Could losing his memory also make him forget his own gender?
Binn needed time to accept that he had an older brother—and that his older brother thought of himself as a woman.
"Your name is Binn too?" Knight Tarkinson, his "brother-in-law," asked him.
Binn of the City of Art looked over with concern as well.
Binn said bitterly, "Father thought you were dead. He was devastated, and after I was born, he gave me the same name."
"Father..." Binn of the City of Art murmured. He pressed a hand to his forehead, pain flickering across his face. "I can't remember anything."
"Even magic can't restore your memory?" Binn asked.
"We tried. The mage said Binn had lost part of his memory."
Could memories be lost like that?
Knight Tarkinson's eyes were hidden beneath his thick brows. "There are signs someone erased them. He may have stumbled upon something he shouldn't have seen."
Binn frowned too. His family had been ordinary people. What secret could they possibly have known?
But perhaps his brother's supposed death hadn't been an accident...
It didn't matter. Breeze City had already fallen, and there was no point digging into it now. His brother was alive, and he had come back. That was enough.
"Where is Father now?" Binn of the City of Art asked.
"Father and Mother passed away, one after the other, ten years ago."
As his brother stared at him in shock, he went on. "Until the day he died, Father regretted not taking better care of you..."
Tears streamed down Binn of the City of Art's face, but his eyes held only confusion. "I can't remember anything..."
"Then don't force yourself. You've found your younger brother..." Knight Tarkinson, standing beside him, drew him close.
Binn felt awkward. The two brothers looked so alike
