Ch. 241Players: That breeding ability outplayed even us! (Bonus update for monthly votes)
Chapter summary
Plot and key events
- Twelve squads are sent to destroy the Life Devourers’ Flesh Carpet patches before they can merge. Each force combines elite players, Indigenous Soldiers, and Steel Warriors.
- Bombarding a patch triggers its defenses: it forms a protective Void Shield, then releases thousands of Warrior Forms. The creatures are far more numerous and powerful than expected because Kevin-9’s soil is rich in Void Abyss energy.
- The squads initially fight effectively, but enemy forces maneuver to encircle them. Their retreat becomes costly: 160 Indigenous Soldiers die, twenty Steel Warriors go missing, and 240 players are killed, including Pink Dagger. The Powered Armor troops escape without losses, and the Second Batch of players opens a route home.
- While the fighting has drawn attention south and west, the Life Devourers establish a huge northern infestation. In under two hours, the Flesh Carpet consumes much of the forest and river and produces more than 100,000 Warrior Forms.
- Captain Chuck Rhine reports that the Eastern Metropolis also needs help: the Life Devourers threaten its civilians, while the Shadow Legion’s Steel Claw Fourth Fleet and the Kage Pirate Group abduct people and plunder resources.
- Su Yi returns and orders the mothership into the planet’s atmosphere to provide transport, weapons support, and deterrence. Though the move risks dangerous magnetic-field resonance if the ships use their shields, Chuck agrees to proceed under the “Divine Tree Defense Plan.”
- The crisis worsens at Pioneer Square. Hundreds of thousands of Warrior Forms, Behemoths, flying units, and elite Super Warrior Bodies overwhelm the defenders. Behemoths launch flesh projectiles that release giant centipedes, killing more than a thousand Indigenous Soldiers and forcing players into close combat.
Character development and interactions
- Maria recognizes the initial enemy units and warns that attacking a Flesh Carpet will provoke a response. When the scale of the Warrior Form emergence becomes clear, she urges an immediate retreat.
- Winter directs the defense and orders the squads to withdraw once she and Maria recognize the danger of encirclement.
- The players begin confident and eager for battle, but the heavy losses and the enemy’s rapid expansion leave them frustrated and shocked. Little Panda is devastated by Pink Dagger’s death.
- Su Yi’s return restores the conference room’s confidence. He takes charge, persuades the cautious Chuck to commit the fleet, and frames the deployment as a test of loyalty.
- Chuck Rhine shifts from hesitation over the fleet’s safety to fierce commitment after Su Yi invokes the Goddess and the Rhine Family creed.
Significant themes
- Rapid, uncontrolled proliferation: The Life Devourers expand and generate combat forces at an astonishing rate, outpacing defenders’ ability to respond.
- Limits of firepower and preparation: Even effective weapons and skilled troops cannot compensate for a vast numerical disadvantage or a mistaken assessment of the threat.
- The cost of protecting others: The retreat and defense exact severe losses, while the Eastern Metropolis’s civilians and resources remain at risk.
- Loyalty and sacrifice: Su Yi mobilizes Chuck through devotion to the Goddess, while the soldiers and players continue fighting despite mounting casualties.
