But its name, World Island, was misleading. It was actually a continent surrounded by Obiris Strait. Smaller than the Allen Continent, though not by much...
After fifteen days crossing half of Obiris Strait, the merchant ship made a brief stop at Maple Tree Island, on the outer edge of Wilhelm. The captain came respectfully to first class and told Annan the ship would remain at Maple Island for three hours.
Annan decided to go ashore and look around.
He went up on Deck with Klein and Lemon. The first thing he saw was the city in the sky. The distant Floating City he had seen from Free City now resembled a Hot-Air Balloon, appearing and disappearing like a dream high above them.
A gleaming white waterfall poured down from between the Floating City's Mountains, becoming a silver ribbon that trailed through a brilliant rainbow.
That was why the locals called it Rainbow City.
Annan felt no jealousy. A warrior might envy a powerful mage, but a mage could only aspire to become one.
"Free City will be even more beautiful someday," Annan said softly.
Klein said nothing. Even Lemon, bubbling away, had more to say.
At the Harbor, Annan hired a short guide. Klein said the man was also a thief. One job alone couldn't keep him fed, after all.
"Maple Island is a friendly place with good, honest people," the short man said.
Just then, a local grabbed a sailor by the collar and sprayed spit in his face. "This is Wilhelm, the center of the world! Don't bring your backwater habits here!"
