Xu Feng took a step back, only to find himself pressed against a cold wall. By rights, there should have been a passageway behind him, not a wall.
A Ghost Wall?
Xu Feng opened the [Map]. It still showed him in the [Lost-Trace Forest].
So it was a Ghost Wall.
Before Xu Feng could find a way out, the arrival of an outsider alerted the ghosts—or rather, the Ghost Clerks. The ghostly energy here had almost taken on bizarre, shifting forms, spreading all around him. Where Xu Feng should have seen stone or earthen walls,
there were now closed windows. They were elaborate, like the large vermilion windows of ancient buildings he had seen on television. His previous life had been so hectic that he had barely traveled.
There were many things he had never seen with his own eyes.
Even these Ghost Clerks seemed arranged in strict order.
Their rank appeared to depend on their height.
At a glance, Xu Feng could not count how many ghosts filled this modest hall!
Rows of desks, and Ghost Clerks working at every one!
The Ghost Clerks wore tall hats and scholar's robes.
Yet every one of them was deeply uncanny.
Some shed waves of yin energy from their bodies.
Others had blue-purple faces. Some were even missing limbs, yet still held white jade tablets. Once they noticed Xu Feng, the shorter Ghost Clerks approached him.
Xu Feng's blade sensed the ghostly energy. It rang out on its own and slowly slid from its sheath.
Xu Feng gripped the hilt.
With the lantern extinguished, Xu Feng simply dropped it and grasped one of Daoist Chu's three command arrows.
Silently, he recited the Heavenly Venerable's Sacred Name and the name of the Longflow River God, asking the great gods for a little encouragement
