Old Monk Chongming froze slightly.
Then, a relieved and gratified smile appeared on his face.
"Amitabha!"
He called out a Buddhist invocation, and his body gradually began to turn transparent.
The tiger demon was dead. Naturally, he had broken free from the Changling Ghost's restraints and was about to vanish between heaven and earth.
Qin Zheng held the Ghost-Head Saber as he watched this scene, his heart stirring faintly.
Just then, the Merit Scroll within his mind trembled slightly.
At once, specks of golden light could be seen raining down above the old monk's head, completely enveloping him.
His dim and translucent soul body began to gleam with golden light once more.
Sensing this change, the old monk froze again. Then he looked toward Qin Zheng, and there was an added trace of gratitude in his eyes.
He pressed his palms together and bowed to Qin Zheng before slowly vanishing between heaven and earth.
"Namo Amitabhaya Tathagata..."
Qin Zheng planted the Ghost-Head Saber into the mud beside him, pressed his palms together, and chanted the sutra.
The old monk had spent half his life ferrying departed souls. Now, it was finally his own turn.
As Qin Zheng chanted the Buddhist scriptures.
Situ Qing and his group of five hurried over as well.
The old monk and tiger demon had moved too quickly. Even Qin Zheng had only arrived at the final moment.
Then he had severed the tiger demon's head with a single strike, without the slightest hesitation.
The five of them had been a step too late. When they arrived, all they saw was a ferocious tiger head nearly half the size of a man, severed and lying on the ground.
