Ch. 521You All Rejected Me? Can We Still Be Friends?

Plot points and events

  • Chen Shu visits Peach, who is shy about her poor Art grade. He gently teases her by comparing her struggles with Ning Qing’s childhood shortcomings, and Peach repeats his words until Ning Qing’s stern looks stop her.
  • Peach asks whether Chen Shu and Ning Qing will leave again. Chen promises they will stay until she reaches third grade, then explains that they must leave to help save the world—and protect Peach. Ning Qing confirms this, reassuring Peach.
  • Chen Shu resumes studying and testing his Blazing Sun World-Destroying Divine Art while the senior cultivators prepare for the coming war. He reaches the peak of the Ninth Tier, where further advancement becomes especially difficult.
  • After completing another improvement to the spell, Chen Shu asks his peers to accompany him to Southern Continent for a test. Most decline, joke, or redirect him to someone else. Brother Meng refuses, while Unknown Person offers, but Chen Shu says he should focus on stabilizing his cultivation.
  • The group suggests asking two Nightfolk. One appears gravely injured on a video call, while the other repeatedly starts typing without sending anything. Chen Shu is left puzzled.

Character developments and interactions

  • Peach is more articulate and thoughtful than before, but remains emotionally attached to Chen Shu and Ning Qing and worries about being left behind. Her playful parroting continues, as does her habit of quickly forgetting minor reprimands.
  • Chen Shu is affectionate and patient with Peach, balancing humor with an honest explanation of his responsibilities. He is also increasingly powerful and technically accomplished, though his spell research still requires practical testing.
  • Ning Qing quietly supports Chen Shu’s reassurance, even though the explanation strikes her as childish.
  • Chen Shu’s peers show little eagerness to help with his experiment, trading jokes and excuses instead. Their reluctance contrasts with the seriousness of the looming conflict.

Significant themes

  • Family, separation, and reassurance: Peach’s questions reveal the emotional cost of Chen Shu and Ning Qing’s dangerous responsibilities.
  • Duty and protection: The adults must leave not because they want to, but because they believe saving the world is necessary to protect Peach and others.
  • Power and preparation: Cultivators across generations are mobilizing for war, while Chen Shu’s rapid progress and spell research show the demanding work behind that preparation.
  • Humor amid danger: Domestic teasing and chat-group banter provide lightness against the backdrop of a coming world-threatening conflict.

Ch. 522I Thought You Were a Little Kitten Girl, but You're a Big Boss at School

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Shu invites Senior Sister Jin and Friend Huang to a barbecue, then uses the gathering as cover to test two revised versions of the Blazing Sun World-Destroying Divine Art.
  • The new versions are designed for different purposes: one makes the Spirit Power more corrosive, while the other spreads the attack across a vast area, making it better for devastating weaker foes than dueling equals.
  • Jin and Huang evade and counterattack, but Chen Shu’s widespread burning stars catch them in the blast zone. They eventually defeat him together, though both are badly scorched. Jin posts a warning online about accepting Chen Shu’s invitations.
  • Chen Shu refines the spells over the following days and concludes that, with his cultivation and preparation largely settled, Spacetime Energy and the Blazing Sun art will be his main assets in the coming war.
  • Later, Chen Shu, Qingqing, and Xiaoxiao walk the Kitten Girl to school. Chen Shu reflects on the lively children around them as a reminder of what they are protecting.
  • At the school, several students greet Peach as “Boss Peach.” Chen Shu realizes she may have a fearsome reputation among her classmates and asks whether she has been bullying them. The excerpt ends as Peach prepares to respond.

Character developments

  • Chen Shu is playful and sly, disguising combat testing as a friendly meal. He remains focused on preparing for the coming war, but also shows a softer, protective side while walking Peach to school.
  • Senior Sister Jin and Friend Huang are willing, enthusiastic sparring partners, though their trust in Chen Shu’s invitations is limited. Their experience confirms the danger—and effectiveness—of his modified spell.
  • Peach, the Kitten Girl, is increasingly capable and confident: she can read some characters and takes pride in being addressed as “Boss.” Despite her tiny, childlike appearance, she seems to command respect at school.
  • Qingqing and Xiaoxiao join the walk, giving the outing a warm, family-like quality.

Significant themes

  • Preparation and sacrifice: Chen Shu prioritizes practical combat strength over broader magical study because of the approaching plane war.
  • Power and responsibility: The children’s ordinary happiness reminds Chen Shu what the conflict is ultimately meant to protect.
  • Comedy through contrast: A friendly barbecue becomes a brutal spell test, while tiny Peach’s affectionate appearance clashes with her apparent status as a school “boss.”
  • Found family and everyday care: The school walk highlights the warmth and quiet affection of Chen Shu’s household.

Character interactions

  • Chen Shu’s teasing, strategic manner shapes his relationship with Jin and Huang; they accept his invitation but quickly discover its real purpose.
  • Jin and Huang cooperate against Chen Shu, then humorously warn others online about his “barbecues.”
  • Chen Shu and Peach share a tender moment on the walk, holding hands, until the students’ greetings reveal a startling side of her school life.
  • The chapter closes on the tension between Chen Shu’s protective concern and Peach’s proud, possibly intimidating reputation among her peers.

Ch. 523Classmate Ning Taozi Was Quite a Problem

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Shu confronts Peach about reports that she is intimidating classmates. Peach explains that she fought back when others picked on her for being a cat demon, then began defending bullied classmates and discouraging fights.
  • Chen accepts her account but tells her that standing up for herself must not turn into bullying. He asks her to learn gentleness and patience, encouraging her with the example of Qingqing—and joking that someone like him is the sort of person Qingqing could love.
  • At school, staff greet Peach warmly. Chen tours the school and speaks privately with her homeroom teacher to check how she is actually doing.
  • The teacher says Peach is clever and attentive, but socially aloof and sometimes dismissive of classmates. Her schoolwork can be deliberately unhelpful or unconventional, and she sometimes ignores parts of what adults say. Chen promises to work with the school on these habits, leaving Peach nervously anticipating consequences.
  • After the visit, the group parts ways: the researcher in their party leaves for work, while Zhang Suannai goes to meet Wu Eiwei for another fight. Chen and Qingqing head to the market.

Character developments

  • Peach/Ning Taozi shows that her toughness is tied to being singled out and to her wish to protect others. She listens seriously when Chen teaches her about gentleness, suggesting she is beginning to mature.
  • Chen Shu balances trust with responsible oversight: he believes Peach, yet independently checks with her teacher. His affectionate, patient guidance helps her feel valued.
  • The teacher is considerate and collaborative, framing Peach’s difficulties as shared responsibilities rather than simply blaming her.
  • Zhang Suannai remains playful and competitive, while her quiet envy reveals how much she values the care and guidance Peach has received.

Significant themes

  • Strength and gentleness: Fighting back can be justified, but real strength also requires restraint, patience, and care for others.
  • Trust and responsibility: Chen takes Peach’s word seriously while still seeking a fuller picture from the school.
  • Belonging and care: Peach’s experience at school contrasts with Zhang’s reflection on growing up without parents; steady adult support can help a child feel secure.
  • Different ways of thinking: Peach’s unusual answers and selective listening point to differences between demon and human perspectives, as well as ordinary childhood mischief.

Character interactions

  • Chen questions Peach firmly but affectionately; her trust in him grows when he says he considers her dependable.
  • Peach listens to Chen’s lesson while holding his hand, and Qingqing’s presence serves as a model for the kind of person Chen hopes she will become.
  • Chen and the teacher cooperate over Peach’s behavior and education, while Peach anxiously imagines that the adults are planning to punish her.
  • Chen and Zhang trade teasing remarks about her upcoming duel with Wu Eiwei, maintaining their familiar, joking rapport.

Ch. 524Time Capsule

Chapter Summary

Key events

  • Chen Shu and Ning Qing enjoy a quiet lunch at home, making simple dishes that pair well with a new, unusually effective rice cooker gifted by their neighbor.
  • Chen Shu’s group chat erupts over a video of Suannai and Wu Eiwei’s brutal sword fight. The members joke about the footage being censored, while Grandma Always Says retaliates against Greens and Cocoa for teasing her. A group video call follows, and Chen Shu hastily closes the chat when someone approaches.
  • That evening, the family watches news about the Yi Emperor’s return and learns that the Forbidden Land on Lanya has closed. The coming war between planes will be fought by Ninth-Tier Cultivators, while the Deities remain outside the battlefield but will still contest one another’s strength. Neighboring planes are expected to join the conflict.
  • Chen Shu asks Xiaoxiao about her Artificial Cultivator project, which is nearly ready for testing. She proudly says it works extremely well, but holds back a joke about using it against her sister after recently being beaten.
  • Later, Chen Shu and Ning Qing visit their old Seventh Talent Academy. Sharing memories of their time there, they enter the dusty storage room where the students’ time capsules are kept. Ning Qing quietly finds two capsules and offers them to Chen Shu.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Shu and Ning Qing: Their domestic ease and shared humor give way to nostalgia as they revisit the academy where they spent their youth. Ning Qing’s gentle gesture with the capsules leaves the chapter poised for a personal reflection on their past.
  • Chen Shu and Xiaoxiao: Their teasing exchange shows their familiar sibling-like rapport. Xiaoxiao is excited about her research, but knows better than to provoke her sister again that day.
  • Peach and her mistress: Peach diligently does homework under close supervision, forced to use the method her teacher expects rather than her own more efficient approach.
  • The group chat: The cultivators trade irreverent jokes despite the serious stature of people such as Tongdeng, now revered as a Bodhisattva. Their camaraderie includes mock outrage, old grudges, and playful threats.

Significant themes

  • Memory and time: The visit to the academy and the capsules turns the chapter toward the couple’s shared youth and the passage of time.
  • Ordinary life amid looming conflict: Lunch, homework, and teasing coexist with news of a potentially civilization-wide war.
  • Affection expressed through small gestures: The rice cooker, shared memories, and Ning Qing’s quiet offering of the capsules convey care without grand declarations.
  • Humor and irreverence: The cultivators’ banter punctures the solemnity of titles, battles, and cosmic stakes.

Ch. 525At Peace and Without Regret

Key events

  • Chen Shu and Ning Qing reopen the notes they wrote in their first year at school. His message wished her peace and no regrets; hers—“I’m learning to be your sun, too”—echoed his old metaphor about wanting to be more than a distant star.
  • They talk about the anonymous letters they received back then. Ning Qing remembers identifying Chen Shu’s letter immediately and discarding the rest, while Chen Shu admits he reread all three letters he received.
  • Ning Qing asks whether Chen Shu is at peace with his life. He says he has no regrets about his choices, including the different, remarkable life his other self lived on the Front Plane. Ning Qing quietly agrees: knowing what her life would be like did not make her wish to choose another path.
  • A Spirit Sect message interrupts their private moment. The upcoming plane war requires participants to travel through the Deities’ battlefield before crossing into the Withered Plane, so the Great Yi Royal Family holds a formal farewell banquet for the fighters.
  • Chen Shu brings Xiaoxiao to the banquet and meets up with his fellow young prodigies. In the palace corridor, he unexpectedly encounters Highness Cinnabar, who greets him respectfully and asks whether he has reached the Ninth Tier.
  • At Heavenly Harmony Hall, Chen Shu surveys the assembled fighters: elders nearing Spiritual Decline, established sect leaders, and a younger generation rapidly advanced to strength. He also notices a quiet young Celestial from the group chat—the only High Tier Celestial who has not already gone to the Withered Plane.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Shu and Ning Qing: Their exchange of old notes reveals how long they have remembered one another’s words. Their teasing about past admirers contrasts with a sincere mutual understanding: both feel their lives have been worthwhile and have no regrets.
  • Chen Shu: He sees his present comfort not as a simple victory, but as the fortunate chance to have experienced two distinct lives through his Front Plane self and himself.
  • Ning Qing: She affirms that, even knowing her life in advance, she would still choose it. Her reflection suggests that foreknowledge made the journey more meaningful, not less.
  • Chen Shu and Highness Cinnabar: She treats him with formal respect and mild admiration, while Chen Shu privately wishes she knew how much stronger he is than some of their mutual acquaintances.
  • The young fighters: Their group gathering and seating arrangements provide a relaxed contrast to the solemnity of the royal send-off.

Significant themes

  • Living without regret: The chapter’s central question is whether one would still choose one’s life if its hardships and outcome were known in advance. Both Chen Shu and Ning Qing answer yes.
  • Memory and lasting affection: The old notes show how small messages and early feelings can remain meaningful years later.
  • Fate versus choice: Knowing the future does not diminish the value of choosing and experiencing one’s path.
  • Private intimacy and public duty: The quiet reunion over their notes gives way to the approaching war and the formal gathering of those expected to fight.

Ch. 526Why Are These Young People So Strange?

Key plot points and events

  • At the victory banquet before the coming war between planes, the Yi Emperor gives a formal speech and raises a toast. The mood is solemn, but Chen Shu is more focused on the food.
  • The little girl, who helped prepare for the war, understands that the plan may cost her sister and brother-in-law their lives. She cannot find comfort in grand appeals to the greater good; to her, a world without them would be meaningless.
  • Chen Shu distracts and encourages her by pointing out the banquet dishes. She stealthily redistributes food to her sister and Zhang Suannai, then tries to claim the crispy potato balls—including Chen Shu’s—while he eats his own. Their antics draw amused attention, and other guests quietly send her extra portions.
  • Kongtiao, a powerful Celestial assigned as deputy and backup support for the war’s Command Center, observes the group. He had briefly entered their online chat but found them noisy and uninteresting. Seeing them in person only deepens his bafflement at their eccentric behavior.
  • After dinner, the young guests continue joking and making requests, while the senior figures discuss serious matters elsewhere. The banquet ends with the group still chatting and laughing, as Kongtiao watches from a distance.

Character developments

  • The little girl is revealed as deeply attached to her sister and Chen Shu, and frightened by what the war may demand of them. Her playful hunger and quick wit provide a way to cope with that fear.
  • Chen Shu comforts her through familiar teasing and food-sharing rather than solemn reassurance. His easy intimacy with her and Ning Qing shows how central family bonds are to him.
  • Kongtiao is introduced as capable, reserved, and observant, but socially bewildered. His assumptions about Celestial nature make the group’s ordinary human habits—and especially the Command Center’s “elegance”—seem inexplicable.
  • Master Tongdeng wants to sample meat-like vegetarian food, despite his Buddhist discipline; Zhang Suannai’s blunt question unsettles him and prompts him to recite scripture.

Significant themes

  • Private affection amid public sacrifice: The war is a struggle for survival, yet the characters’ personal attachments give the stakes their emotional meaning.
  • Humor as a response to fear: Food, teasing, and casual conversation offer relief from the approaching catastrophe without diminishing its seriousness.
  • The limits of grand ideals: The little girl cannot accept abstract sacrifice when the people she loves may be lost.
  • Belonging and difference: Kongtiao’s outsider perspective highlights how these celebrated geniuses are less solemn and predictable than their reputations suggest.

Character interactions

  • Chen Shu and the little girl communicate through glances and share a mischievous, familiar rapport; their food scheme becomes a small comic spectacle.
  • The group responds to the little girl’s appetite with smiles and extra servings, revealing warmth beneath their teasing.
  • Chen Shu casually leans on Ning Qing and discusses food and feeding his cat, showing the group’s relaxed closeness.
  • Zhang Suannai jokes with Master Tongdeng, while the others tease him about his interest in meat flavors.
  • Kongtiao watches the group’s exchanges in silent confusion. They greet him, but he offers only a cool nod before everyone returns to their conversation.

Ch. 527Dog God, This Glorious Age Is Just as You Wished

Summary

  • Preparation for the Other Plane: At a mountain research institute, the Yi Nation unveils fourteen Azure Demons—intelligent, floating spellcasting weapons roughly as powerful as Ninth-Tier Cultivators. They can cross the Plane Barrier and fight independently, but work best alongside human fighters. Commander Ning Qing has top authority over them; the Sword King and two King Court Sword Cultivators rank next, while others can command one if assigned or encountered without higher orders. Their creation consumed the Heavenly Palace, making them powerful but impossible to reproduce. Chen Shu recognizes their value and reflects that, despite the expedition’s overwhelming preparations, the stakes demand every possible advantage.
  • A week before departure: Back at the Spirit Sect, Chen Shu collects Spell Artifacts and sits watching the old town. A group chat reminds him of friendships stretching back to 5020, making him realize how quickly nearly nine years have passed. The group leader proposes that everyone share an embarrassing memory before their perilous expedition, but tries to make others go first.
  • The embarrassing-video exchange: Chen Shu—“Greens and Cocoa”—breaks the stalemate by posting an old video of Zhang Suannai as a child, insisting she is a boy and struggling to use a urinal. At the Sword Sect, Zhang watches in horror, then retaliates by posting a video of young Chen crying and behaving foolishly. The group laughs and teases them both. When members demand that the group leader share his own embarrassing moment, he denies having one and tries to end the conversation.
  • The final reversal: Luo Huai’an posts a humiliating video of the group leader, apologizing in advance for the breach of trust. The group falls silent, leaving the leader frozen with embarrassment.

Character developments and interactions

Chen Shu remains composed about the coming battle but shows a nostalgic, playful side through the group chat. Zhang Suannai is mortified by her childhood video, then quickly turns the embarrassment into a counterattack. The group’s long-standing friendships come through in their teasing, familiar insults, and shared memories; even those facing danger soon find comfort in joking together. The group leader’s attempt to provoke others backfires, while Luo Huai’an’s intervention turns the prank into a collective victory over his evasiveness.

Significant themes

The chapter contrasts civilizational sacrifice and military readiness with ordinary humor and friendship. It emphasizes that preparation matters even when victory seems nearly certain, while the chat’s nostalgia highlights how time passes and relationships endure. The characters’ willingness to laugh at themselves also offers a brief release from the uncertainty of an expedition they may not all survive.

Ch. 528Happy Reincarnation

Key plot points and events

  • Members of an online group share videos of people behaving strangely after Breakthroughs, turning private moments into public entertainment.
  • Meng Chunqiu watches a recording of his elder brother Liu deliriously declaring himself a great emperor and insulting past rulers. Meng regrets not witnessing it in person.
  • Meng’s own embarrassing Breakthrough video appears next: he sobs that he has no literary talent and has merely been boasting. When someone bluntly agrees, he cries even harder. After seeing the group laugh, he embraces their “happiness is transferred” joke and sends Jiang Lai a video in turn.
  • Jiang’s video shows him crawling across a Quiet Chamber floor, earnestly explaining that he is a caterpillar. Yan Keling finds the footage adorable, though she worries Jiang may be uncomfortable with the group’s teasing.
  • Jiang then posts a video of Wu Eiwei in a childlike state, singing and dancing. The group jokes about the song, and Wu privately scoffs at everyone’s foolishness.
  • A further video, originally recorded by Yan, shows Wu answering personal questions while apparently dazed. She explains that her mask aids cultivation and combat—and adds that she wears it because she is too good-looking. At the end, she reaches to remove it. Bodhisattva Tongdeng watches the clip as the excerpt ends.

Character developments

  • Meng Chunqiu shifts from amused spectator to the target of teasing, then joins in by passing the embarrassment along to Jiang.
  • Jiang Lai is revealed to have had a playful, uninhibited Breakthrough episode, despite his usual quiet reserve. He participates in the group’s chain of video-sharing.
  • Yan Keling openly delights in the group’s antics and finds Jiang’s behavior cute, but also shows concern for his feelings.
  • Wu Eiwei appears less composed in her Breakthrough footage: she sings, dances, answers questions candidly, and hints at her concealed beauty.
  • Tongdeng becomes the viewer of Wu’s intimate, potentially revealing moment.

Significant themes

  • Shared embarrassment and collective amusement: The group turns vulnerable post-Breakthrough behavior into entertainment.
  • The spread of happiness—and humiliation: Each person’s video prompts another member to share an embarrassing clip, making the joke self-perpetuating.
  • Public image versus private self: The recordings expose how eccentric or vulnerable characters can be beneath their usual dignified personas.
  • Trust and boundaries: The group’s teasing is affectionate, but Yan’s worry about Jiang highlights the risk of turning private moments into public spectacle.

Character interactions

The group chat’s jokes and reactions drive the chapter’s chain of revelations. Meng responds to the teasing by sending Jiang’s clip; Jiang continues the chain with Wu’s; and Yan’s recordings reveal another side of Wu. The excerpt ends on a moment of suspense as Wu begins to remove her mask while Tongdeng watches.

Ch. 529Good Thing I Never Got Close to Them Back Then

Key plot points and events

  • Wu Eiwei removes her mask, revealing a beautiful face. The group jokes that she resembles Zhang Suannai, while Zhang herself angrily denies the comparison.
  • On the night before the fighters depart for the foreign realm, the group shares jokes and old videos in their chat. Tongdeng reflects on the evening and feels grateful for his friends, believing he can face death with peace.
  • The chat asks Tongdeng and Xuanzhen to share footage of each other after their breakthroughs. Though they had promised not to reveal it, Xuanzhen posts a video of Tongdeng confessing that he wants to eat meat. Tongdeng retaliates by sharing a video of Xuanzhen tearfully recounting his failed attempts to find a girlfriend.
  • Chen Shu watches Xuanzhen’s video from the roof of Jade Spirit Hall, while Zhang Suannai continues mocking Wu Eiwei in the chat.
  • On the Floating Island, Kongtiao thinks about the Celestials who went before him and the young fighters who represent the plane’s hope. Hoping to understand his future allies, he opens the group chat. Its irreverent, chaotic messages horrify him, and he crushes his Crystal Card after leaving the group.

Character developments and interactions

  • Tongdeng finds comfort in friendship and in having fulfilled his wish to taste meat, but his tranquil mood is disrupted when Xuanzhen exposes his private confession.
  • Xuanzhen breaks their mutual promise, then becomes the target of Tongdeng’s revenge. Their teasing shows the closeness beneath their monkish composure.
  • The group bonds through irreverent humor, sharing personal footage and teasing one another even on the eve of a dangerous mission.
  • Kongtiao shifts from cautious curiosity about his allies to deep doubt about them. His attempt to learn more only convinces him that he may not be able to rely on them.
  • Wu Eiwei and Zhang Suannai become the subject of playful speculation about their resemblance; Zhang responds with emphatic insults.

Significant themes

  • Friendship in the face of danger: The group’s shared laughter gives Tongdeng comfort as they prepare for possible death.
  • Promises, trust, and retaliation: Xuanzhen’s breach of an agreement prompts Tongdeng to retaliate, turning private vulnerability into friendly ammunition.
  • Different ideas of seriousness: The fighters’ casual antics contrast with the gravity of the coming war, especially from Kongtiao’s perspective.
  • Belonging and alienation: The group’s humor strengthens its members’ ties but makes Kongtiao feel like an outsider, leaving him uncertain whether he can trust them.

Ch. 530Beautiful Memories of Youth, That's All

Summary

  • The group’s late-night teasing: Chen Shu and his friends wind down their video night by sharing embarrassing childhood clips. Illumination at Night posts a video of young Chen Shu panicking about his body, and he laughs at it, deciding that humiliating moments become fond memories with time. He gets even by sharing a comic ringtone of Jiang Lai as a husky, prompting her to threaten Seventh Senior Brother. The group’s jokes and mutual teasing end the evening on a warm, affectionate note.
  • Chen Shu’s appointment and the war effort: Chen Shu becomes Vice Sect Master of the Spirit Sect. Though he has the strength for the role, he lacks experience and status within the sect; the appointment is primarily a promise that his family will be looked after if he does not return from the coming war. He leaves for the Jade Capital with the Former Sect Master and Sect Master after making arrangements with his family.
  • The Ninth-Tier force assembles: More than a hundred Ninth-Tier combatants gather at the Slaughter Forbidden Land, including a large contingent from Great Yi, fourteen Azure Demons, and fighters from other nations and groups. The younger members carry the playful familiarity of their recent gathering into the assembly, trading knowing looks and silently recalling one another’s embarrassing moments. Their relaxed manner draws attention from other nations, though some observers recognize it as composure rather than recklessness.
  • Entry into the battlefield: The Forbidden Land opens into a black, lightless passage. Following the Yi Emperor, the fighters enter the deities’ battlefield: an isolated, almost completely dark world where time moves about ten times faster than outside. For tens of thousands of years, deities have endured this place to protect their world from the Other Plane.
  • The coming confrontation: The Martial Ancestor Emperor of Great Yi appears and says the forces must wait about six outside-world days while the Plane Gate is opened. The fighters are told to remain on the planet and prepare. The joking stops as the scale of the conflict sinks in; Chen Shu reflects on the sacrifice of the deities, and the chapter closes with the group aware that defeat is not an option.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Shu moves from amused nostalgia to solemn reflection. He accepts his embarrassing past as a source of happiness rather than shame, then confronts the gravity of his new responsibility and the war ahead.
  • The friend group shows close bonds through playful teasing, shared jokes, and reciprocal pranks. Their easy camaraderie briefly unites them even amid preparations for a life-or-death battle.
  • Ning Qing notices Chen Shu’s reflective mood and asks what he is thinking, underscoring her attentiveness to him.
  • The assembled fighters initially observe one another with humor and curiosity, but shift into quiet preparation once they enter the battlefield.

Significant themes

  • Memory and growing up: Embarrassments can become cherished memories when viewed from a distance.
  • Camaraderie amid danger: Humor and friendship offer warmth before a daunting conflict.
  • Sacrifice and responsibility: The deities’ long vigil—and Chen Shu’s appointment as a guarantee for his family—shows the human cost behind the war.
  • The weight of the future: The fighters’ lightheartedness gives way to the realization that their mission is essential and failure is unacceptable.

Ch. 531Ten Thousand Flames, One Lamp

Plot points and events

  • While waiting for the final battle, Chen Shu explores the barren Plane Core with a few companions. Its abandoned homes, palaces, artificial garden, and scripture-covered mountain preserve traces of the Deities who spent ages there. Seeing these small, personal remnants makes him understand that Deities were once ordinary, lonely mortals, and that time in the Plane Core had been motionless except for them.
  • Yan Keling prepares to coordinate Earth’s cultivators with alien Ninth-Tier beings, combining Imperial Sect techniques and exchanged technology. Young Master Xuanzhen prepares a Daoist Dual Spirit-Invoking Art, which lets him draw on two past Ninth-Tier cultivators with complementary abilities while remaining conscious to coordinate them.
  • Xuanzhen invokes Cao Ci, reliving the warrior’s final moments in 5025. Nearing corruption, Cao Ci chooses to burn brightly rather than dissolve into the Dao, recalling the fireworks he once dismissed as fleeting. He agrees to lend Xuanzhen his strength, though he wonders whether the battle means the plane has already failed.
  • Xuanzhen also invokes the Celestial Star True Person, a former wartime cultivator who sought peace after witnessing slaughter. Xuanzhen gains Cao Ci’s formidable martial power and the True Person’s Thousand Mechanisms Art and defensive strength.
  • Master Tongdeng channels the Buddhist secret art Ten Thousand Flames, One Lamp. Across the world, monks ring bells and offer their collective willpower as Golden Light, which gathers in the Deities’ hall and strengthens Tongdeng. The method echoes the Great Yi royal family’s practice of joining dying descendants’ power to their divine ancestor.
  • When the six days end, the Emperor of the Martial Ancestors opens a passage to the neighboring plane. The Yi Emperor leads the gathered fighters into the Withered Plane, and the others follow.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Shu’s sightseeing becomes a moment of emotional insight: the Deities’ preserved recreations and repetitive labors reveal their human vulnerability.
  • Xuanzhen moves from deliberation to decisive action, honoring the histories and motivations of his chosen predecessors. He personally addresses Cao Ci and asks for his aid; the two are briefly connected across time through the invocation.
  • Cao Ci’s view of fleeting beauty changes at the end of his life: he embraces a final, brilliant act, turning the fireworks he once scorned into a model for his sacrifice.
  • The Celestial Star True Person’s quiet longing for peace contrasts with Cao Ci’s martial nature, giving Xuanzhen complementary strengths and temperaments.
  • Tongdeng’s individual power is joined by the devotion of monks across the world. His peaceful acceptance of not meeting the revered monk at Chizhi Temple underscores his commitment to saving people rather than pursuing personal aims.
  • The Yi Emperor again takes the first step into danger, framing the campaign as a shared honor and drawing the assembled fighters after him.

Significant themes

  • Mortality behind divinity: Even Deities were once human, and the traces they left reflect loneliness, memory, and endurance.
  • Sacrifice and collective strength: Xuanzhen borrows from the dead, while Tongdeng’s lamp gathers the will of many into one source of power.
  • The value of brief, brilliant lives: Cao Ci’s fireworks metaphor presents a short life as meaningful if it burns brightly.
  • War and the longing for peace: The True Person’s grief and Tongdeng’s mission to save the world show the human cost of conflict.
  • Cooperation across difference: The impending battle depends on combining distinct people, traditions, and powers—from alien allies to ancient cultivators and worldwide Buddhist communities.

Ch. 532Of Course the Final Battle Deserves a Whole Chapter

Key plot points and events

  • The fighters arrive in a dead, lightless plane, scattered across a planet and attacked by an energy that drains life, Spirit Power, and souls. The gods of both sides begin clashing outside the plane, but their conflict is restrained; the battle’s outcome depends on the combatants.
  • Chen Shu hides while waiting for the communications network. Ning Qing establishes a Spacetime Network that lets her locate and guide their scattered allies through the darkness, helping them regroup and coordinate.
  • The Group Leader reaches the planet and follows the faint guidance from Command. He encounters a Celestial predecessor who has sacrificed herself to illuminate the plane’s laws, underscoring the cost paid by earlier generations.
  • Young Master Xuanzhen, Prince Jin, and a Ninth-Tier Behemoth meet two enemy fighters. The brief, savage fight ends with Prince Jin and both enemies dead. His sacrifice saves Xuanzhen and the Behemoth, who withdraw to find allies.
  • Battles erupt across the planet as both forces assemble. The enemy has somewhat stronger fighters and slightly greater numbers, but the Original Plane’s side benefits from Ning Qing’s coordination, faster reinforcement, and the ability to avoid dangerous engagements.
  • The allied fighters eventually form two groups. Chen Shu faces a massive enemy force and unleashes a catastrophic, star-like Blazing Sun powered by Spacetime Energy. Its light and heat consume the enemy before him and devastate the continent, apparently deciding the battle.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Shu remains disciplined and concealed until the moment to strike, then reveals overwhelming power. His allies recognize him as a near-divine force.
  • Ning Qing proves essential as strategist and coordinator, calmly directing scattered fighters. Seeing the dead predecessor who guided her prompts a wry thought that she has picked up Chen Shu’s way of interpreting events.
  • The Group Leader responds to the sacrifice of the Celestial predecessor with grief and respect, but sets emotion aside to follow the mission.
  • Young Master Xuanzhen is steadied by the powerful souls sharing his body, yet his first direct battle shocks him with the enemy’s strength and the war’s unforgiving nature.
  • Prince Jin gives his life to save Xuanzhen and the Behemoth. The two survivors silently agree to retreat and regroup.
  • The fighters’ encounters with one another are shaped by immediate necessity: allies join forces and follow Ning Qing’s guidance, while clashes with the enemy are fought without hesitation or mercy.

Significant themes

  • Sacrifice across generations: Celestials gave their lives to preserve knowledge and aid the present battle; Prince Jin’s final attack continues that pattern.
  • Coordination versus individual strength: The enemy is stronger one-on-one, but communication and teamwork give the Original Plane’s forces a crucial advantage.
  • Isolation and resolve: The lightless, soul-draining world intensifies fear, yet the fighters persist and trust the faint guidance of their allies.
  • The scale of power: The gods’ distant struggle frames the mortal war, while Chen Shu’s final attack shows how a single overwhelming force can abruptly determine survival and victory.

Ch. 533Chen Banxia's Cooking Appreciation Party

Plot points and events

  • The war ends when both sides recognize that victory is no longer possible. The defeated opponents withdraw rather than destroy the plane and everyone in it; Chen Shu reflects that the conflict was ultimately about survival, not extermination.
  • The victors assess their heavy losses, collect the Plane Origin and the fallen’s heroic souls, and prepare to return. Many veterans and elders died, while most of the younger generation survived.
  • The Group Leader calls for lasting peace and unity against future threats. The group leaves with 67 portions of Origin—enough to protect their plane—and learns that two years have passed outside.
  • Back in Jade Capital, Chen Banxia spends her newly free time sleeping and lounging, feeling bored and missing her brother’s cooking and the company of a close friend.
  • Chen Shu and Ning Qing surprise her at home, pretending to be community workers. Overjoyed, Banxia hugs them both. Chen Shu soon discovers a plate of shredded potatoes she cooked herself and examines it with great interest.

Character developments

  • Chen Shu shows relief and compassion after the war, recognizing the restraint shown by both sides. He also reconnects warmly with his sister and is fascinated by her attempt at cooking.
  • Ning Qing is acknowledged as a careful commander who helped protect the younger generation, though the chapter shows her mainly through her quiet presence beside Chen Shu.
  • Chen Banxia remains independent, carefree, and committed to staying single, but her solitary routine has left her bored and lonely. She is deeply attached to her brother and delighted by his return.
  • Zhang Suannai insists she has recovered quickly from grief, though her irritation and blunt responses reveal how much she cared for those she lost.
  • Unknown Person reveals a gentler side by smiling and asking Chen Shu to teach him chess after the battle.

Character interactions

  • Chen Shu tries to comfort Zhang Suannai, teasing her about her grief; she responds with characteristic profanity and denial.
  • Chen Shu and Unknown Person share a friendly exchange about chess, while Yan Keling tearfully says goodbye to an alien behemoth.
  • Banxia welcomes Chen Shu and Ning Qing with enthusiastic hugs, then tries to hide that she has missed lunch. Chen Shu gently teases her about her habits before focusing on her homemade dish.

Significant themes

  • War and restraint: Once the outcome is settled, both sides stop fighting and allow the others to leave, underscoring that survival matters more than vengeance.
  • Sacrifice and loss: Veteran fighters bear the heaviest toll, while the survivors must reckon with the cost of victory.
  • Home and reunion: After two years away, familiar family bonds and ordinary domestic life offer comfort and joy.
  • Solitude and affection: Banxia prizes her independence yet longs for companionship, especially her brother and a close friend.

Ch. 534The Younger Siblings Who Saved the World

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Shu returns home with Qingqing after more than two years away from Earth. Chen Banxia has cooked shredded potatoes for him, but the dish is badly over-seasoned and overcooked.
  • Xiaoxiao and Peach arrive. Peach excitedly reunites with Qingqing, while Xiaoxiao greets Chen Shu formally and asks whether the group succeeded in saving the world.
  • Banxia realizes Chen Shu misled her about going to the Lanya Forbidden Land only to train. He explains that he kept the real mission secret because she might have tried to stop him.
  • Chen Shu reveals that the mission was dangerous and that major figures died, including Suannai’s master and eldest senior brother, the Spirit Sect’s former sect master, and the emperor. Suannai has returned to the Sword Sect to arrange funerals; a state funeral and further news are expected soon.
  • Shocked by the losses, Banxia asks what the group actually faced. Chen Shu changes the subject, and Xiaoxiao and Peach sample Banxia’s potatoes—both find them inedible.

Character developments

  • Chen Shu is relieved to be home and resumes his teasing, irreverent rapport with Banxia. He admits his secrecy was motivated by concern that she would worry or try to stop him, but he treats the mission’s grim aftermath with striking casualness.
  • Chen Banxia moves from indignation at being excluded to stunned grief and concern when she learns how dangerous the mission was and who died. Her familiar authority as the eldest sister briefly reasserts itself before the news overwhelms her.
  • Xiaoxiao remains composed and tactful, offering Banxia a gentle but blunt verdict on her cooking.
  • Peach shows deep attachment to Qingqing and lingering anxiety, mentioning dreams in which the group died. She trusted that Qingqing would protect them.
  • Qingqing quietly accepts Peach’s affectionate reunion despite finding the attention somewhat tiring.

Significant themes

  • Protective secrecy and family trust: Chen Shu hid the truth to spare Banxia worry, but his decision leaves her feeling disrespected and excluded.
  • Victory shadowed by loss: The mission succeeded in saving the world, yet the cost includes the deaths of revered leaders and loved ones.
  • Ordinary life alongside catastrophe: Domestic teasing and a failed meal provide comic relief, even as the characters confront war’s consequences.
  • Grief and responsibility: Suannai’s absence reflects her duty to return home and care for the dead, while Banxia is asked to prepare their mother for the news.

Character interactions

  • Chen Shu and Banxia bicker affectionately: she accuses him of lying, he parses his wording and jokes about her being difficult, and their tension eases before the deaths are revealed.
  • Peach eagerly clings to Qingqing, then turns to Chen Shu to ask whether the world has been saved.
  • Xiaoxiao checks on Chen Shu’s safety and asks after Suannai, then tries to protect Banxia’s pride while tasting her cooking.
  • Chen Shu tells Banxia to watch over their mother when the deaths become public, drawing her into the family’s responsibilities despite having kept her in the dark.

Ch. 535I Was Overthinking It

Summary

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Shu visits Chen Banxia, Xiaoxiao, and Peach. He quizzes Peach about school and urges her to aim for Yujing University, while Xiaoxiao proudly reveals that she earned a doctorate.
  • The family goes out for skewers. Chen Banxia eagerly shares stories about a male colleague who is pursuing her, and Chen Shu enjoys teasing her and hearing the gossip.
  • Two days later, national news reports the secret war between planes and its devastating losses. The broadcast honors the fallen, including the Yi Emperor and numerous Ninth-Tier cultivators, while omitting the Esoteric Sect’s role and Chen Shu’s decisive contribution at his and Ning Qing’s request.
  • As messages pour in from people checking on him, Chen Shu answers a few himself, then gives Peach his phone and asks her to reply to the rest as a manners exercise.
  • Chen Shu attends the Yi Emperor’s state funeral and the Former Spirit Sect Master’s funeral, where he serves as the Spirit Sect’s Vice Sect Master and receives a huge number of mourners and representatives.
  • Zhang Suannai is set to become the Sword Sect’s next Sword Master after the deaths of its current master and senior disciple. Chen Shu considers checking on her, but she instead messages him to request a detailed recipe for Chicken with Taro for her sect’s cooks.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen is affectionate and teasing with his family, encouraging Peach’s education, praising Xiaoxiao’s achievement, and playfully needling Chen Banxia about her age and love life.
  • Banxia’s usual laziness gives way to enthusiasm when spending time with Chen Shu and the others.
  • Xiaoxiao is pleased by Chen Shu’s praise of her doctorate, while Peach is treated as both a growing child and a student learning good manners.
  • The scale of the funerals and Chen Shu’s duties reveal the weight of his new leadership responsibilities. He also remains considerate of Zhang Suannai, though her practical message undercuts his assumption that she needs comforting.

Significant themes

  • Loss and remembrance: The news broadcast and funerals emphasize the immense human cost of the war and the duty to honor those who died.
  • Peace and sacrifice: The broadcast frames ordinary peace as something secured by people willing to bear the burden of battle.
  • Family and ordinary life amid tragedy: School, food, teasing, and gossip continue alongside public grief and political upheaval.
  • Humor and deflation: Chen Shu’s expectation that Zhang Suannai may be grieving gives way to her straightforward request for a recipe—prompting the chapter’s closing realization: “I was overthinking it.”

Ch. 536Inauguration Ceremony

Key plot points and events

  • Zhang Suannai announces that she is holding a deliberately modest inauguration ceremony to become Sword Master. Her invitation sparks teasing from the group, who doubt that any Sword Sect event can really be “little.”
  • The group congratulates her, but she insists there is nothing to celebrate and asks when others will take leadership roles. Luo Huai’an defers to his senior brother, Righteous Vital Energy points out that his father is still alive, and Green-Lamp Ancient Buddha explains that Buddhist leadership depends on virtue, seniority, learning, and mastery—not strength alone.
  • Chen Shu arranges leave for Peach and takes her, Xiaoxiao, and Chen Banxia to Blackstone Mountain a week later. The group visits the Sword Sect, whose headquarters doubles as a tourist attraction and is now closed to visitors for the ceremony.
  • Zhang Suannai welcomes her friends warmly and gives them an informal aerial tour. They see the mountain’s dramatic landscape, the sword-training platforms, and the sect’s practical, egalitarian living quarters.
  • Suannai leaves to take portraits for the public announcement, asking Seventh Senior Brother to show the guests around. The visitors decide to try the Sword Sect’s famous Braised Chicken.

Character developments

  • Zhang Suannai takes on the role of Sword Master with her usual breezy confidence, though Seventh Senior Brother reveals that she secretly cried after the Old Sword Master and eldest senior brother were buried. Her cheerful manner conceals grief rather than proving she was unaffected by it.
  • Chen Shu reflects that the group’s grief must coexist with the need for the living to move forward. His admiration for the Sword Sect’s equal treatment of disciples fades when he learns its members are intensely devoted to training—and that living near the dining hall means smelling Braised Chicken at mealtimes.
  • Xiaoxiao quietly shows that she had been worried about Suannai, asking about her soon after returning home. Peach confirms that Xiaoxiao missed Suannai even more than she did.
  • Chen Banxia is concerned that Suannai may be grieving and wants to comfort her, but learns that Suannai hides her sadness behind her energy.

Significant themes

  • Grief and resilience: The characters acknowledge loss while recognizing that the living must continue with their lives.
  • Leadership and merit: The exchange contrasts the Sword Sect’s strength-based hierarchy with the Buddhist Order’s emphasis on virtue, learning, seniority, and religious mastery.
  • Community and affection: The friends’ reunion, teasing, and concern for one another reveal a close-knit group beneath their irreverent banter.
  • Equality and practicality: The Sword Sect gives disciples similar homes and rejects elaborate status-based comforts, while remaining fiercely focused on swordsmanship.

Character interactions

  • The group teases Suannai about her “little” ceremony and about her new authority, while she jokingly asserts that they should salute her.
  • Suannai reunites emotionally with Chen Banxia, Peach, and Xiaoxiao; Chen Shu tells her how worried Xiaoxiao had been.
  • Seventh Senior Brother helps explain the sect’s customs and its rules for visitors, then arranges a special meal for the guests.
  • The chapter closes on the group’s familiar, playful banter as they head off to eat together.

Ch. 537Five New Fires for the New Sword Master

Plot and key events

  • Zhang Suannai’s Sword Master inauguration is marked by a banquet in the Sword Sect’s grand dining hall. Chen Shu’s group samples the sect’s excellent Chicken with Taro hotpot while watching Zhang greet guests and disciples.
  • Zhang enthusiastically promotes the dish, arguing that its many variations make it impossible to tire of—just as a true swordsman should remain devoted to the sword.
  • In her speech, she announces five reforms:
    1. Replace the ban on White-Cut Chicken with a ban on Braised Chicken, and serve Chicken with Taro in varied styles.
    2. Allow fighting in the sect’s jail cells.
    3. Improve internet and Wi-Fi access across the sect.
    4. Forbid disciples from swearing oaths in the Sword Master’s name.
    5. Forbid them from using her voice as a phone ringtone.
  • The first three reforms receive loud support; the last two are met with conspicuous silence. The reforms pass, and Chen Shu’s companions jokingly conclude that the rules probably do not apply to them.
  • That night, Chen Shu’s group gathers on Blackstone Mountain beneath the Sword God’s statue. They trade casual remarks about the cold, wind, quiet, and stars while Sword Sect disciples continue training nearby.

Character developments and interactions

  • Zhang Suannai establishes a lively, unconventional leadership style. She mixes food advocacy and humor with practical reforms, while confidently taking charge of the ancient sect.
  • Chen Shu watches her with amusement, jokes privately about her speech, and is baffled by the disciples’ enthusiasm for fighting in jail cells. He also teases Qingqing, who mostly ignores him; Chen Banxia responds warmly to his jokes.
  • The Sword Sect disciples show how much they value food, fighting, and connectivity, while their silence over the personal restrictions suggests they are less pleased by those changes.
  • Chen Shu’s companions share easy banter at the banquet and on the mountain, ending the chapter in a relaxed, communal mood.

Significant themes

  • Tradition versus modernization: Zhang takes charge of a centuries-old sect but introduces Wi-Fi alongside changes to its odd old rules.
  • Leadership through personality: Her humor and confidence help make her reforms popular.
  • Devotion and discipline: Zhang links persistence in enjoying Chicken with Taro to the unwavering focus demanded by swordsmanship.
  • Community and everyday life: Grand ceremonies and martial training are punctuated by food, teasing, and ordinary conversation.

Ch. 538The Future Had Yet to Come

Plot and key events

  • Chen Shu briefs the group on the withering power: it has consumed the Withered Plane and will eventually attack nearby planes, though its timing is uncertain. It weakens after exhausting a world’s life, so the group must defend their Plane Barrier until the danger passes.
  • The group has sixty-seven Origins, enough—along with the existing supply—for sixty-nine Deities. Chen Shu and Ning Qing do not need Origins, and sixty Deities should be sufficient to guard the plane.
  • The older Deities will return to Earth now that the standoff with the Other Plane has ended. The Tribulation Buddha will remain in the Hall to monitor the threat, with others taking turns keeping him company. If danger persists, the new Deities will eventually replace the aging generation.
  • Chen Shu explains that he and the New Sage are developing improved remote-presence technology, combining it with artificial bodies so Deities on duty in the Hall can take breaks on Earth. He jokes about remodeling the barren Hall.
  • The group’s discussion ends when Yan Keling is called away and Sword Master Zhang leaves in embarrassment. Chen Shu reflects on the night sky at Blackstone Mountain and the Sword Sect’s cramped lodgings.
  • The next morning, Chen Shu sits in the sun and plays Go with Unknown Person, surrounded by friends. Their shared familiarity briefly stirs strong feelings, but both conceal them behind smiles. Chen Shu recognizes that Unknown Person is the more experienced player and silently resolves to find a way to win.

Character development and interactions

  • Chen Shu acts as messenger and organizer, laying out a practical plan while trying to make the looming burden feel manageable. His humor and confidence mask his awareness of the Deities’ sacrifice and of his complicated feelings toward Unknown Person.
  • The group responds with a mix of solemn acceptance and playful teasing, especially over the prospect of duty rotations and time off. Their banter conveys trust and solidarity.
  • The Tribulation Buddha is acknowledged as facing a long, lonely vigil; the group readily agrees to share that burden.
  • Unknown Person and Chen Shu share a quiet, emotionally charged moment over Go. Their smiles conceal mutual, difficult-to-express feelings, while the game becomes a small contest between them.

Significant themes

  • Duty across generations: The Origins enable new Deities to defend the world, while older guardians prepare to pass on their power.
  • Hope through ingenuity and cooperation: Technology and collective planning may make an otherwise harsh, isolating responsibility more bearable.
  • Uncertainty and preparedness: The withering power’s timing is unknown, so the group must act without reliable predictions.
  • Hidden emotion and connection: Chen Shu and Unknown Person’s restrained reaction suggests that familiar gestures can carry unspoken feelings.

Ch. 539The Last Chance to Catch Up with Her Sister

Key plot points and events

  • Sword Master Zhang joins Chen Shu and the others playing Go. Chen Shu teases her about her patience, then teaches her and the unnamed player the rules. Spectators who criticize the game are struck by Zhang’s sword.
  • The guests enjoy several versions of taro chicken, which Zhang plans to make a signature Sword Sect dish. Young Master Xuanzhen leaves to prepare for a visit from the Eagle Clan, including Senior Sister Jin.
  • Chen Shu brings his companions to Bai City rather than returning directly to Jade Capital. Back home, he uses Peach’s affection to ease Lawyer Wei’s anger over the dangerous war, while the news reveals Zhang Suannai has become Sword Master.
  • Lawyer Wei asks about Chen Shu’s future. Chen Shu says he may eventually lead the Spirit Sect and might teach. Later, Chen Banxia asks whether ordinary people can become gods as successors to the plane’s deities. Chen Shu says it is likely.

Character development and interactions

  • Zhang Suannai embraces her new authority and enjoys showing her friends around, while remaining playful and competitive.
  • Chen Shu manages Lawyer Wei’s anger with humor and careful timing, relying on Peach to soften him. He also takes seriously the need to find successors for aging deities.
  • Lawyer Wei is still prickly about Chen Shu’s choices, but his concern and pride show through; Peach quickly wins him over.
  • Chen Banxia is curious about the possibility of becoming a god. When Chen Shu confirms it may be possible, she eagerly volunteers—seeing it as her last chance to catch up with her sister. Peach raises her hand too, joining in enthusiastically.

Significant themes

  • Family care and reconciliation: Chen Shu’s teasing and Peach’s affection help bridge tension with Lawyer Wei.
  • Responsibility and succession: The world’s future may depend on finding new people to inherit divine roles.
  • Ambition and belonging: Chen Banxia’s eagerness reflects her desire to stand alongside her sister, while Peach playfully follows her lead.
  • Everyday life amid extraordinary events: Food, games, and family conversations continue alongside major changes in power and the world’s fate.

Ch. 540Gods Among Mortals

Plot points and events

  • Earth enjoys an unusual period of peace after the crises, with countries cooperating on relief and charity.
  • In autumn, Chen Shu and Ning Qing return to Bai City. As they share mooncakes beneath the moon, the Forbidden Lands reopen and the deities return. Chen Shu senses the arrivals and recognizes many of them.
  • The returning gods resume their own lives: the Founding Emperor wanders Jade Capital, the Martial Ancestor visits the graves of old friends, the Bright Sect Emperor observes the new era, and the Sword God dissolves into the Dao. Another forgotten deity travels to northwestern Duqin and quietly watches a girl praying to his statue.
  • Chen Shu’s group chat turns to the next step: entering the Forbidden Lands to complete their transformation into gods. Most choose the Slaughter Forbidden Land; Jiang Lai selects other sites, while Chen Shu plans to enter the Spirit Arts Forbidden Land.
  • Ning Qing initially names the Slaughter Forbidden Land, partly to tease Chen Shu, but then decides the Reincarnation Forbidden Land will suit her. Chen Shu and Qingqing tell Xiaoxiao and Peach they will be away briefly. Xiaoxiao hopes to earn a Mark and become stronger than her sister; Peach wants to help Qingqing beat Xiaoxiao.
  • A few days later, Chen Shu enters the Spirit Arts Forbidden Land. Its intense pressure, spells, and rune-based trials would endanger most entrants, but his unusually powerful Spirit Sea and Divine Power make the pressure negligible. He perceives the Forbidden Land as a vast structure of light, Runes, and underlying rules.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Shu is calm and perceptive, recognizing the gods’ return and understanding the risks and demands of different Forbidden Lands. He is also playful and affectionate with Qingqing, Xiaoxiao, and Peach.
  • Ning Qing shows confidence in her ability to pass several mind-testing Forbidden Lands. Her teasing of Chen Shu gives way to a serious choice of the Reincarnation Forbidden Land.
  • The returning deities reveal varied responses to a changed world: remembrance, grief, loneliness, curiosity, or detachment.
  • Xiaoxiao and Peach eagerly look toward becoming stronger, but their rivalry—and Peach’s loyalty to Qingqing—remains comic and affectionate.
  • The group’s chat reflects camaraderie and friendly competition, as powerful cultivators coordinate their trials with casual humor.

Significant themes

  • Peace after catastrophe: former conflict gives way, at least temporarily, to cooperation and humanitarian aid.
  • Time, memory, and loss: the gods return to a world that has changed; some find only graves, while others have been forgotten entirely.
  • The burden of godhood: becoming a god requires not just power but endurance, resolve, and mastery of oneself.
  • Different paths to strength: each Forbidden Land tests distinct abilities or aspects of character, making the choice of trial important.
  • The ordinary amid the extraordinary: gods and future gods discuss monumental transformations through everyday routines, family teasing, and a group chat.
