The Reconnaissance Airship's first ascent went smoothly. Annan watched it carry the Goblins steadily up to a hundred meters. After hovering there briefly, it continued climbing, gradually shrinking from the size of a barrel to that of a seabird.

On a clear day, someone watching closely could still spot it. But with even a few clouds, no one would notice those eyes floating overhead.

More importantly, it was quiet. At just a dozen or so meters above the ground, it became almost impossible to hear. A blend of Airship and Hot-Air Balloon technology with Magic Technology mixed in, it would be hard to spot by day or night once coated in a light color.

It had drawbacks, too. It was fragile enough to capsize in slightly rough weather, and it was not particularly fast. Most of the time, though, it could avoid trouble in time.

Once he had confirmed there were no problems, Annan ordered the factory to begin mass-producing Reconnaissance Airships at once. He also told them to keep their purpose secret—who knew how many factions had Informants in Free City?

Above all, Martin must not find out.

If he found out, Aunt Susan would know. If Aunt Susan knew, everyone in Free City would know.

The Airship factory could currently build three Reconnaissance Airships a day, nowhere near enough. Annan simply requisitioned the existing Airships, including the twenty-odd previously delivered to the Wealth Church.
