At Jiang Shaojun's words, Mo Xie's pupils contracted in utter shock. He had never expected to find a lead on the Kui Ox.
The Classic of Mountains and Seas: Great Wilderness—East described it: "It resembles an ox, with a dark blue body, no horns, and a single leg. Whenever it enters or leaves the water, wind and rain follow. Its radiance is like the sun and moon, and its voice is like thunder. Its name is Kui, known as the Kui Ox."
The Kui Ox... it seems to be a lightning-attribute totem beast. How interesting.
Seeing both astonishment and recognition on Mo Xie's face, Jiang Shaojun found it very strange. He felt as though his own standing had been shaken, and asked in confusion.
"What, do you know about the Kui Ox too?"
Mo Xie came back to his senses and realized his reaction had been too exaggerated. With a sheepish smile, he put on a shocked expression and hastily replied.
"Uh... of course not. I'm just shocked that there's another totem beast."
This world apparently had no texts like the Classic of Mountains and Seas, so people did not know the names of certain totem beasts. They had only scattered bits of information, such as those concerning the Four Great Sacred Beasts.
The Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise... these four great totems were known to everyone. Some totem beasts were their descendants, with the Totem Black Snake being one example.
However, many other totem beasts did not belong to the Four Great Sacred Beasts' lineage. They existed outside it, as independent beings.
For example, the Qilin in the totem space within Mo Xie's mind, or... the Kui Ox they had just mentioned!
