Ch. 161Rampage Across the Capital
Plot points and events
- Shukaku forms and fires a Tailed Beast Bomb at the Daimyo’s Mansion, threatening the Land of Wind’s leadership and Sunagakure’s political and financial support.
- Rasa raises a massive Gold Dust barrier to stop it. The blast destroys the barrier and badly injures him, but the mansion survives.
- Shukaku continues his rampage, crushing streets and buildings and using a powerful wind attack to devastate several blocks. Civilians flee through the burning city.
- Sasori’s advancing puppets are destroyed by the blast’s shock wave, leaving him furious.
- Uchiha En dismisses his Shadow Clone, appears between Shukaku and the fighting, and calmly orders Sasori to keep Rasa occupied.
Character developments and interactions
- Rasa risks himself to protect the Daimyo’s Mansion, driven both by concern for Sunagakure’s ties to the Land of Wind and the prospect of lost military funding. He succeeds, but suffers serious internal injuries.
- Shukaku is portrayed as gleefully destructive, treating the destruction and terror as a game.
- Sasori reacts with cold anger when the blast ruins the puppets he painstakingly made.
- En’s sudden, composed arrival shifts the focus of the battle. Gāngtài is stunned to see him, while En ignores the others and gives Sasori a direct order.
- Civilians who had earlier called the red-haired boy a monster now confront the reality of a genuine monster’s attack, underscoring their vulnerability and fear.
Significant themes
- The cost of war: The attack devastates the city and destroys lives and livelihoods, not just military targets.
- Duty and political dependence: Rasa’s defense of the mansion reflects Sunagakure’s reliance on the Land of Wind’s support.
- Irony and judgment: The crowd’s earlier condemnation of an innocent child contrasts with the true horror Shukaku brings.
- Control amid chaos: Rasa’s desperate defense and En’s calm intervention stand against Shukaku’s uncontrolled destruction.
