When Griffin was still human, he had kept some things to himself to avoid arousing Annan's suspicion.
But after becoming a Lich, Griffin seemed to have thrown off his restraints. He no longer had to hide what he really thought.
Weren't Liches supposed to lose their emotions and many of life's pleasures? Why did Griffin seem more lively instead...?
Annan couldn't make sense of it. Still, Griffin's Life Casket was in his hands, so he could make sure Griffin stayed on the "right path."
Incidentally, Griffin had also struck up a connection with the Skeleton King. As the "smartest Lich" in the eyes of the outside world, he could gain plenty of valuable knowledge from him.
"Do you need me to explain things to your students?"
"No, Lord Annan," Griffin said. "I don't care."
Griffin hadn't cared about shame or reputation even when he was human, let alone now that he was a Lich.
If there was another benefit to Griffin's transformation, besides putting Annan's mind at ease, it was that he no longer needed rest. Like a Skeleton Farmer, he could work around the clock.
His students still needed sleep, though, so the Potion Workshop only opened during the day. At night, Griffin went to the Mage Tower and conducted his evil but well-known experiments in the Alchemy Room assigned to him.
After a long day, Annan entered the mist again late at night. The prayers had once more grown indistinct.
It seemed he could only wait for Silver City to find the person he wanted, or for the Skeleton King to refine another soul-enhancing potion.
Several days passed like this: keeping the Princess company by day, refining Divinity by night, and occasionally checking on Griffin's experiments. Then someone arrived from the East.
