Chapter 782: Itachi's Defection
Even Uchiha Itachi was taken aback. He had only said it offhandedly, never expecting Obito Uchiha to agree so readily. Alongside his relief came an unease he could not explain. He feared something he knew nothing about was happening behind the scenes.
Yet Obito Uchiha really did leave without showing any intention of watching him. Strange as Itachi found it, he hurried back to Konoha. The most important thing now was to explain everything to Lord Uchiha Yin.
Itachi had prepared himself, but when the moment came, he still felt an inexplicable anxiety. He was not afraid of what lay ahead. He simply hated the thought of leaving Konoha after living there for so long.
Most of the day passed. By the time Itachi arrived at ANBU, it was already afternoon. He made arrangements for its affairs, but instead of going straight to Uchiha Yin, he went to the Uchiha Clan residence.
He could not tell his father, Uchiha Fugaku, about this, but he could at least say goodbye. Whether he would be able to return safely remained uncertain.
Even so, Itachi had no regrets. Obito had been right about one thing: Itachi did not want the world trapped in endless killing and war. He wanted peace—lasting, genuine peace!
Uchiha Fugaku was startled to see Itachi. His son was usually so busy that he rarely came home. This visit was completely unexpected.
Still, Fugaku was delighted. "Itachi, welcome home!" Itachi gave him a rare smile, though a trace of weariness lay beneath it. Fugaku did not notice.
Before leaving, Itachi also went to see Shisui Uchiha. He stood there for a long time, and only when darkness fell did he head to Uchiha Yin's home.
Itachi seldom visited Uchiha Yin at home. Unless something was especially
