Following Wang Xiaojun's directions, Mo Xie and the other two soon reached the forest and easily caught one of the Poison Rat Monsters he had described.
"A Plague Claw Rat!"
Leng Lingling knew Demon Beasts well. She recognized the Poison Rat Monster at a glance: it was a branch of the rat species that lived in burrows beneath forests, known as the Plague Claw Rat.
Plague Claw Rats ranked near the bottom even among Servant Level creatures. They were far weaker than the Giant-Eyed Blood Rats that had appeared in Bo City.
Time was short, so Leng Lingling dissected one of the Plague Claw Rats on the spot. She worked so deftly that Mo Fan and Wang Xiaojun exchanged strange looks. Neither could believe a girl in her early teens could do such a thing.
"Strange. It has Mutant Blood. Am I really that lucky?"
Leng Lingling frowned and murmured to herself. After a moment's thought, she looked up at Mo Fan, pointed deeper into the forest, and said,
"Catch a few more Plague Claw Rats. Kill them and see if they have Mutant Blood too."
Mo Fan nodded and did as she asked. At his current strength, dealing with Demon Beasts of this level took almost no effort.
What surprised him was that every Plague Claw Rat had Mutant Blood.
Mutant Blood appeared only a few drops at a time in every few dozen or even hundred Demon Beasts. It was an important material that was always in short supply.
Hunting Mages risked their lives killing Demon Beasts in the wild to obtain Mutant Blood, Exotic Bone, and exotic hide. The latter two were important materials for forging Magic Tools, while Mutant Blood had an even wider range of uses. Healing Blood Potions, for instance, were refined from it.
