An indescribable chill washed over him from head to toe, as though someone had dumped a huge basin of ice water over his head.
He had checked the Class Levels of the people here and discreetly asked about the gods they worshipped. But he had never imagined that this place had a special set of rules.
Those rules applied only to the natives. But when an outsider killed a native, the outsider was forced to take their place and became bound by those rules.
And he, Franco IV, had become their victim.
"Your Majesty? Is something wrong?" a Guard asked quietly when he saw Franco IV's face suddenly turn pale.
Looking at his Guard, Franco IV did not tell him what had happened. He forced himself to calm down, clasped his hands behind his back, and paced the guest room as he thought.
After about ten minutes, he gave his orders calmly.
"Go take control of the castle Guards. Tell them I intend to be king here. Ask who supports it and who opposes it. Kill anyone who opposes it."
"And bring the Queen here. Ask if she'd like a new husband. If she would, ask what she thinks of me."
"Yes, Your Majesty," the Guards answered in unison, then left the guest room.
Before long, the beautiful Queen was brought in.
Before this—more precisely, before he had taken the king's place—he had harbored certain desires for the Queen that he could hardly admit. She was simply too beautiful. But now, those thoughts were gone.
He looked without expression at the Queen, who had just lost her husband. "My Guards told you what happened, I assume."
"They did."
The Queen's face was just as expressionless.
"What do you think?"
"Kill the Princess for me, and I'll be your Queen."
"Fine."
