Holding Morgan, Lin Yi slowly descended to the ground. As soon as her feet touched the soil, Morgan darted toward Tony at the doorway like she was acting spoiled—this was her signature tactic.
"Daddy! Boss finished doing what he promised me! The sky is so much fun!"
Great, she started by seizing the initiative and flipping the blame right back onto him.
"You..." Tony was momentarily speechless, quickly giving Morgan a head-to-toe inspection. Only after confirming she was unharmed did he let out a sigh of relief, then glare at Lin Yi.
"How many times do I have to tell you, don't take her on such dangerous rides! Did you forget the number one rule in the ban handbook?"
Lin Yi spread his hands. "Mr. Stark, I only took Morgan out to experience the Clean-Powered Auxiliary Levitation Experience, and I didn't violate the rule against flying into the sky!"
"Besides, didn't Morgan just say it? This fulfilled the thing you promised her. Seriously, you should be thanking me!"
Joking aside, before transmigrating, Lin Yi was a veteran high-intensity internet surfer; when it came to playing shameless and arguing online, he considered himself undefeated.
Tony choked. Indeed, he had never won an argument against Lin Yi. Compared to his mind-boggling array of abilities, his skill with his tongue was even more formidable!
Just as he wanted to retort with a couple of lines, he heard the sound of a car engine approaching.
Turning his head, a car with multiple-circle logo drove slowly down the path and stopped right in front of Tony's wooden cabin.
The car door opened, and a few exceptionally familiar faces stepped out.
They were the ones Lin Yi had seen before: Black Widow, Captain America, Banner in his merged Hulk state, and a looking exceptionally foolish Ant-Man, Scott Lang. Lin Yi finally remembered his name.
Lin Yi felt a stir in his heart, silently thinking to himself that they had arrived.
Just a few days after transmigrating here, he had pinned down the exact timeline. It was right after Thanos snapped his fingers and subsequently destroyed the Infinity Stones.
He used to suspect whether his transmigration was an accident caused by the destruction of the Infinity Stones. But upon careful thought, he figured it was impossible for the Infinity Stones to affect things outside the fourth wall, so the reason behind his transmigration remained a mystery to this day.
Natasha and the others walked toward Tony, and the atmosphere grew somewhat subtle.
"Tony..." Steve swept his gaze over the group, his tone heavy.
"Captain, Natasha, what wind blew you guys over?" Tony nodded, his expression revealing neither joy nor anger.
"We have important things to discuss with you." Natasha stepped forward, her gaze pausing briefly on Lin Yi and Morgan before she gave a slight nod in greeting.
Her expression was just as serious as Steve's, but she was exceptionally spirited, and beneath the fatigue, a hint of excitement could be felt.
Tony was silent for a moment before letting out an imperceptible frown. "Come inside to talk."
He stepped aside, pushing Morgan toward Lin Yi. "Lin, take Morgan inside first and get her something to drink."
Understanding dawned on Lin Yi, and he took Morgan's hand. "Let's go, Morgan. Looks like your daddy has things to busy himself with!"
Morgan nodded without the slightest hesitation. She didn't know what it was about, she only knew that she had escaped a lecture from daddy.
But Lin Yi knew all too well why these people had come. The moment he saw Scott Lang, he knew that the plot of Avengers: Endgame had officially begun.
At this time, Ant-Man had just emerged from the Quantum Realm not long ago. To Scott inside the Quantum Realm, five years had merely been five hours.
Their visit today was to discuss things with Tony, carrying the hope of time-heist.
The door closed, cutting off most of the sound.
Morgan hugged her juice cup and tugged on Lin Yi. "Boss, can we fly another circle tomorrow?"
"Fly again?" Lin Yi immediately refused, extending a finger to point outside the window.
"No more flying. I'm guessing your daddy's mood won't be very good these next two days, so you'd better not provoke him."
Little Morgan poked her head out to look. At five years old, she was already capable of sensing the emotional changes in adults.
She recognized all of them except for that gesticulating, exceptionally excited, funny-looking man she didn't know.
Morgan turned to Lin Yi with some worry. "Are they here to fight with daddy?"
"A fight isn't going to happen. They're here to ask your daddy for help. But then again, with your daddy's temper, he probably won't agree so easily," Lin Yi mused.
Little Morgan was puzzled. "Why?"
Why?
Morgan didn't know, but Lin Yi had watched the movies. Ever since defeating Thanos, Tony had stepped back from most Avengers activities.
He had dealt with all kinds of disasters, worrying himself over too many things—among them even aliens, and catastrophes of cosmic proportions.
Now he was tired and only wanted to guard Morgan and Pepper to live a peaceful life.
Thinking of this, Lin Yi glanced at little Morgan and chuckled softly.
"Your daddy's got something tying down his heart, so his guts have shrunk!"
This remark happened to be heard by Pepper as she walked in. She cast Lin Yi a helpless look. "Lin, don't teach Morgan these things."
Lin Yi immediately raised his hands in surrender and made a zipping motion over his mouth.
About half an hour later, Natasha, Steve, and the others left, their retreating figures appearing somewhat desolate.
Tony stood at the doorway, watching the car drive far away, remaining motionless for a long while.
After a good while, he turned and walked back inside, his complexion looking rather poor.
Pepper took Morgan by the hand, conversing softly with Tony for a few moments before leading Morgan off to rest.
Rubbing the bridge of his nose, Tony walked over to the sofa and sat across from Lin Yi.
"Did you go spouting nonsense to Morgan again just now?" His tone held a hint of complaint, though there wasn't really any blame in it.
Lin Yi spread his hands. "I was merely stating an objective fact, you see. A man with a household naturally has many more concerns~"
"You heard all of that?" Tony felt a mild headache coming on; his thoughts were in complete disarray right now.
Lin Yi didn't deny it. Even without using super hearing, his five senses were far beyond those of ordinary people. Besides, even if he hadn't heard, the movies told him roughly what they had discussed.
Tony was still replaying the conversation just now, a sense of irritation rising from the bottom of his heart. Not even sitting for two full minutes, he stood up and walked over to the window.
Gazing out at the tranquil lake, a gentle breeze swept across, kicking up a trace of ripples that allowed Tony to calm down slightly.
"I'm not saying... I'm scared or anything like that."
"Time travel, easy to say, it's completely impossible..."
Lin Yi curled his lips. He wasn't very keen on counseling this fellow. After all, once Tony calmed down, he would naturally figure things out and make a decision.
Still, considering Morgan and the fact that he hadn't collected rent for five years, Lin Yi picked up his juice cup and brushed past Tony, casually dropping a light-as-air remark: "The appearance of Scott Lang is already enough to prove a few things, isn't it?"
Tony was looking for excuses to convince himself not to risk his life anymore; what he wanted to do was protect the present.
Yet once hope appeared, lighting up the entire starry sky was simply a matter of time.
"Scott Lang's situation is just an anomaly. Do you think stabilizing an anomaly like that is as simple as washing a juice cup?" Tony searched for excuses for himself.
Lin Yi washed the juice cup and placed it on the cup holder to the side. Next to the cup holder stood a picture frame.
In the photo, Peter Parker was smiling brightly.
"The appearance of Iron Man was also an anomaly, wasn't it?" Lin Yi countered.
Tony was stunned for a moment, his lips moving as he didn't quite know what to say.
Unable to bear this heavy atmosphere, Lin Yi gave Tony's shoulder a heavy pat.
"I'm not saying these things to emotionally blackmail you or anything. There will come a time when you see the light, and you'll make the right decision too."
"Regardless of whatever decision you make, there's no right or wrong to it."
"You know my abilities. If you need anything, just speak up—consider it the rent for these past five years."
