stop acting evil and live peacefully, though he worries his past actions may still bring the Heavenly Court and Spirit Mountain after him.
  • Chen Feng warns the Cosmic Overlord that his world may resemble Marvel, One-Punch Man, or Dragon Ball. The Overlord responds by training, and his status indicates that his strength is doubling.
  • The King of the Monsters asks the Overlord to use the Dragon Balls to help him. His familiar misfortune soon strikes again: he is beaten up and temporarily goes offline.
  • Chen Feng asks the group how to deal with the Ghost King. The Demon Venerable suggests Chen Feng’s Ten Thousand Souls Banner, but it is too powerful for Chen Feng to use safely. The Ancient Dragon provides anti-undead prayers, which Chen Feng cannot use without faith, and then gives him a death spell that summons wraiths.
  • The Ancient Dragon asks Chen Feng for two student athletes in return. Chen Feng learns the Dragon’s Kindling Rite is still weak but ongoing. After the Dragon confidently insists he will not be targeted again, someone arrives at his door and his status changes back to undergoing the rite.
  • Chen Feng considers three Hextech upgrades for his next run: a free shop item, one system-box reroll, or improved execution effects plus extra points for killing new bosses. He struggles to choose.
  • Meanwhile, Netherworld Star reveals he ate two-thirds of Bull Face, leaving the demon weakened. At a Cihang City lottery shop, a mysterious woman presses Bull Face to choose a prize—and says she has already found the grand prize she wants.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Feng acts as the group’s practical mediator: he calms the anxious Demon Venerable, teases the new arrivals, seeks help against the Ghost King, and weighs his next strategic upgrade.
  • Wutian Buddha hopes to avoid the usual villain’s defeat by choosing a peaceful life, but doubts whether he can escape consequences for what was done before his arrival.
  • The Cosmic Overlord is introduced as humorous and immensely powerful; Chen Feng’s warnings prompt him to train, with apparently extraordinary results.
  • The King of the Monsters remains a comic figure whose attempts to seek help are interrupted by his recurring beatings.
  • The Ancient Dragon contributes useful magic but keeps changing his elaborate title, demands payment, and is apparently pulled back into the Kindling Rite despite his confidence.
  • Bull Face is weakened by Netherworld Star’s appetite and becomes entangled with a mysterious customer whose intentions are unclear.

Significant themes

  • Power and vulnerability: Characters may possess extraordinary abilities yet remain threatened by their worlds, systems, or circumstances.
  • Fate versus choice: Wutian tries to avoid his villainous role, while the Cosmic Overlord’s possible destiny is framed through familiar genre outcomes.
  • Game-like progression: Systems, points, upgrades, and status messages shape characters’ decisions and create ongoing uncertainty.
  • Humor amid danger: The chapter uses teasing, misfortune, and absurd bargains to balance serious threats such as the Ghost King and the Kindling Rite.
  • Trust and obligation: Group members help one another, but assistance often comes with conditions or comic costs.

Ch. 119Foundation Establishment Success

Chapter Summary: “Foundation Establishment Success”

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Feng enters Cihang City’s Fourth Prison and searches for a gifted prisoner who might help him keep the Great Yokai occupied. He identifies Mu Hao, a young man whose unusual talent and sharp eyes match Chen Feng’s memory of a remarkable cultivator.
  • After learning that Mu Hao is a serial killer, Chen Feng questions him. Mu Hao says he kills for fun, with no grudge, profit, or tragic past to explain it. Chen Feng concludes that Mu Hao is irredeemably dangerous and decides not to recruit him as an ally.
  • Instead, Chen Feng plans to give Mu Hao the subsidiary Invincible Heaven Art. He intends to let Mu Hao’s talent carry him to the Golden Core Stage, then use the paired Heaven-Sent Enemy Art to drain his cultivation and gain greater benefits.
  • Six months later, Chen Feng begins his Foundation Establishment tribulation at the ruined Cihang Temple. He chooses the site partly because Cihang Bodhisattva might shield him if the Great Yokai appears.
  • Chen Feng wants to avoid using the Mysterious Tortoise Longevity Art to withstand the lightning, since doing so could cost him hundreds of years of life. He activates a cybernetic body made by Mr. Qipa instead.
  • The device successfully absorbs the Tribulation Lightning. Chen Feng emerges with his body and Primordial Spirit tempered, his Divine Sense greatly expanded, and his Foundation Establishment achieved.

Character developments

  • Chen Feng remains ambitious and calculating. He weighs people according to their usefulness, abandons the possibility of befriending Mu Hao, and plans to exploit his talent for personal gain. His successful breakthrough also reinforces his confidence in mixing cultivation with technology.
  • Mu Hao is revealed as a cheerful, unapologetic serial killer. He embraces living without hesitation or regret, believing that people can die at any time. His unsettling clarity about life contrasts with his lack of moral restraint.
  • Mr. Qipa is praised indirectly through the cybernetic body he constructed from a blueprint; his technological work proves powerful enough to withstand heavenly tribulation.
  • Cihang Bodhisattva remains a potential protector, though Chen Feng’s appeal to her is framed as an attempt to get something back after benefiting from her before.

Significant themes

  • Talent versus morality: Mu Hao’s exceptional potential does not make him trustworthy; Chen Feng sees his genius and his evil as separate facts.
  • Death and living without regret: Mu Hao’s philosophy urges decisive action, but his interpretation turns that freedom into cruelty.
  • Technology and cultivation: The cybernetic body succeeds where traditional defensive cultivation would exact a steep cost, suggesting that technology can function as a new kind of cultivation tool.
  • Ambition and exploitation: Chen Feng’s pursuit of power drives both his plan for Mu Hao and his willingness to use Cihang Bodhisattva as protection.

Character interactions

  • Chen Feng questions a prison guard about Mu Hao’s crimes, then confronts Mu Hao directly about his motives. Their exchange exposes Mu Hao’s cheerful amorality and convinces Chen Feng that he cannot safely be treated as a conventional ally.
  • Chen Feng invokes Cihang Bodhisattva while preparing for tribulation, hoping her presence will help shield him from the Great Yokai.
  • Chen Feng’s success also depends on Mr. Qipa’s engineering: the cybernetic body protects him through every strike of Tribulation Lightning.

Ch. 120Fighting Me?

  • After reaching Foundation Establishment, Chen Feng decides his poor natural aptitude makes ordinary cultivation a dead end. He spends ten Points to unlock the Foundation Establishment chapter of the Heaven-Sent Enemy Art, which requires him to absorb cultivation from a “vessel”—meaning Mu Hao, not Chen Feng. The Proficiency System lashes itself in frustration, then temporarily shuts down to upgrade. Chen Feng also discovers that the Demon Venerable’s sword, movement, and martial techniques may now be accessible through the Chat Group files.
  • Chen Feng turns to his long-delayed plan to kill the Ghost King. He reviews the many factions involved and recruits the Black Hand, while arranging for his Holy Cow Cult to collect and burn ghost money. Over six months, he completes the Spendthrift mission and strengthens his ghost allies, including the Water Ghost.
  • Expecting the Hell King to target the Medium Meng Chengcheng during a Deity-Invoking Ritual, Chen Feng warns and prepares her. When the ritual begins, he and Old Wolf follow her to the Hell King’s forest shrine. Chen Feng reassures her in his blunt, intimidating way: he will kill the Hell King, and she is “what it takes.”
  • The Hell King possesses Meng Chengcheng, leaving him vulnerable. Chen Feng attacks with soul-targeting Ancient Death Wraiths. The Black Hand joins the fight, followed by the eight-star Water Ghost, which summons rain and wind. When the Ghost Messengers threaten to overwhelm them, Chen Feng calls in A Fei and his truck-driving crew, who crush the spirits and knock the Hell King out of Meng Chengcheng.
  • Chen Feng stops A Fei from finishing the Hell King: he needs the Ghost King’s whereabouts, and wants to avoid leaving Cihang Bodhisattva with another Yaksha after a future Load Save. The Hell King initially refuses to betray his master, but Chen Feng uses Vengeful Spirit Magic to make him admit he wants to live. By granting that wish, Chen Feng activates the Ghost-Catching System and subdues the Hell King.
Character developments and interactions: Chen Feng is increasingly confident and pragmatic, preferring displays of force to persuasion; he also shows strategic restraint by capturing rather than killing the Hell King. Meng Chengcheng trusts his warning despite being frightened, while the Black Hand proves a loyal mercenary ally and the Water Ghost and A Fei demonstrate the power of Chen Feng’s upgraded followers. The Hell King’s fierce loyalty gives way to self-preservation under torture.
Themes: The chapter contrasts innate talent with system-enabled advancement, and mixes supernatural horror with slapstick comedy. It also emphasizes manipulation, preparation, and the tactical use of alliances: Chen Feng wins not through strength alone, but by planning for the ritual, assembling allies, and exploiting the Hell King’s vulnerability.
