A wizard's duel was a formal battle between two wizards, arranged in advance and witnessed by others, in which any spell could be used, including the Dark Arts.
Before the duel began, both sides had to face their opponent and bow as a sign of respect before assuming the standard dueling stance.
Once the referee declared the start, the two duelists would officially begin fighting.
The victory conditions for a wizard's duel were also simple and brutal.
As long as one side disarmed, knocked out, or killed the other, or forced their opponent to surrender voluntarily, they would win.
As for the dueling assistants, if one of the duelists died, their assistant would take their place.
But for first-year young wizards, aside from a certain Dumbledore, at most they could only fire a few harmless little sparks at each other.
The chances of anyone dying were extremely, extremely low.
Unless Ron was crazy enough to borrow Heaven Destroyer and Earth Destroyer from his two older brothers and unload on Draco.
