The Wrong Magic Awakening

A black sedan wove through traffic and finally stopped beneath a skyscraper.

A black-clad security guard stationed at the entrance hurried over, opened the rear door, and bowed respectfully.

Mo Xie stepped out in casual clothes, followed by a bewildered Mo Fan.

The guard gestured ahead and led Mo Xie and Mo Fan into the building.

As soon as Mo Xie entered the lobby, the staff passing by nodded and greeted him. The female employees restrained themselves from coming over to bother him.

Mo Xie returned every greeting, all the way to the elevator.

Only after they stepped into the enclosed elevator did Mo Fan recover from his daze.

"Look at you. You've never seen anything like this before, have you?"

Mo Xie couldn't resist teasing him.

"Bro, why does everyone treat you with so much respect? Do you have some kind of special status?"

Mo Fan deliberately lowered his voice, as though afraid someone might overhear.

"I'm a major client of this company. Of course they have to treat me respectfully, or they might lose a big deal."

"Oh, I see."

Mo Fan nodded. It made sense, given how much money his brother had.

He's so easy to fool... Mo Xie chuckled softly.

He didn't want to reveal the truth so soon. Being a major client was just a cover. He wasn't a client at all—the entire building belonged to him.

Mo Xie had given everyone a heads-up the night before: he was bringing his younger brother over, and they were to keep his identity secret.

That had to be hard on the female employees. Who knew how much they were suffering?

The elevator doors opened onto a space much like the ground floor. A red carpet ran straight across the floor toward a room in the distance.

An enormous LCD screen hung overhead in the lavish hall, and rows of reserved seats lined the carpet.

Despite the size of the place, not a soul was in sight.

Mo Xie had cleared it out in advance, of course. He didn't want a noisy crowd waiting when he arrived.

Mo Fan stepped out of the elevator and looked around curiously.

Mo Xie walked along the red carpet toward a nearby counter.

The woman behind the counter wore a striking red qipao. When she saw Mo Xie approach, she rose and bowed.

She folded her hands over her abdomen, and as she bent forward, the qipao accentuated her tall figure.

The high slit offered glimpses of her long, shapely legs in nude stockings. Her hair fell loose around a delicate, oval face. She was a rare beauty!

"Bo—Mr. Mo, we received your reservation last night. The Awakening Room is ready. Would you like a Guiding Stone?"

The woman in the qipao flipped through her notebook, then looked up with a charming smile.

"Yes. Please set up a Lightning Element Guiding Stone."

"The Lightning Element?!"

Mo Fan had just walked over and caught their conversation. He cried out in surprise.

He glanced at the woman, hurriedly pulled Mo Xie aside, and lowered his voice.

"Bro, isn't a Lightning Element Guiding Stone too expensive?"

Mo Fan had heard of Guiding Stones. They could greatly increase a mage's chances of awakening the element they wanted.

Guiding Stones varied in price by element, and the Lightning Element was naturally the most expensive of the elemental magic types.

"Didn't I tell you not to worry about money? Since you're here for your Magic Awakening, you might as well choose the best."

Mo Xie smiled and patted Mo Fan on the head.

"Okay. I'll listen to you, Bro. The Lightning Element it is."

The woman nodded with a smile, left the counter, and walked toward the distant room.

It didn't take long to prepare the Lightning Element Guiding Stone. Soon, the woman returned with graceful steps and bowed to Mo Xie.

"Mr. Mo, the Lightning Element Guiding Stone is ready. The Magic Awakening can begin whenever you like."

"Go on in, Mo Fan. Just place your hand on the Awakening Stone and clear your mind."

Mo Xie patted Mo Fan on the shoulder and explained the process while he was at it.

Mo Fan nodded and headed for the Awakening Room at the end of the red carpet.

As soon as the Awakening Room door closed, the woman in the qipao let out a long breath, dropping her poised manner and professional smile.

"Boss, how did I do? Was my acting any good?"

She shot Mo Xie a flirtatious look and laughed behind her hand.

Unlike her professional smile earlier, this one was genuine.

"Jiayu, you're exaggerating. Wasn't that just like receiving any other guest? What acting?"

"It's different! Keeping my distance from you is way too hard, Boss!"

Is it really that hard...? Mo Xie rolled his eyes.

He knew his looks caused him plenty of trouble, but surely she didn't have to exaggerate that much.

The woman in the qipao was Lin Jiayu. Like Jiang Ya, she was one of Chenxi's earliest employees.

She might have been working the counter, but she was actually Chenxi's HR manager and oversaw its Magic Awakening operations.

Working the counter was just how she passed the time. Lin Jiayu excelled at dealing with people and had led several of Chenxi's major diplomatic projects to success. She and Jiang Ya were among Mo Xie's most capable assistants.

The elevator chimed, and its doors slowly opened. Jiang Ya hurried over in high heels, her legs clad in black stockings.

"Boss, here are the materials for crafting Magic Tools you asked me to collect, along with some Demon Beast hide, Exotic Bone, and the like. Sorry for the trouble, but could you check them?"

Jiang Ya handed Mo Xie a tablet displaying the materials' names, pictures, and quantities.

Magic Tools were linked to a person's soul and had to be activated before use. In this world, only the exotic hides, bones, claws, scales, and feathers of Demon Beasts carried energy capable of fusing with a human soul.

That was why countless hunter mages kept hunting in the wild: to obtain materials that could be forged into Magic Tools and linked to a person's soul.

Mo Xie swiped through the tablet, gave it a quick glance, and returned it to Jiang Ya.

"Thanks for the effort, Jiang Ya. Please have these materials delivered to my home."

Jiang Ya nodded earnestly, never taking her eyes off Mo Xie.

Lin Jiayu noticed the tenderness in Jiang Ya's gaze and smiled to herself.

While the two women chatted with Mo Xie, the Awakening Room door opened and Mo Fan emerged.

The moment Jiang Ya and Lin Jiayu noticed the outsider, their captivating smiles vanished.

One resumed her serious, attentive expression; the other put her professional smile back on.

They change their expressions fast... Mo Xie couldn't help thinking.

Mo Fan wore a smile and had a spring in his step. His delight was plain to see.

The moment he spotted Mo Xie, he ran over, plainly eager to share his joy.

Mo Xie could tell from Mo Fan's excitement that it had worked. He saw no reason to stay, so he nodded to Jiang Ya and Lin Jiayu.

"In that case, I'll come back tonight to discuss the rest."

His meaning was clear: they weren't finished here, and he would return tonight.

Delighted to hear that Mo Xie would be back that evening, the two women bowed to see him off.

"Take care, Mr. Mo."

Mo Xie nodded and led Mo Fan into the elevator.

"Go on, tell me. You look like you're about to burst."

Mo Xie found Mo Fan's earlier struggle to hold back his news rather funny.

At Mo Xie's words, Mo Fan finally opened his tightly shut mouth and blurted out excitedly,

"Bro, guess what? I awakened the Lightning Element!"

"Mm."

"And that's not all. I awakened another element too!"

"Mm."

Awakening two elements was what Mo Xie had expected. There was nothing surprising about it.

"I awakened the Lightning Element and the Light Element!"
