The Egg of Phanes? What was that?
Bilborn withdrew with a head full of questions. He was no theologian who specialized in mythology, nor did he know much about the myths of Olympus. He had studied myths from around the world after the gods descended, but only at a surface level.
He was not alone, though. Behind him stood a group of powerful figures who hoped to gain eternal life.
Once outside, he sent them a written account of his conversation with Zeus before they could grow anxious. He had used text because he had not dared to record video or audio in Zeus's presence. He feared that doing so would profane the god.
"The Egg of Phanes? What is that? Is it mentioned anywhere in the myths of Olympus?"
President Archimedes of Greece voiced the question in a conference room.
He was Greek and had grown up hearing his country's myths and legends, yet even he had never heard of such a thing.
"Phanes is a god recorded in the 'Sacred Discourses' of the Orphic Theogony. Protogonos, Erikepaios, and Autogenes are all other names for him. In the cosmology of the Mystery Cults, he is an androgynous god and an omnipotent God King. He is the father of Nyx, the primordial goddess of night."
"According to the cosmological account of the Orphic Mysteries, Phanes was born from Chaos. At birth, he tore apart the infinite Chaos and brought everything into existence. In other words, the Mystery Cults regard Phanes as a creator god."
"As for the Egg of Phanes, an egg is the beginning of life. Orphic texts say, 'Eternal Chronos made an egg within Aether, and the egg gave birth to the first god.' So the Egg of Phanes may be the egg from which Phanes was born."
