Sharingan advancement belongs to individual clan members, not the clan as a whole.

History

Under policies attributed to the Second Hokage, the Uchiha were isolated from Konoha’s other ninja clans and remained outside the center of power, despite being described as its second-largest clan after the Senju 9. Danzo’s hostility was more explicit: he treated Kushina Uzumaki’s interest in Uchiha Yin as a clan plot to control the future Nine-Tails jinchūriki and ordered Yin watched 17.

After Yin used Susanoo while impersonating Madara, clan head Uchiha Ling recognized the technique from clan records. He hoped its user could restore knowledge of the Mangekyō Sharingan, which no clan member was known to have awakened since Madara’s departure 171. News of Mikoto’s Mangekyō later prompted the clan to recall her and Yin from the Sand front. Its leaders had previously paid them little attention after they became Tsunade’s apprentices 220 221.

The recall exposed competing interests within the clan. Ling and others sought the secret of Mikoto’s eyes, while Fugaku and Xiao both wanted to marry her; Mikoto instead openly chose Yin 224 225 232. Yin subsequently shared a theory about strengthening ocular power. Clan members began using genjutsu on themselves nightly after observing gains, although the practice had not produced a new Mangekyō user 285.

By the later war, most Uchiha favored closer ties with Konoha under Yin’s influence, while retaining their pride in the clan 715. As the Senju declined, the Uchiha claimed to be Konoha’s foremost clan. Their rivalry with the Hyuga persisted even as both clans served on the Kirigakure front 886.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan

• The clan’s Sharingan appears in one-, two-, and three-tomoe forms, followed in rare cases by the Mangekyō and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan 135 223 225 226.
• Its perception helps Mikoto track fast-moving attacks; Itachi uses it to copy an Earth Release technique 84 1258.
• Three-Tomoe users are described as having the potential to reach jonin rank, though awakening the eyes does not by itself guarantee victory 120 226.
• The Mangekyō can unlock Susanoo. Documented abilities differ by user: Yin uses Kamui and Amaterasu, while Mikoto awakens Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi 164 166 171 176.

Fire Release and genjutsu

• The Uchiha excel at Fire Release; techniques shown among clan members include the Great Fireball Technique and Fire Dragon Flame Bullet 87 229.
• Sharingan genjutsu is another clan specialty. Arashi attempts to combine a concealed illusion with a Fire Release attack against Yin 229.

Clan Structure and Relationships

• Uchiha Ling — clan head during Yin and Mikoto’s rise; seeks to restore Mangekyō knowledge and strengthen the clan 171 232.
• Uchiha Zhi — Third Elder and Mikoto’s father; takes Yin into his household after the deaths of Yin’s parents 23 54.
• Uchiha Yin — Fifth Elder whose battlefield reputation, ocular-power training advice, and influence improve the clan’s standing 285 428 715.
• Uchiha Fugaku — Ling’s son and a later clan head; serves on the Kirigakure front alongside the Hyuga 54 886 1450.
• Senju Clan — formerly Konoha’s foremost clan; its decline changes the Uchiha’s standing 9 886.
• Hyuga Clan — rival for the claim of Konoha’s leading clan, but also a wartime ally 886.

• Clan expectations for women are strongly patriarchal: after marriage, women are expected to stop taking missions and devote themselves to their household 224.
• Yin observes that many members seem cold outwardly but warm at heart; he also notes how fiercely they prioritize clan glory 220.
