Someone said to me today, "Chu Bai, your novel's going on sale. Aren't you going to write a note about it?"
I was puzzled. "This is the sixth novel I've released. Surely I don't need to write a note for every one?"
They looked at me like I was iron that refused to become steel. "Haven't you seen those light novel authors? They write a note for every volume! And how many words is a volume? Only two hundred thousand!"
Me: "...All right, you've convinced me."
Summer Reversal was a novel that had a difficult birth. I ran into plenty of setbacks while planning and writing it. More than once, I even thought about putting down my pen for good.
But I still had stories in my heart, and my hands could still type. I simply couldn't convince myself to give up.
And so this story came to be: the story of a young man who, bewildered, found himself carrying a "great mission" so vast he couldn't even see where to begin, then stumbled into the Martial World with a cheat that wasn't all that powerful.
As for what I wanted to say with this story?
I'd like to answer with the poem that opens the novel.
My ambition to soar among the clouds remains unfulfilled; I bustle through life like a speck of dust.
Yet the spirit in my chest refuses to let this life go to waste!
