This was called gathering information.
Xu Feng lifted the door curtain and went in. The little restaurant was cramped and rather dark.
It wasn't mealtime. The people inside were washing vegetables and chatting.
Once inside, Xu Feng spotted a shrine there too.
Three sticks of incense stood in it, their smoke shifting into the shape of a request.
Again, it was asking for a sacrifice.
It was hungry and wanted to eat.
Seeing another request in this area, Xu Feng sensed an urgency.
Not the urgency of someone seeking comfort, but the urgency of whatever owned the incense offerings.
It seemed ravenous.
Faced with that message, Xu Feng had a thousand questions. He frowned.
"Who wants to eat?"
He thought back to what the Martial Madman had said about Grandpa Heaven and Grandpa Earth.
Who was Grandpa Heaven?
And what was Grandpa Earth?
After making his inquiries, Xu Feng headed back up the mountain!
He was laden with bags, as though returning from a market.
He had learned a little already.
What remained was to verify it. For one thing, he now knew that the Martial Madman's name was Wang Guan. Of the three names he had heard, Wang Guan's had been the last.
So all three names—the Great King, Song Chuming, and Wang Guan—meant something.
The Great King, for instance, was an old local god.
But the people there couldn't tell him anything more specific.
Another thing that put Xu Feng on alert was that a major geological disaster had once struck the former site of the Great King Temple.
A massive collapse.
Apparently, underground water had undermined the ground, causing the whole area to cave in. It had been a serious disaster, and many people had died.
That had been a long time ago, though.
