Qiao Ranran desperately wanted to complain: Wasn't he afraid I'd forget?
This rickety Library Pavilion had half its body buried in the ground. What floor had she entered on?
The third floor, on the left, the fourth bookshelf, the second shelf. Before Qiao Ranran found it, she had doubted she would find anything at all. The shelves she passed were piled haphazardly with books and Jade Slips of every material. There was no order, no clue—just years of neglect and chaotic management.
The only good thing was the absence of dust thick enough to blot out the sky or cobwebs that made every step a struggle. Messy as they were, everything stayed firmly on the shelves. The wooden floor was clean but weathered, heavy with the weight of years.
And on the shelf Cen Xian had directed her to, there was only one book. A faint halo shimmered over its pale blue cover.
It was neither the heavenly book she had imagined might record her "story," nor her original target, the Soul-Chasing Scripture. It was a Cultivation Method, with several large characters on the cover: Water-Wood Spirit Essence.
Qiao Ranran had Water-Wood Dual Spirit Roots, but their purity was low—not even as high as that of many three- or four-root cultivators. She could barely cultivate, and her progress was much slower. The Cultivation Method before her, however, suited her perfectly. Water and wood nurtured each other, and every advancement in the method would refine the purity of her Spirit Roots. At higher levels, they could even rival the purity of a single Spirit Root, or a Heavenly Spirit Root!
Qiao Ranran looked over the method's records, cultivation process, power, and so on. As for the grand pie it painted for her, she supposed she could accept it.
Something was better
