At this critical moment, Wang Dashe could no longer hesitate.
The last signs of life in Psykos were about to fade away.
Beneath Wang Dashe's bronze skin, something seemed to writhe like earthworms. Then several tentacle-like appendages broke through his skin and stretched toward Psykos.
More and more tentacles emerged. Soon they had engulfed Wang Dashe's entire body, leaving only his head exposed.
The mass of tentacles wrapped around Wang Dashe and the half of Psykos's body that remained, drawing them steadily closer.
Their bodies melded together. Wang Dashe's and Psykos's tissues underwent a bizarre process of dissolution, and as it progressed, the two fused into a new whole.
Throughout the process, Wang Dashe kept supplying energy to Psykos's body, slowly bringing her consciousness back.
"Teacher..." Pain crossed Wang Dashe's face. As Psykos awakened, he felt her consciousness pressing into his own.
"Dashe..." Psykos understood what was happening.
"Leave it to me, Dashe," Psykos said.
She had put it gently, but Wang Dashe understood what she meant.
Fusing their bodies could indeed save Psykos's life. Once they became one, though, only one consciousness could control the body.
Wang Dashe faced an agonizing choice.
He had never forgotten what Psykos had done for him, and he had long known the scale of her ambitions. But he still had someone else he cared about in this world.
Besides Psykos, his younger sister was precious to him.
And while Wang Dashe hesitated, Psykos fought relentlessly for control of their new body.
As a Psychic-Type Esper, Psykos had immense willpower. Without it, she could never have held on with only half her body left until Wang Dashe arrived.
Their mindsets were utterly different in this struggle. Torn by conflicting loyalties, Wang Dashe was already losing ground.
Wang Dashe's consciousness began to blur.
Forget it.
