Seen that way, Hyuga Hiashi was the one being a little petty.
He wanted to say something, but nothing came to mind, which only made him more frustrated.
Samui saw his expression and thought for a moment. "I know what I did before is hard to forgive, but I still hope you can believe I won't hurt Hinata again, Clan Head Hyuga. I came here to protect her."
She paused, as though she had found a better way to put it. "Besides, I'm here in Konoha now. What could I possibly do?"
Hiashi found himself even more at a loss for words. After thinking it over, he sighed. "Come in. I'll take you to her."
He turned and walked into the courtyard, his back looking faintly weary.
Chapter 709: Reassurance
Watching him walk away, Ino felt even guiltier. The first time she had met Hiashi, he had carried himself with a commanding presence.
Seeing him like this now was hard to bear. Samui still wore her usual cool expression; even though she felt awful inside, she kept it hidden in her eyes.
Hiashi had always believed Samui felt nothing more than guilt toward Hinata. Even so, he considered her a decent person.
Standing behind Hiashi, Samui hesitated for a long time before finally making up her mind.
"I'm sorry," she said softly to his back. She paused, then raised her voice, determination filling it. "I'm sorry. What happened put you in this position!"
Hiashi stopped in his tracks. He could hardly believe those words had come from the cool-faced Kumogakure ninja.
Yet those words brought him a sudden sense of release. "Forget it. Perhaps this was Hinata's fate. Even without you, she might not have escaped it. Fortunately, Lord Yin helped us, so we don't have to worry anymore."
