Ch. 741Ancestral Cave
Plot points and events
- Tang Changsheng is taken to the back mountain because he failed the Coming-of-Age Ceremony and did not awaken his bloodline.
- His escorts are meant to place him in a cave under his father’s orders, but the Wizard intervenes and commands them to take him instead to the more ominous Ancestral Cave.
- The warriors obey despite their fear, promising to alert the chief. Tang enters the cave alone, where he encounters darkness, cold, scattered bones, ghostly flames, and a venomous snake.
- Though his injuries have largely healed, Tang’s unfamiliar body remains poorly coordinated, leaving him unable to fight effectively.
Character developments and interactions
- Tang stays composed and avoids resisting, reasoning that his current weakness makes open defiance dangerous. He also distances himself from the jealousy and hostility directed at the body’s former owner.
- He suspects his father, the warrior chief, is protecting his family’s grip on power rather than acting selflessly.
- The Wizard asserts authority over the chief’s men and sends Tang into the cave for reasons not yet revealed. The warriors show sympathy but are too frightened to disobey.
Significant themes
- Power and inheritance: Leadership in the stockade is often kept within families, and Tang’s father may be seeking to preserve his position.
- Vulnerability and adaptation: Tang’s powerful Primordial Spirit cannot compensate for a body he has not yet mastered.
- Uncertainty and danger: The cave’s eerie resemblance to a place from Tang’s past raises doubts about whether he has truly escaped the Spirit World.
