The Descent of God

Li Changqing watched Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue embrace, his heart pounding. He could hardly be blamed; the sight before him was so overwhelming that any man would have struggled to keep his composure.

He said calmly, "Qian Renxue, before we begin, I can tell you a secret. Want to hear it?"

Qian Renxue gritted her teeth. "What secret?"

Li Changqing's lips curled. "The secret of why Bibi Dong doesn't love you, won't acknowledge you as her daughter, and hates you so much."

At those words, the anger in Bibi Dong's eyes vanished, replaced by sheer terror. "No! Please, don't tell her!"

She turned to Qian Renxue. "Xiao Xue, no. Whatever you do, don't listen!"

What Li Changqing had offered was the answer Qian Renxue had always sought. Seeing Bibi Dong's reaction, she made up her mind.

"Tell me! I want to know!"

A wicked smile crossed Li Changqing's face as he walked toward the large bed. "Because what I'm about to do to you is exactly what Qian Xunji did to Bibi Dong back then. Do you understand now?"

Qian Renxue froze. She looked at Bibi Dong, her voice hollow. "So that's it. So that's why you hate me so much..."

Bibi Dong was no longer agitated. She seemed calm now, almost relieved, as she quietly gazed at Qian Renxue.

But despair had left both their eyes. In its place was the relief of a misunderstanding finally resolved after years, and they looked at each other with love.

Li Changqing rubbed his chin as he watched the mother and daughter. He couldn't make sense of them.
