The captain felt terribly wronged!

The police officer had put it rather tactfully, but wasn't he essentially saying the captain was making up a script?

Damn! All of this was exactly what we'd just been through!

Was it my fault I didn't know how those guns broke? My fault I didn't know why those people collapsed? My fault I didn't know where they went after being dragged into that hidden corner?

The captain said solemnly, "Officer, please respect my integrity! Everything I just told you was absolutely true. As for why something so bizarre happened, honestly, I don't know either."

The officer inwardly cursed, MMP, but he stopped insisting on his own interpretation.

But what was he supposed to say next? This conversation was going nowhere! It felt as though their worldviews were completely different, like trying to find common ground between an atheist and a devout believer.

The officer was growing increasingly suspicious that these people had never been hijacked by pirates at all. He even suspected they had ulterior motives for calling the police.

His grounds for suspicion? Did he really need any damn grounds? They were spouting utter nonsense. Even if their weapons had been mysteriously destroyed, as they claimed, there ought to have been some gun parts left on the floor. Even half a barrel or a hammer would have done.

Instead, the floor was cleaner than if it had just been swept...

Suddenly, the captain exclaimed, "Officer, you doubt what I just told you, don't you? I've thought of evidence that proves I wasn't lying. That pirate leader fired his gun wildly into the air. There must be bullet holes above us."

As he finished speaking, everyone slowly raised their heads and looked overhead.

The cabin was brightly lit, and the ceiling wasn't particularly high.
