The high school entrance exam was important to many students and parents.
Getting into a Magic high school could change the course of a student's life.
Awakening Magic and becoming a mage was every student's dream—and what every parent hoped for their child.
Once you became a mage, even if your talent was limited, your future was at least somewhat secure. Mages were guaranteed a decent income.
If you had a talent for cultivation, your prospects were brighter still. An Intermediate Mage could hold a high-ranking position in Bo City, let alone an Advanced Mage or a Super Mage.
Mo Xie rarely came to school, but this was the last day before the entrance exam. It would have felt wrong not to show up.
During morning reading, while everyone was focused on their books, Mo Xie slipped in through the back door.
He found his seat by the window in the last row.
As the saying went, the back row by the window was a king's domain!
Mo Xie was pleased with the spot. It wasn't the second-to-last row, but the one sitting in front of him was his silly little brother.
Looking at the familiar classroom and his classmates studying so earnestly, Mo Xie couldn't help smiling.
Now this was what student life should be like!
When morning reading ended, Mo Fan stretched comfortably. He was about to stand when he noticed someone behind him out of the corner of his eye.
He turned and stared in surprise at Mo Xie, who was slumped over his desk.
"Bro, what are you doing here?"
For some reason, the classroom was unusually quiet after morning reading. Without the usual chatter, Mo Fan's already loud voice carried across the entire room.
His classmates looked toward Mo Xie. With more than forty pairs of eyes on him, Mo Xie could already guess what was coming.
"Ah! Mo Xie's here!"
No one knew which girl shouted it, but the classroom erupted. Students surged toward Mo Xie like a tide.
The girls were especially fierce, charging in like bargain hunters at a clearance sale. It was terrifying!
Mo Fan, sitting beside him, was easily shoved aside and swallowed by the crowd.
"Mo Xie, take a photo with me and give me your autograph!"
"Mo Xie, when's your new album coming out? I've been waiting forever!"
"Evil Emperor, your concert the other day was incredible! It's a shame I couldn't get a ticket. Could you save me one next time? I really want to go!"
"Mo Xie, do you need a girlfriend? Big sis here can do anything~"
"Hey, where did you come from? Stay away from my Mo Xie!"
"Mo Xie, Mommy loves you!"
A male fan had declared his burning love for all to hear.
Every classmate crowded around Mo Xie. Students from other classes heard the commotion and rushed in too, until Class Four of the ninth grade was packed so tightly no one could get through.
"Phew! I finally made it out!"
Mo Fan crawled out of the crowd in a sorry state. He brushed off his pants, stood up, and spotted Mu Bai beside him with his arms folded.
"What, did you just crawl out too?"
"I wasn't as helpless as you," Mu Bai said with an irritated look. "I got out ages ago. It's called thinking ahead."
"My brother's charm is as terrifying as ever!"
Mo Fan watched Zhang Xiaohou and Zhao Kunsan still floundering in the sea of people and sighed.
"You get used to it."
Only after the homeroom teachers joined forces to disperse the crowd was Mo Xie finally freed.
Mo Xie let out a long breath. That male fan had been so enthusiastic that Mo Xie had been afraid he might drag him away.
"Mo Xie, you should've told us you were coming. We could've taken precautions."
Their homeroom teacher, Deng Yongchuan, walked over with a broad smile.
To Deng Yongchuan, Mo Xie was a treasure—his proudest student. He couldn't let anything happen to him.
Apart from the commotion after morning reading, Mo Xie's day was fairly peaceful. That was, if he didn't count all the photos and autographs.
In the last class before school ended, their homeroom teacher spoke at length, mostly reminiscing about their three years together.
As Deng Yongchuan spoke, tears began to run down his face. Some of the more sentimental students cried too.
Watching them, Mo Xie felt that teachers' feelings for their students were often the purest. They were always thinking of what was best for them.
When school let out, the students shouldered their bags and streamed out through the gates.
"Brother Xie, Brother Fan, how about we grab a meal after school?" Zhang Xiaohou asked as he came over with his backpack.
"Sure." Mo Fan nodded, then turned to Mo Xie. "Bro, are you coming?"
"Yeah." Mo Xie turned to Mu Bai. "How about you, Mu Bai?"
"Mm."
"Great. I know a place with amazing food. Let's go there," Zhao Kunsan suggested.
"Okay. I'll take Xin Xia home first. Send me the location in a bit."
Mo Xie left ahead of the others to take Ye Xinxia home.
The five of them didn't head their separate ways until eight that evening.
When Mo Xie got home, he didn't rest. Instead, he got busy again.
A classmate had reminded him that day that he still hadn't finished preparing his new album.
He had promised his fans a new album at his last Concert. Mo Xie didn't want to become the kind of person he hated most: someone who made promises but never released any music.
He worked until around nine thirty before finally stopping.
"Zero, sorry to leave the rest to you." Mo Xie stretched as he spoke to Zero.
[Understood.]
Without Zero's help, Mo Xie couldn't have managed it so easily.
He hadn't founded an entertainment company. He had simply opened an online studio, where his name was the only contribution he made. Zero handled everything else.
As a result, the public called Mo Xie the purest kind of musician, and his reputation soared.
The truth was that Mo Xie simply found it all too much trouble. He had never expected an offhand decision to become one of his most admired qualities.
Mo Xie trusted Zero to take care of things. He turned off the study light and could finally get some proper rest.
He headed straight for his bedroom, only to hear a string of curses from inside.
"Damn it, jungler, follow me! We lost the dragon! What the hell? Where's our marksman? We lost the base tower! Damn it, there goes another star. I—"
Mo Fan looked toward the door when he heard it open.
Mo Xie stood leaning against the doorframe, his face dark and his eyes fixed on him.
Mo Fan jolted so hard he nearly fell off the bed.
"Hah. Sounds like you were having fun."
Mo Xie's gaze was icy, and so was his voice.
"B-Bro, what are you doing here?" Mo Fan asked stiffly.
Seeing his little brother like that, Mo Xie sighed helplessly.
“The entrance exam's tomorrow. Don't tell me you're going to fail to get into a single Magic high school.”
Mo Fan scratched the back of his head and gave a dry laugh. “Don't worry, Bro. I promise I'll get into a Magic high school. You'll see.”
Mo Xie smiled helplessly, stepped forward, and flicked Mo Fan's forehead with two fingers, as practiced as ever.
"Ow!" Mo Fan yelped. "Bro! Why do you always have to flick my forehead?"
Mo Xie smiled, waved a hand, and walked out.
"Get to sleep early. Good night. Sweet dreams."
"I know. Good night. And I hardly ever dream, okay?"
After closing the door, Mo Xie thought for a moment.
Yeah, I'm definitely not obsessed with my little brother.
"Brother Mo Xie!"
A sweet voice rang out, full of delight, breaking the silence.
Mo Xie turned toward it. Ye Xinxia sat in her wheelchair, smiling sweetly at him.
Her long black hair cascaded to her slender waist, with a few drops of water still clinging to it. She must have just taken a bath.
"Brother Mo Xie, you should get some rest too. Don't let it affect your exam tomorrow."
“I know. You don't need to worry about my grades. Xiao Fan's the one you should worry about.”
"Oh, then—"
"Good night. Sweet dreams."
"Good night. Sweet dreams."
