The Orcs who had emerged from the Forest Mountains kept busy with their work. Their arrival soon drew the attention of the city's residents, who gathered around the camp and watched the filthy, Brown-Skinned Orcs with their fearsome tusks shoulder trees and hammer them roughly into the ground, as if they were watching a Magic Film.
The workers who had built wooden walls at Star-Moon Bay and were now building more in Free City couldn't hold back. "Oak isn't good for walls. Use the Conifers over there."
Several Orcs brought over the conifers, and the workers called out again, "That's it! Sharpen the Tree Roots and drive them into the ground. Even a White Dragon couldn't knock them down!" Then they marveled at the Orcs' strength. They were born for this kind of work...
While the workers guided the Orcs in building their camp, the children edged closer. Whenever an Orc roared to drive them off, they shrieked and ran dozens of meters away, only to return under their ringleader Cathy's lead.
These Orcs really didn't seem to mean humans any harm... Did they want to be neighbors?
Still finding their every move bizarre, Annan approached the camp again. Before the Orc Chief could drive him away, he said, "I'm the City Lord here."
"You're Annan?"
The Orc Chief's deep voice and imposing build would have been intimidating, but Illymoyas had long since accustomed Annan to being looked down on. "You know me?"
Frost Wolf Howler told us to come here. He said you took in Orcs."
"We do take in Orcs, but not like this." Annan pointed to the city behind him. "You should come inside, not set up camp outside the walls."
"...You're joking."
This Orc Chief seemed well-traveled—he even knew what a joke was.
