Time rewound to a few moments earlier.

Little Moon sat on Lin Yuan's shoulder. The instant the Titan Giant Ape appeared, she wrapped both little hands around his head and curiously studied the enormous creature. She found this big fellow fascinating, her little face full of curiosity, without a trace of fear.

While everyone was panicking, Little Moon's figure flickered slightly, and the human and Guga vanished from the spot.

Teleportation.

Elsewhere in the Star Dou Great Forest, moonlight spilled through gaps in the canopy, illuminating a clearing.

Halfway through his pursuit, Tang San encountered a huge black spider that sprang from the dense woods—a thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider. Its eight long legs were bent and razor-sharp, and the white markings on its lower abdomen formed a hideous human face. Eight small, purple-glowing eyes fixed coldly on him. Two of them had already been smashed, and several cracks marred its carapace. Someone had wounded this Man Faced Demon Spider before.

Tang San's heart tightened. Grandmaster had said that a Man Faced Demon Spider would be ideal for his third soul ring, but finding one was a matter of chance, and even if he did, he must not fight it recklessly. It could release webs instantly, its long legs carried deadly venom, and it moved with astonishing speed. Among soul beasts of the same level, it had virtually no natural predators.

The Man Faced Demon Spider moved first. All eight legs pushed off at once, sending its enormous body lunging at him like lightning, its two front legs stabbing straight toward Tang San's chest. Tang San dodged sideways and wrapped Blue Silver Grass around its legs, only for the vines to be severed the moment they took hold. He retreated three steps, but the Man Faced Demon Spider pursued relentlessly. A web erupted from its abdomen and spread over him, blotting out the sky.

Tang San rolled across the ground. The web skimmed past his back and stuck to a tree trunk behind him, making the bark hiss as it corroded.

He sprang to his feet and stopped retreating. Turning his left hand over, he summoned a small black hammer into his palm—the Clear Sky Hammer. Though it had no soul rings attached, its weight and power were still astonishing. As he poured soul power into it, the little hammer instantly grew, dark blue light flowing across its head.

The Man Faced Demon Spider thrust all eight long legs down, intending to pin him to the ground.

Tang San swung his left hand with all his strength, smashing the Clear Sky Hammer into the Man Faced Demon Spider's chest. With a muffled bang, its descending body was knocked upward instead. Though its chest armor remained intact, its entire torso lost its balance, and all eight legs flailed in midair.

Tang San gave it no chance to land. His right hand had already drawn a black box and pulled its trigger.

Sixteen dark streaks shot out, piercing the Man Faced Demon Spider's six remaining eyes and even driving into its two ruined eye sockets.

The Man Faced Demon Spider let out a piercing screech. Its massive body crashed to the ground and thrashed wildly, pulverizing trees within a dozen meters and corroding the vegetation into black liquid. Tang San rolled clear, then collapsed as his legs gave out, gasping for breath. That hammer strike had drained all his soul power, and even the hand holding the black box was trembling.

Only after a long while did the thrashing gradually stop, purple-black fluid continuously leaking from its eyes. Blue-violet light gathered above the corpse—a soul ring.

Tang San could not spare time to catch his breath. He sat cross-legged, focused his mind, and began absorbing the thousand-year soul ring.

Soul power circulated through his body, drawing the soul ring's energy into his martial soul bit by bit. He was completely immersed in the absorption process, oblivious to everything around him.

Just then, the spider's corpse twitched slightly. Eight pitch-black lances slowly emerged from its back, each marked with purple patterns, their sharp tips gleaming coldly in the moonlight. The Eight Spider Lances, an external soul bone, were being drawn by the soul ring's energy, floating toward Tang San on their own.

Tang San remained utterly focused, his brows tightly furrowed as he devoted all his effort to guiding the soul ring's energy, unaware of what was about to happen.

Just as the Eight Spider Lances were about to touch Tang San's body,

a tiny white figure appeared out of thin air before him.

Little Moon.

She reached out with both little hands and grabbed the lance that was about to touch Tang San.

With a pop,

she plucked the Eight Spider Lances clean out of midair.

Still immersed in absorbing the soul ring, Tang San frowned slightly, but soon relaxed again and continued taking in its energy.

Little Moon crouched nearby, gripping a black spider leg longer than her body in both little hands. She turned it over and examined it, disgust written all over her little face.

"So ugly, Guga."

Lin Yuan walked out of the darkness, moonlight falling across the side of his face. He reached out and took the Eight Spider Lances, glanced at them, then casually put them into his soul tool.

Little Moon looked down at her little hands, which were smeared with slime from the spider leg. She frowned and rubbed them against Lin Yuan's clothes. Only once they were clean did she nod in satisfaction.

Lin Yuan looked down at the two damp little handprints on his clothes. The corner of his mouth twitched, and he flicked Little Moon's forehead.

Little Moon covered her forehead and gave an aggrieved little huff.

Lin Yuan pushed off the ground and activated the Blue Silver Emperor Leg Bone. Pale blue light shone from his leg as he rose into the air and flew swiftly in the direction the Titan Giant Ape had disappeared.

Little Moon sat on his shoulder, grumbling as she rubbed her forehead.

Before long, an enormous dark silhouette appeared ahead.

The Titan Giant Ape.

He stood in a clearing, seemingly sensing something. His enormous body paused slightly before he slowly turned around.

Two bright yellow lights shone in the darkness, locking onto Lin Yuan's direction.

He raised a massive fist and hurled a punch at him.

The wind from the punch howled with enough force to topple mountains and overturn seas, compressing even the air into something solid. Layers of water screens and earthen walls appeared out of nowhere before Lin Yuan. Boom! The earthen walls shattered and the water screens shook violently, but they firmly blocked the punch.

Xuanwu Guga appeared before Lin Yuan, her tiny body hovering in midair, both little hands still held in the pose of casting her technique. She looked up to find the Titan Giant Ape's mountain-sized silhouette looking down at her.

Xuanwu Guga shrank back, then whipped around. Grabbing Lin Yuan's trouser leg with both little hands, she scrambled up using all four limbs and burrowed into his arms. She clung tightly to his neck and buried her entire face in his chest.

Lin Yuan glanced down at her and patted her back.

The Titan Giant Ape froze.

He looked down at the human child before him, a flicker of surprise crossing his face.

The Titan Giant Ape gave a low growl and was about to raise his hand again.

"Er Ming, stop!"

A clear voice rang out.

Xiao Wu jumped down from the Titan Giant Ape's shoulder and hurried forward, placing herself in front of Lin Yuan with her arms spread wide. "Er Ming! He's my friend! You're not allowed to hurt him!"

The Titan Giant Ape looked down at her, a low rumble of displeasure rising from his throat. Still, he withdrew his fist, took a step back, and plopped down on the ground. His enormous body remained seated there, motionless.

Xiao Wu let out a breath of relief and turned to Lin Yuan, a complicated expression on her face.

"You... why did you follow me here?"

Lin Yuan descended from the air and stood before her, looking at her in silence for several seconds.

"Xiao Wu, I know what you are."

Xiao Wu's smile froze on her face.

The night wind swept through the woods, stirring the ends of her hair. She stood there, her whole body rigid.

"You... what did you say?" Her voice trembled slightly.

"A hundred-thousand-year soul beast who took human form."
