Seeing the Skarlu United Organization's situation take a sudden turn for the worse, Commander Skaven couldn't help cursing.
Both sides had roughly the same number of Master Level fighters, and the organization had the advantage in numbers. Even with a Blue Dragon on the other side, they should have been able to hold out for a few days. Yet less than half an hour later, the Oyster Gang's boss and the mages were dead, leaving behind a mob that ran faster than it charged.
"Lord Skaven, should we retreat?" his adjutant asked.
Annan's forces appeared to have suffered little loss. On their own, they would have a hard time holding off the Oskulas Mercenary Company.
"No. The Grand Lord ordered us to keep Annan's forces pinned down here."
Commander Skaven surveyed the situation, then ordered, "Tell them to fall back toward us."
He had made one mistake: he had treated the Skarlu United Organization's people like soldiers.
In truth, they barely qualified as Militia. The moment his order reached them through the Amplification Spell, the gang members on the battlefield broke and ran. The rout snowballed. Even those at the rear who had been holding firm began shoving one another as they fled toward him in disarray. Some threw down their weapons and surrendered outright.
Thousands of gang members fled with all the force of a charge. Seeing this, the Freedom Gang deliberately herded them toward the soldiers' formation like sheep, using them to crash into the enemy.
Commander Skaven's scalp prickled. It looked as though a Rat Tide was bearing down on him. "Tell those deserters to stop! Turn around and face the enemy!"
