Annan draped a coat over Evelyn. After a short rest, they continued filming the most intimate part of the Magic Film. As in the original, mist on the window and handprints pressed against the glass left the rest to the audience's imagination.
When filming ended, Annan stepped out of the damp, stifling room. An afternoon breeze brushed his face. The hottest days of summer had passed before they had even arrived.
Annan returned to the tent and told Michael, Copperbeard, and the others, "I'll leave the rest of the shoot to you. I need to visit Street Sweeper Headquarters."
"I'll come with you," Francois said.
The Ratfolk must have learned that Della had betrayed her people and fled. They were bound to hate Annan to the bone.
"You have something else to do." Annan had no need for Francois, who could not beat him. He pointed to the Neutrud Harp in the corner. "Find musicians and a choir to provide the accompaniment for The Mage Tower's Fall."
Francois thought for a moment. "We could ask the Wealth Church. They'll do anything for money."
As a city at the northernmost edge of the Rikaner Kingdom, Breeze City had fewer churches than other cities. Only official churches, such as the Goddess of Wealth's, had a presence there.
Riding to Street Sweeper Headquarters in the Mage Tower's Carriage, Annan reread Della's note. She had written more than she had ever said to him in person, and her tone was relaxed and casual.
So the little rat has two sides to her.
