Yi Nation had no taste for skyscrapers. Its cities tended to spread outward, and buildings rarely rose high unless necessary.
Jade Capital was especially so.
Jade Capital was a vast city. Neither its population nor its economy ranked first in the nation, but its area was absurdly large.
Seen from above, Jade Capital lay on a plain, with canyons and mountains beyond its borders. Most buildings stood no more than ten stories tall. A great expanse of centuries-old architecture remained at its center, with the Imperial City and palace at its heart.
At that moment, in the Eastern Palace.
Heavy snow lent the depths of the palace a different kind of charm.
A robed man sat in a chair, phone in hand, murmuring, "A heavenly immortal must have drunk himself wild and crushed the white clouds to pieces..."
When he finished, he gave a soft laugh.
"Heh..."
The next post appeared. The previous one had gone up last night; this one had just been posted:
"As if a spring wind came overnight, a thousand trees, ten thousand trees burst into pear blossoms..."
The accompanying photo showed the bare trees in Locust Court. Snowflakes drifted down, dotting the leafless branches with white until they looked like pear blossoms in bloom.
Those two lines were rather good.
"Never heard them before."
The man searched for them on his phone.
Naturally, nothing came up.
He put down his phone, took a sip of hot tea from beside him, and smiled. "That boy's been going around babbling about being obsessed with poetry for years. At last he's come up with a couple of lines that sound pleasing to the ear. Rare, very rare..."
Someone beside him chimed in with flattery.
