This was definitely the longest book I'd ever written, and the one that had left the deepest impression on me so far. You could even call it a textbook example of a story full of twists and turns...

When I first started writing it, I solemnly promised readers that it would be all about showing off and slapping faces...

But I soon discovered that, damn it, writing that kind of story took skill too, and I wasn't all that good at it. On top of that, the internet was being cleaned up at the time, and every rustle in the grass sounded like an enemy soldier.

So I figured I might as well stop writing urban face-slapping stories and switch back to my old trade: xianxia...

That was how the book underwent its first major overhaul. I changed so much that even the main storyline was different.

At the time, plenty of readers cursed me out: "Where the hell did you steal this book from, you plagiarist? Nothing connects, and it's riddled with plot holes."

Back then, someone was yelling at me in the reviews almost every day!

After I switched to xianxia, there was a long stretch when the sudden change left me unsure what to write. For a while, readers started feeling that the story was dull and there wasn't much worth reading...

It wasn't until I gradually sorted out my thoughts and got writing again that the story became interesting once more. The numbers reflected it too: average subscriptions rose by a good chunk.

Before I knew it, more than a year had passed, and the book had reached three million Chinese characters.

I swear I'd never intended to write something this long, nor had I imagined the story would turn out this way.
