Meng Chuan left Shrouding the Heavens without a sound, and the Emperors watched him disappear.
For some reason, the Emperors sensed in him the chill of the wind over the Yi River, the feeling of a brave man setting out, never to return.

"Come back," Ji Lianxing murmured, watching Meng Chuan vanish.
Meng Chuan had always been good to her. They had known each other before he became an emperor, and she had been one of the very few people who knew how fast he cultivated back then.
At the time, Meng Chuan had found her blunt, straightforward nature fascinating. Once they grew close, he looked after her.
Ji Lianxing thought his flighty manner was nothing like a great expert's, but the care she felt from him was like an elder brother looking after his younger sister.

An arm reached around her shoulders and gave them a gentle pat.

It was Jiang Daoran. He and Ji Lianxing were among the few friends Meng Chuan had made before becoming an emperor.
In fact, back when they were young, Jiang Daoran had been the show-off. Meng Chuan had called him that behind his back—and to his face—more than once.
