Annan had many qualities the Skeleton King admired. Now it had found one more.
Few people could remain calm when faced with the prospect of becoming a god. Those who could were Legendaries privy to the secrets of the gods, not a lord who had only just turned twenty.
At times, Annan seemed like a cunning, seasoned politician. At others, he was as innocent as an elf fresh from the depths of the forest. The contradiction fascinated the Skeleton King.
Annan had no idea the Skeleton King had grown even fonder of him. He was still thinking about the gods. "So most gods choose to have it both ways?"
The Skeleton King nodded. "They first use the former approach to extract Faith Power and gain a foothold, then use the latter to establish their own tenets."
"What fine gods Allen World has..."
Annan sneered. He caught a familiar whiff of rot.
But calling them utterly wicked would go too far. In a sense, they did help people in need; their motives simply weren't pure. As the famous saying went: the gifts Fate bestows in secret already have a price attached.
It all came down to interests. That had never changed...
"I have one more question... Really, the last one."
Annan raised a finger. "Where does Faith Power come from?"
The Skeleton King's approval was unconcealed. "You may be a Sorcerer, but you're more curious than many Mages."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"Faith Power comes from the faith of Believers. The more devout a Believer, the more Faith Power they produce. It seems to be a power generated by the soul, but Wizards have conducted experiments: controlling and hypnotizing a group of people does not produce faith. So besides the soul, it must also involve will and emotion."
"Some
