Ch. 1301Investiture of the Gods?
Key plot points
- Tang Changsheng sees the mortal rebellions as an opportunity to gain influence, despite his lack of interest in becoming Sect Leader of the Taiyi Immortal Sword Order. He and Wang Yufu spend over a month preparing a plan.
- After seven days, a Heavenly Court representative arrives to test Tang’s claim that he can resolve the crisis. Tang argues that a conflict rooted in the Human Way must be addressed through human institutions: support the current Imperial Court if it can prevail, or back a promising claimant to establish a new Dragon Court if it cannot.
- He adds that the immortals’ role is to counter the Purple Dusk Demon’s interference while allowing human forces to fight the rebellion. His advice convinces the visitor, who delivers the Heavenly Edict appointing Tang to handle the Great Calamity of the Human Way.
- The visitor reveals himself as Zhen Yuanzi, a prominent elder of the Hall of All Immortals and a fellow member of Tang’s sect. Tang asks the Heavenly Court to help create the Investiture of the Gods, a treasure to gather the souls of heroes who die on either side of the conflict. Zhen Yuanzi enthusiastically agrees and departs to arrange it.
- Wang Yufu celebrates their success. As Tang waits for further news, the Earth Qi becomes disturbed, killing intent surges, and the Spirit Pool begins to shake.
Character developments and interactions
- Tang Changsheng proves himself a capable strategist, using his experience with upheavals in the Great Chu World to offer a solution unfamiliar to the immortals of Eastern Glory. He also navigates institutional pride by asking Zhen Yuanzi for help after bypassing Nine-Chamber Mountain.
- Zhen Yuanzi arrives suspicious and angry but is won over by Tang’s reasoning. His admiration grows further when Tang proposes the Investiture of the Gods.
- Wang Yufu is Tang’s planning partner and shares his relief and excitement when their effort succeeds.
