"I'm telling you this so you understand your task. It matters even more than my killing that World Tree!
"And you two are far from the only gods among Purple Dusk who possess the Destruction Law!"
The two Chief Gods bowed their heads, chilled to the bone. The sovereign was warning them. They could compete however they liked, but they could not jeopardize the larger plan. Otherwise, the sovereign would not tolerate them...
A Chief God might sound only one realm below a sovereign, but the higher one climbed, the wider the gulf in power became.
At a sovereign's level, killing the two of them would be little harder than crushing two ants.
Beneath a sovereign, all were ants!
The two Chief Gods stood meekly, about to make their assurances.
Then they saw a strange change come over the sovereign's face. Before they could wonder why, their Divine Cores began to pound violently.
The Divine Light they had carefully drawn in before the sovereign spilled out against their will, flickering on and off.
They could feel a storm of Laws suddenly rise in the Sea of Laws and crash into them.
"No! Someone has become a sovereign—and a Destruction Sovereign at that!"
