There seemed to be no moon tonight. It was very dark. Few cars drove through Pale Blue Castle; vehicles belonging to anyone but the university's students and staff were barred from passing through.
In the past, she would have found the campus peaceful. Tonight, unease kept rising in her heart.
Pale blue mist had gathered outside the Chariot window without her noticing. It made driving feel like moving through a nightmare.
Gradually, Arabella slipped into a strange state. Her brow furrowed and her eyes went vacant. She seemed awake, yet also trapped in some nightmare.
The mist churned outside the car. Within it, figures seemed to emerge: warriors on horseback, feathers thrust into their headdresses.
A sudden, crisp ding made Arabella jolt
