The Demon Race elders watched as the light of the Demon Race Sacred Relic swallowed Nan Xun. Wu Che was among them, and astonishment was all that remained in their eyes.
Soon, the most senior elder dropped to his knees, tears streaming down his face. "Our people are saved," he murmured. "Saved at last..."
As he knelt, the other elders exchanged glances, then fell to their knees as well and bowed in reverence.
Only Wu Che remained standing, his body as rigid as stone. This was not what he had expected. He had thought that, with the Heavenly Source Divine Wood behind him, Nan Xun could enjoy a brief moment of triumph. Wu Che had already made arrangements throughout the Demon Race. Even if he had to let Nan Xun become Demon King for the sake of the Heavenly Source Divine Wood, he could soon make Nan Xun the next former king.
The rise and fall of the Demon Race had to rest in his hands, not in those of Nan Xun, a Half-Demon who was nothing at all.
But now Nan Xun had not only the Heavenly Source Divine Wood, but also the recognition of the Demon Race Sacred Relic. Back then, Wu Che himself had merely inherited memories from the sacred relic and, through good fortune, gained a slight boost to his Bloodline power. His experience was worlds apart from Nan Xun's.
What was he supposed to do?
The commotion from the sacred relic was too great. Its soaring light pierced the Barrier, then the Protective Formation around the Demon Race's territory, and lit half the sky above Demon Glow Forest. It was as though the light meant for everyone beneath heaven to witness this moment: after thousands of years, a king of the Demon Race had appeared.
