Chapter 1: I, Naruto Uzumaki, Will Never Be a Saint
"Get lost, Demon Fox! I won't sell anything to you here! You jinx!"
A bulky, middle-aged man shoved Naruto Uzumaki to the ground, looking at him with utter disgust.
"This Demon Fox should be killed. It's a pity the Third Hokage is too kind."
"Twelve years ago, my parents died at the hands of the Demon Fox. If the Fourth Hokage hadn't sacrificed himself, I probably would have died long ago, too."
"Hurry up and get lost! Not a single person in the whole of Konoha will sell you anything! Damn Demon Fox!"
Insults and scolding echoed from the surrounding villagers, feeling like sharp knives stabbing into Naruto's heart one by one.
Naruto was pushed to the ground, looking expressionlessly at the man while letting out a sigh in his heart:
As expected, just like the Naruto in the original work, it's very hard for me to buy food. I'm afraid the only way is to steal it or go catch fish in the river myself.
Obviously, the Naruto before him had long since been replaced by a Naruto fan from Earth.
At the time, while playing a Naruto mobile game, he had dizzily selected an option—not knowing whether it was 1 or 2—in a pop-up dialog box called the Fate Choice System.
Then, he had dizzily become Naruto Uzumaki.
And within the half-hour since his transmigration, he had fully experienced the feeling of being spurned by everyone around him.
This feeling was terrible, making him extremely stifled, as if a volcano were about to erupt inside his chest.
"Ding-dong! Fate Choice System loaded."
"Novice mission issued: solve the food problem."
"One, Saint choice: beg the bulky boss, asking him to take pity on you and sell you some food.
Reward: one [Saint Halo]."
"Two, Demon choice: retaliate against the bulky boss who bullied you, meeting violence with violence.
Reward: [Deidara's Explosion Release Kekkei Genkai]."
Naruto blankly stared at the Fate Choice System in his mind, raising an eyebrow. Could this be the culprit that made him transmigrate to this world?
He felt depressed in his heart, and his stomach let out another growling sound. By now, he was starving, so he had no choice but to say to the bulky boss and the surrounding villagers:
"I'm really not a Demon Fox. Think about it, if I were a Demon Fox, why wouldn't I just eat you guys? Why would I even bother buying food from you?"
"That's because the great Third Hokage already subdued you, so you can't transform into the Demon Fox's form anymore!"
"Right! But you're still the damn Demon Fox, and the Demon Fox should be executed!"
The onlookers' insults rang out again, completely ignoring Naruto's explanation.
The bulky boss of the shop, however, wore a sneer at the corner of his mouth as he turned back into the shop, fetched a carton of milk, and handed it to Naruto.
Seeing this, Naruto was overjoyed, standing up with a grateful expression. He bowed to the bulky boss and reached out with both hands to take the milk.
An incredulous murmur swept through the surrounding villagers.
Right at that moment, the bulky boss jerked his body, turned around, and poured the milk straight into a broken bowl nearby.
Naruto recognized that bowl; it belonged to a small dog the man kept.
"Shouldn't a Demon Fox eat with all four paws on the ground? Why don't you go lick the milk clean out of this bowl?" the bulky boss sneered as he looked at Naruto.
"Hahaha!"
"Look at him, he's just like a dog!"
"Go on and eat, Demon Fox, hurry up!"
Peals of laughter and mockery from the villagers echoed again.
Naruto's posture of bowing and reaching out to receive the milk froze in place, his face flushed red with intense anger.
He looked at the system interface in his mind and made his second choice without any hesitation.
"Ding-dong! Congratulations to the host for making a choice. Reward: [Deidara's Explosion Release Kekkei Genkai]! Please complete the mission within one day, or the reward will be reclaimed!"
"Ding-dong! Once the host completes this novice mission, there will be a special reward."
Naruto glanced at the ugly expressions of the surrounding villagers, committing each of their faces to memory and engraving them in his mind.
Then he stood up from the ground, his right hand casually grabbing a handful of dirt, and turned to walk toward his home.
According to his memories, Naruto's home was right across from the shop, in a dilapidated two-story building.
He lived alone in the entire building, but only the room in the very corner of the second floor belonged to him.
Starving, he heated up the only remaining carton of expired milk in the house and drank it down.
After that, there was no other food left.
Even this milk was something the previous Naruto had stolen from the shop across the street, for which he had been severely beaten by the bulky boss.
Soon, night fell.
Naruto Uzumaki lay on his bed, recalled his brief and failed life in his previous existence, and bade it farewell:
Since I can't go back anyway, from now on, I am Naruto Uzumaki, and Naruto Uzumaki is me!
It was the sixtieth year of Konoha, when the plot began, and tomorrow was the Ninja Academy graduation exam.
For him now, trying to mend the fold after the sheep were lost and intensify his cultivation was already impossible.
Furthermore, he had important things to do tonight.
Five hours later, the night grew even deeper, and the entire Konoha village fell into silence.
Naruto lay on his bed with his hands hidden under the covers. On the palm of each hand was a ferocious mouth, which was heavily chewing the dirt he had previously scooped up from the ground and turning it into special explosive clay.
Deidara's Explosion Release mixed his own chakra into ordinary dirt through the special large mouths on the palms of his hands to obtain white explosive clay, then crafted the explosive clay into various flexible animals, and finally used these clay animals to explode and attack enemies.
Now, after five hours of production, fifty tiny clay ants had been created.
Although the mere thought of the chubby boss's atrocious attitude toward him during the day made his anger unbearable, he still decided to spare his life and give the other party a profound lesson first, especially since he had never killed anyone before.
Thus, he dispatched only thirty clay ants, which crept through the gaps in the floor, one after another, drilling out the door and into the opposite shop.
This shop was located in the front yard of the house, and the chubby boss who bullied Naruto lived in the backyard.
Naruto first concentrated all fifteen clay ants in the front yard, then hid his head under the covers and let out an excited, low shout:
"Art is an Explosion!"
"BOOM!"
The front shop opposite was blown directly to flat ground!
All the glass in Naruto's house was shattered, but he did not care at all. Pretending to be panicked, he stood up, ran out the door, and checked the effects of his explosion.
Seeing the chubby boss run out of his backyard home bare-bottomed and crying over the ruins of his shop, he felt a twinge of sympathy in his heart.
He felt that what he had done might have been a bit excessive; there was no need to actually blow up the shop—scaring the chubby boss would have been enough.
In his past life, he was a model citizen who had never done anything to bully others.
Although this explosion did not hurt anyone, it still startled the entire Konoha village, which had enjoyed peace for a long time.
The Third Hokage rushed over at top speed, but instead of showing himself, he first conversed with the Anbu Ninja monitoring Naruto and discovered that the Jinchūriki had no abnormalities, which finally set his mind at ease.
"How is it that your shop exploded at night just after you bullied Naruto this afternoon? Could someone be fighting back on Naruto's behalf?"
Some villagers whispered to the chubby boss.
At this remark, the surrounding villagers also began to guess.
The chubby boss looked up in some fear toward the second floor opposite, and seeing Naruto looking at him with a calm expression, he panicked and quickly withdrew his gaze.
The Third Hokage in the shadows frowned deeply, having just thought of this possibility himself and pondering who might have done such a thing.
Hearing what the villagers said, Naruto felt a surge of joy, thinking that his purpose had been achieved and that others would no longer bully him in the future, so he prepared to turn around and go back to sleep.
At this moment, the villagers downstairs continued to discuss.
"Nonsense! If someone were really fighting back on that demon fox's behalf, why wouldn't they just bring the demon fox some food?"
"Exactly, exactly! That demon fox is a curse anyway. Have you forgotten that twelve years ago, he almost destroyed the entire Konoha village?"
"That's right, I said this afternoon not to let that demon fox near your shop. See, I was right; your shop blew up tonight!"
"Why didn't this explosion blow that demon fox to death?!"
"We'll go find Lord Hokage tomorrow and ask him to execute that demon fox! Lord Hokage is so kind, he'll definitely agree."
Listening to the persuasion of the surrounding villagers, the chubby boss no longer felt fear; instead, anger surged up, and he pointed at Naruto on the upstairs opposite and cursed loudly:
"Damn demon fox! It's all your fault, you jinx! I'm coming over to your house to beat you up tomorrow morning!"
The Third Hokage stood in the shadows, remaining indifferent to the villagers' insults toward Naruto, and instead closely observed Naruto's reaction.
Naturally, he would not be influenced by the villagers' rhetoric because he knew that Anbu Ninjas were always monitoring around Naruto, and others simply had no opportunity to bring food to Naruto.
As for Naruto, who had just turned around to go back to his room to sleep, upon hearing the insults of the surrounding villagers and the chubby boss, he lowered his head, took a step forward, and plunged his entire body into the darkness.
He did not want anyone to see the ferocious look on his face at that moment!
