A New Agreement

A vortex colder than the chill winds from the Snow Mountains stirred in Breeze City.

The good news was that Annan was not Levis. The bad news was that the killer thought he was.

After accidentally using Summoning to call the Blue Dragon, though, the killer might investigate Annan more calmly instead of crushing him like an insignificant ant.

Before setting out, Annan went back. He climbed the Wooden Steps in the corner of the warehouse, pushed open the Trapdoor, and caught a small crawling creature clinging to the gap.

The Attic was as quiet as it had been when he left. Before going out again, Annan thought for a moment and tucked a strand of hair into the Trapdoor's gap. He had no idea whether the trick would work in a world of magic.

The damp smell of moldy wood in the rainy season filled the Attic. Annan opened the Glass Bottle to feed the spider, then leaned forward and opened the window.

If he knew any other Spells, he could have opened the window easily with Mage Hand.

The creature Annan dropped into the Glass Bottle found no foothold on the narrow, smooth glass. It fell into the Web at the bottom and became more entangled the harder it struggled.

Usually, Annan watched the hunt with interest. Now it made him frown. He could not help thinking of his own peril, and as he projected his feelings onto the creature, he felt the helplessness of the weak at the mercy of those in control.

And the frustration of being caught in an invisible vortex.
