Ch. 1My Biological Father and the Reborn
- Plot points: Fourteen-year-old Wu Bai is berated by his father for his cultivation progress, despite reaching the ninth stage of Dou Qi. His father favors Wu Bai’s older and younger brothers, blames Wu Bai for a major financial loss, and has cut off his cultivation resources. Feeling trapped, Wu Bai decides his best chance of escape is to reach Dou Zhe. That night, the pebble he has been polishing produces the spirit of an old man, who reveals that Wu Bai cannot fool him. Wu Bai immediately kneels and offers himself as a student, unsure whether the stranger will spare him. The old man accepts him.
- Character development: Wu Bai is resentful and hurt by his family’s rejection, but he is also pragmatic, self-aware, and willing to seize an opportunity. He recognizes how powerless he is and treats the old man’s arrival as a possible way out. The old man is initially bewildered by his revival, then amused by Wu Bai’s bold directness and considers their mysterious connection significant.
- Character interactions: Wu Bai’s father insults and compares him unfavorably with his brothers; his mother is described as helpless, while his brothers watch without intervening. The chapter’s pivotal interaction is between Wu Bai and the revived old man: Wu Bai makes a calculated show of respect, and the old man responds by taking him as a disciple.
- Themes: Family favoritism and emotional neglect, the frustration of being powerless, self-preservation, and the possibility of escape through cultivation and mentorship.
