Ch. 521The Three Talents Must Have Their Places!
Plot and key events
- Chen Cuo briefly reaches into a mist and catches Mist Aura, glimpsing three more stars before the vision gives way to the unfolding events in Chang’an.
- Lü Shang releases the Ranking List. It expands into an immense scroll that draws in True Spirits and Incense from across the Northern Lands, recording countless names. Observers realize the Starweave Ranking was preparation for this move.
- The list transforms many ordinary Daoist Order disciples: cultivation bottlenecks break, their strength and understanding rise, and they recognize the presence of Jiang Ziya, the Jade Void forebear.
- Lü Shang argues that the Daoist Order need not rely on a few famous cultivators: anyone can be guided and given a role. Azure Light settles on millions of people, gathering immense power.
- Three powerful adversaries prepare to attack Lü Shang, but his three Primordial Spirit incarnations hold them at bay. Tingyi identifies his plan: unite the paths of Primordial Beginning, Creation, and Incense under the Three Talents—heaven, earth, and humanity—and use Pangu’s body to establish a path.
- Tingyi explains that establishing a path requires discovering universal principles, having the Dao Attainment to bear them, and spreading them through teachings and practice. She then reveals that her guidance has bound her to Chen Cuo by cause and effect. She goes to confront Lü Shang, warning Chen Cuo to retreat.
- Chen Cuo instead gains insight into his own Three Flowers and their associated paths. Lü Shang senses this and invites him to watch as he steps toward the confrontation.
Character developments and interactions
- Lü Shang reveals himself as a meticulous strategist with a vision of a Daoist order rooted in the participation of ordinary people, not just powerful individuals. His vast preparations culminate in a direct challenge to his opponents.
- Tingyi shifts from guide to participant, explaining the principles behind establishing a path and accepting the consequences of guiding Chen Cuo. Her transformation into a more mature, formidable figure accompanies her move to confront Lü Shang.
- Chen Cuo turns Tingyi’s teaching into personal insight, seeing how his Three Flowers relate to Primordial Beginning, Incense, and Pangu, while the Black-Robed Daoist within him develops the mysteries of Creation.
- The three intruders recognize the danger of Lü Shang’s plan but remain poised against his incarnations. The outside observers understand that the ranking and its effects were deliberate groundwork.
Significant themes
- A path requires three foundations: universal principles, the capacity to sustain them, and a community that learns and practices them.
- Collective cultivation and shared purpose: ordinary people can become the basis of a powerful order when given guidance and a place.
- Preparation, transmission, and consequence: Lü Shang’s long strategy and Tingyi’s binding act of guidance both show that establishing a Dao carries lasting obligations.
- Parallel paths and emergence: Lü Shang’s plan and Chen Cuo’s insight suggest that multiple cosmic principles are converging, setting up a larger contest over how the Dao will be established.
