Commander Gao did not keep Shen Bing waiting long. He called that very evening. "Shen Bing, the Chief has approved your proposal. But you have to promise you absolutely won't go to the United States yourself." Commander Gao was still uneasy. He had a feeling Shen Bing's plan involved far more than sending a robot stand-in.
Of course Shen Bing could not send only a robot. After all, he was not sure how the system judged these things. If it decided that the Americans targeting his robot did not count as offending him, wouldn't he lose out?
"Commander Gao! If the Chief has already agreed, why worry about that?" Despite his words, he felt a warm glow inside. He could tell Commander Gao genuinely cared about him. Whatever the reason behind it, that sincerity was enough.
Commander Gao paused, then said, "Forget it! I'm staying out of it. Someone will come to see you tomorrow. Discuss the arrangements with them."
"Sure!" Shen Bing answered readily.
Suddenly, Commander Gao changed the subject. "Shen Bing, you've heard how the Sanling Group incident was handled, haven't you?"
"Yes." Shen Bing fell silent for a moment.
Commander Gao sighed. "The perpetrators will face justice, but the mastermind will get away scot-free. Japan won't punish the chairman of Sanling Heavy Industries over this."
Shen Bing was taken aback. "What do you mean by that, Commander Gao?"
Commander Gao chuckled. "What could I mean? I just think it's a shame. Four young men sacrificed their lives, yet as Commander of the Rongcheng Military District, I can't even bring the mastermind to court for them. Ah..."
All right, Shen Bing understood now.
"Commander Gao, whether it goes to court doesn't really matter. Executing the killers is the greatest tribute we can offer the dead," Shen Bing said.
